Chapter 334: Demon Hunter

The enormous body of the snake demon Bai Xue was sent flying by the scruffy man, slamming against the stone wall of the ancient tomb.

A painful hiss erupted from Bai Xue's mouth, and her massive snake body slid limply down the stone wall.

Her snake body crashed to the ground, crushing some stones. She weakly thrashed, wanting to raise her head, but no longer had the strength.

After several struggles, her snake head barely lifted before slamming back to the ground, blood pooling around her.

At this moment, the snake demon Bai Xue had not only lost the ability to continue fighting, but also her capacity for movement entirely.

The scruffy man lightly shook the longsword in his hand, and the blood on the blade visibly reabsorbed into the sword itself.

"I will only take your life; I will not harm your soul. I hope that in your next life, you can be reborn as a human and no longer be a man-eating demon. As for this life, it ends here."

There was no smile on the scruffy man's face, no victor's arrogance, nor any deep-seated hatred. His expression was utterly indifferent.

As the scruffy man spoke indifferently, he raised the longsword in his hand, seemingly preparing to finally end the snake demon Bai Xue.

However, at that very moment, the space beside the snake demon Bai Xue suddenly rippled violently, then split open, forming a crack.

This scene not only drew the attention of the scruffy man but also captivated the gaze of the snake demon Bai Xue.

A figure slowly emerged from the spatial rift. This person looked ordinary, with short hair, stubble, a cigarette dangling from his mouth, hands in his pockets, and a friendly smile on his face.

His small suit was ragged and stained with blood, clearly indicating he had just experienced a fierce battle. Yet, he appeared full of vigor, not at all dispirited by the recent fight.

This person was, of course, Yang Haoran, who had originally departed but had ventured back here due to a Snake Scale.

Yang Haoran's appearance rekindled hope in the despairing snake demon Bai Xue.

She had fled here, pinning her last hopes on Yang Haoran. Yet, after surviving countless perils to reach this place, her hope had turned into disappointment, which then morphed into despair, for she had watched Yang Haoran leave with her own eyes.

And now, she was utterly powerless to resist. Knowing her death was inevitable today, her inner despair had reached its peak; she had even lost the will to survive.

But Yang Haoran's sudden appearance allowed her to once again see a glimmer of hope in her despair, igniting the extinguished will to live within her heart.

Repeatedly subjected to such emotional jolts, the snake demon's composure instantly shattered.

In that moment, she seemed to have lost the strength to speak, or perhaps forgotten how. She simply stared at Yang Haoran, parting her lips without uttering a single word or sound, then silently shed two streams of tears.

Seeing the snake demon Bai Xue's wretched state and sensing her faint aura, the smile on Yang Haoran's face faltered, becoming unnatural, somewhat strained.

He took a deep drag from his cigarette, seemingly calming his inner turmoil, then removed it with his hand. As the smoke slowly exhaled from his mouth, his smile gradually returned to its natural state.

"How did you end up like this? " Yang Haoran asked, smiling as he looked at the snake demon.

The snake demon, with tears in her eyes, nevertheless showed joy. She didn't speak, but merely swayed her snake body gently, as if in response to Yang Haoran.

Yang Haoran asked nothing further, nor did he make any promises to the snake demon Bai Xue. He simply withdrew his gaze from her and turned to face the scruffy man opposite him.

From the moment Yang Haoran appeared, the scruffy man's gaze had been fixed on him, no longer concerned with the snake demon's fate or attempting to kill her.

Originally indifferent, his brow now subtly furrowed, and his expression shifted, becoming much more serious with Yang Haoran's arrival.

He didn't launch a sneak attack while Yang Haoran was looking at the snake demon, whether it was because he wasn't confident in succeeding or simply disdained such tactics. He merely watched Yang Haoran quietly.

When Yang Haoran's gaze met his, he spoke with an indifferent expression: "I've seen you in videos. I thought you were just some poor devil bewitched by a snake demon. I never expected you to be an Underworld Official. You must be Lecheng's newly appointed Emissary of Death, right?"

The scruffy man didn't recognize Yang Haoran, but he was familiar with Underworld Officials. Judging by the power fluctuations emanating from Yang Haoran's body and the dense protective Yin Qi surrounding him, an ordinary Night Watcher simply couldn't reach such a level, nor was it likely they could possess the ability to tear space. That's why he surmised Yang Haoran was Lecheng's recently appointed Emissary of Death.

Yang Haoran smiled as he scrutinized the scruffy man, who appeared to be in his late thirties. He didn't speak immediately, instead directly activating his Ghost Eye.

Once the Ghost Eye was activated, his first glance fell upon the scruffy man's glabella.

At the scruffy man's glabella, there were five tiny, sand-like dots, forming a five-pointed star pattern. If these five dots were magnified, one would find that each was, in fact, a five-pointed star itself.

These five dots were invisible to the naked eye unless the scruffy man willingly revealed them, or if one possessed special means, such as Yang Haoran's Ghost Eye pupil technique, to perceive them.

Of the five dots on the scruffy man's glabella, three were dim and lifeless, but two were illuminated, constantly emitting a soft glow.

Yang Haoran's gaze shifted from the scruffy man's glabella. He deactivated his Ghost Eye, then looked at the longsword in the scruffy man's hand.

From its appearance, this longsword seemed quite ordinary, nothing special about it. However, what Yang Haoran was currently focused on wasn't the sword's form, but its blade.

The sword's blade was gleaming, radiating a cold light, clearly indicating its extreme sharpness. Yet, on this bright blade, two mysterious patterns were etched.

The patterns were crooked and winding, somewhat resembling demon script, but they were not demon script.

The presence of these two patterns not only failed to detract from the sword's beauty but instead imbued it with an indescribable sense of mystery.

Yang Haoran's gaze shifted from the longsword, finally settling on the scruffy man's body.

From the scruffy man's body, a visible green light was currently emanating, a light indistinguishable in color from Demon Power.

However, while there was no difference in color, fundamentally, they were two distinct types of power.

Demon Power appears green and emits Demon Qi. Yet, the power outwardly displayed by the scruffy man was also green, but not a trace of Demon Qi could be sensed.

This alone indicated that the power within the scruffy man was not Demon Power.

Through this information, Yang Haoran not only confirmed the scruffy man's identity but also gained some understanding of his strength.

All this takes a long time to explain, but from the moment Yang Haoran glanced at the scruffy man's glabella to observing the green power emanating from him, it was merely the blink of an eye.

Faced with the scruffy man's inquiry, Yang Haoran smiled and nodded, not only not denying it but admitting it quite frankly.

Because it couldn't be denied; whether he was Lecheng's newly appointed Emissary of Death could be easily verified by asking around. Denial would be meaningless.

After nodding, Yang Haoran took a drag from his cigarette and spoke as well.

"The Star Seal on your glabella, the Demon Weapon in your hand, the Star Spirit Power emanating from you—you're a Demon Hunter, aren't you?"

Having his identity recognized, the scruffy man showed no surprise. After all, given Yang Haoran's status as an Emissary of Death, it wasn't strange for him to discern that he was a Demon Hunter.

Thus, like Yang Haoran, he nodded frankly, not denying his identity as a Demon Hunter.

"Since you know I'm a Demon Hunter, you should know how we Demon Hunters make our living. I've been staking out this snake demon for an entire day, and the battle is about to conclude. I don't want any complications, so I ask you to step aside. " the scruffy man said with an indifferent expression.

Hearing this, Yang Haoran smiled and shook his head, saying, "I'm truly sorry, but I cannot yield this step."

The scruffy man's expression darkened, his brows furrowing even deeper than before.

Yang Haoran's presence here made his intentions quite obvious. However, the scruffy man hadn't jumped to conclusions, which was why he had spoken as he did.

But Yang Haoran's current reply confirmed that his suspicion was correct, which caused his expression to change.

"Since you cannot yield, then I shall have to offend you. It just so happens, I also want to see what Lecheng's newly appointed Emissary of Death is truly capable of!"
