Chapter Thirty-Six: Emissary of Death Deng Feng
The black sedan sped along, and when Jiang Dashi finally stepped on the brakes, the dilapidated car pulled up outside a residential community.
Wanhao Manor was the most luxurious residential community in all of Lecheng, bar none. Its residents were either wealthy or influential.
Jiang Dashi's shabby car, parked outside such a high-end community, was an absolute eyesore, drawing 100% of the attention. However, the gazes cast by the pedestrians entering and exiting the community weren't ones of envy or admiration, but rather disdain.
The reason was simple: the old car truly stuck out like a sore thumb among the surrounding vehicles and was completely out of place with the upscale community. The disparity was simply too vast.
Under the disdainful or scornful gazes of the passersby, Yang Haoran and Jiang Dashi stepped out of the sedan one after the other.
No one paid any attention to Yang Haoran, an ordinary young man, but Jiang Dashi's appearance certainly drew numerous glances.
Jiang Dashi was dressed in his black robe, and at some point, he had pulled his large hood over his head, making him appear utterly mysterious. Some passersby recognized his attire, knowing he was a temple keeper from the Death God Temple, and their scornful or disdainful gazes softened slightly. Some even bowed respectfully from a distance, their eyes filled with reverence—these were clearly believers of the Death God.
However, many others paid no mind to his attire; they remained just as disdainful and scornful as before. Some of these individuals were not believers of the Death God, while others simply didn't believe in any deity at all.
In the eyes of the former, Jiang Dashi was a heretic; in the eyes of the latter, he was a charlatan feigning supernatural abilities.
Yang Haoran simply followed behind Jiang Dashi, and the two soon arrived at the community entrance. However, without an access card, they couldn't enter.
Such high-end communities placed great importance on resident safety, and security at the entrance was naturally very strict. Since neither of them had an access card for this community, they shouldn't have been able to get in. But there's an exception to every rule; the security guard at the gate seemed to recognize Jiang Dashi and treated him with extreme respect, thus allowing the two to smoothly enter the community.
"Jiang Dashi, you're truly impressive. This community is famously strict, yet you managed to get in so easily," Yang Haoran said, a faint smile on his face, as he followed behind Jiang Dashi.
After the incident at the Ghost Building last night, Yang Haoran had been quite frightened, but now that he was away from the Ghost Building, his mental state was slowly recovering. If he were still inside the Ghost Building, he wouldn't be able to crack a single smile.
"Although I'm not a resident here, I come here often, so they all recognize me. Furthermore, that security guard just now is also a believer in my god, so he holds some respect for me. Otherwise, it wouldn't be so simple for you and me to enter this community," Jiang Dashi explained as they walked.
"Jiang Dashi, you're too humble. By the way, Jiang Dashi, who are you taking me to see? " Yang Haoran leaned closer to Jiang Dashi and whispered.
"You'll know in a moment," Jiang Dashi replied.
Seeing that Jiang Dashi offered no explanation, Yang Haoran, though curious, didn't press the matter. The other party had already made it clear, and if he continued to ask, he wouldn't get the answer he wanted and might even cause impatience, which would go against his usual principles of conduct.
However, at this moment, Yang Haoran felt an unusual surge of excitement and anticipation. This intense excitement and anticipation even made him forget the terrifying experiences from the Ghost Building last night.
Jiang Dashi had said outside the Ghost Building earlier that his efforts would soon be rewarded, and then he had rushed to meet someone. Yang Haoran wasn't foolish; he naturally knew that the important figure they were about to meet was the one who could grant him true abilities!
Lost in his thoughts, Yang Haoran followed Jiang Dashi and stopped in front of a villa. The villa gate was already open, as if the owner of the villa had known someone would be coming.
However, Jiang Dashi was very mindful of etiquette. He didn't enter the villa just because the gate was open; instead, he stood respectfully outside the iron gate.
Since Jiang Dashi didn't enter the villa, Yang Haoran certainly wasn't foolish enough to walk in first. He lowered his head, standing just as respectfully.
"Come in. Didn't you see the door was open?"
A lazy voice reached both Yang Haoran and Jiang Dashi's ears simultaneously.
The voice gave Yang Haoran a sense of déjà vu, as if he had heard it somewhere before. Then, a flash of realization struck him, and his expression subtly changed as he remembered the owner of the voice.
Yang Haoran was secretly startled, but he quickly concealed the surprise on his face, returning to his respectful demeanor.
Jiang Dashi responded respectfully, then led Yang Haoran into the courtyard.
In the villa's courtyard, a man lay stretched out on a chair, basking in the sun. Behind him, a maid massaged his shoulders, and in front, another maid massaged his thighs. He wore an expression of pure bliss, as if he were starring in a film. If some familiar background music were to play now, it would be even more fitting.
The two maids had curvaceous figures and were dressed provocatively, revealing large expanses of pale skin. Their tender, smooth skin shimmered with a captivating luster under the sunlight. Both in terms of physique and looks, these two women were exceptionally rare beauties.
However, the two women gave Yang Haoran a strange feeling. First, it was the middle of winter, yet they were dressed so lightly without showing any signs of being cold. Second, the two women simply felt odd, though he couldn't quite pinpoint why at the moment. In short, the feeling was very peculiar.
Yang Haoran's gaze merely swept over the two women, not lingering, as such behavior would be impolite. Besides, his main purpose for coming here wasn't for these two peculiar women, no matter how beautiful they were.
His eyes fell upon the person on the chair. After clearly seeing the man's face, he thought to himself, "It really is him!"
The person lying on the chair, enjoying the massage service from the beauties, was none other than the young man with a sharp chin and hollowed cheeks.
On the way here, Yang Haoran had already wondered who this important figure would be. Combining it with the information Jiang Dashi had revealed to him, Yang Haoran guessed that this important figure was very likely the young man he had met before.
Of course, this was just his own guess at the time. As for whether it was truly the young man, Yang Haoran couldn't be certain, and Jiang Dashi hadn't given him a definitive answer. Now, with the young man appearing before him, it proved his earlier guess was correct.
"Greetings, Emissary of Death," Jiang Dashi respectfully bowed, bending his body so low that he was almost at a ninety-degree angle.
Seeing this, Yang Haoran mimicked Jiang Dashi, lowering his body and bowing to the young man.
"Greetings, Emissary of Death!"
The young man responded weakly, but said nothing else. Seeing this, Jiang Dashi remained in his bowing posture, perfectly still. Yang Haoran, seeing Jiang Dashi act this way, naturally wouldn't be foolish enough to straighten up first.
But Yang Haoran had no idea that he and Jiang Dashi would remain bent at the waist for a full hour.
During that hour, the young man basked in the sun, enjoying massages from the beautiful women and eating fruit, completely ignoring the two bowed figures in front of him, not speaking a single word to them.
Since the young man hadn't spoken, neither Yang Haoran nor Jiang Dashi dared to straighten up.
Yang Haoran cursed inwardly. He hadn't expected this young man to put on such airs. He had always thought that masters should be quite dignified, like Jiang Dashi, but this young man completely overturned his perception.
Yang Haoran was naturally furious about the young man's behavior, but he had meticulously planned for so long, all for the sake of acquiring special abilities. With success just one step away, he certainly wouldn't do anything foolish to let all his efforts go down the drain.
At this moment, he had already made up his mind. Forget an hour; even if it were ten hours, he would maintain this posture until he fainted.
It was precisely this young man's attitude that left an extremely negative impression in Yang Haoran's heart. If he hadn't needed something from him, if he hadn't been unable to defeat him, Yang Haoran truly wanted to stand up and slap that ugly face of his!
"Alright, you two can straighten up. If I didn't want to stop sunbathing, I'd really make you two hold that pose for a few more hours."
The young man's lazy voice reached Yang Haoran's ears. Yang Haoran's heart was burning with rage, but he didn't show it, nor did he lose his composure. He didn't straighten up immediately; instead, he glanced at Jiang Dashi out of the corner of his eye.
Only when he saw Jiang Dashi straighten up did Yang Haoran stand upright. Beads of sweat rolled down his face one by one, and his body trembled slightly. Maintaining that posture for such a long time had been incredibly taxing on his stamina. If he hadn't paid attention to physical exercise normally, he wouldn't have been able to last a full hour at all.
However, even though he had endured the hour, he was still somewhat overwhelmed, as evidenced by his slightly trembling body.
"You, come here. " The young man pointed at the profusely sweating Yang Haoran and beckoned with a finger.
Yang Haoran didn't understand why, but he didn't hesitate in the slightest. Suppressing his inner tension, he quickly walked over to the young man's side, standing ramrod straight with a respectful demeanor.
"Though you're lacking in guts, I really like your attitude," the young man said indifferently, first disparaging him, then praising him.
"From this moment on, you belong to me. If someone in Lecheng is blind enough to cause you trouble, just tell them you're with me, and my name is Deng Feng. If someone asks what organization you're from, just tell them we're from the Underworld Office."
The young man's lips curled into a slight smile, his face full of arrogance, as if he alone ran Lecheng. This kind of arrogance was quite similar to Yang Haoran's drunken fit in the Ghost Building last night, except this young man truly had the ability, while Yang Haoran was quite the opposite.
Yang Haoran's body trembled, shaken by the young man's words. He wasn't surprised that the young man would protect him in the future; he was shocked by the young man's last sentence: "we're from the Underworld Office!"
