Chapter 294: The Snake God (Part 2)
"The villagers' act of going up the mountain to exterminate the demon thoroughly enraged the Snake God. In a fit of anger, the Snake God immediately swallowed several villagers who had rushed to the forefront."
"The Snake God's bloody actions further solidified the villagers' belief that everything the two Talisman Masters said was true. Monsters were inherently cruel, capable of devouring people at a moment's notice. This instantly made them feel that converting their faith to the Talisman Ancestor was the right path, and how foolish and laughable it had been to worship a snake demon in the first place."
"The faith in their hearts, coupled with their firsthand witnessing of the snake demon's brutality, filled the villagers with hatred for the snake demon. The Snake God, once their sole object of worship, had now become a target they absolutely had to eliminate."
At this point, the snake demon paused, her gaze shifting to Yang Haoran. The coldness in her eyes vanished, and she managed to force out a faint smile before speaking, "Got any water? My throat's practically smoking."
"I'll get you some," Yang Haoran replied, then got out of the car and retrieved two bottles of mineral water from the trunk. After getting back in, he handed one bottle to the snake demon and opened one for himself.
Yang Haoran wasn't driving at this moment; he had already parked the car in a spot beneath the shopping mall. They had reached their destination, but since the snake demon hadn't finished her story, he hadn't interrupted her.
After taking a sip of water, the snake demon smiled and looked at Yang Haoran, asking, "Do you want to keep listening?"
Yang Haoran likewise took a sip of water, then replied with a smile, "Of course. No matter the story, tragedy or comedy, I like to listen carefully from beginning to end, to absorb the lessons within."
"Underworld Official, you're truly eager to learn. However, you can listen, but I have a condition," the snake demon said with a seductive smile.
"Can you? " the snake demon countered with a smile.
"Of course not. Because our transaction isn't over yet," Yang Haoran's reply was blunt.
"How stingy. Fine, I'll change my condition then. I don't have any money on me, so you'll have to pay for my clothes."
The snake demon hadn't actually harbored any extravagant hopes that Yang Haoran would release her, for she knew perfectly well it was entirely unrealistic. Thus, Yang Haoran's refusal came as no surprise, nor did it cause her any disappointment. She smoothly changed her demand to something that wasn't truly a 'condition' at all.
"Feel free to buy whatever you want; I'll pay for everything, no matter how much. You can rest assured about that," Yang Haoran promised with a smile.
"You can't go back on your word."
With that, the snake demon took another sip of water before continuing, picking up where she had left off.
"Both the villagers and the two Talisman Masters wished to eliminate the Snake God, and the enraged Snake God likewise desired to eliminate them. Thus, a bloody slaughter unfolded."
"The two Talisman Masters were very confident in their own strength, believing they could easily overpower the Snake God. Therefore, not only did they not stop the villagers from ascending the mountain, but they even led the villagers themselves up the mountain to Crusade against the monster. They wanted to show all the villagers how formidable the power of a Talisman Master was, and at the same time, establish a towering image in the villagers' minds."
"However, the two Talisman Masters underestimated the Snake God's power. In that great battle, more than half of the villagers were devoured by the Snake God, and a small portion of the remaining villagers were so terrified by the bloody scene that they fled in disarray."
"As for the two Talisman Masters of the Talisman Order, the Yellow Talisman Master died at the Snake God's hands with a single blow. Although the Black Talisman Master didn't die, she suffered severe injuries and likewise fled in disarray."
"The Snake God emerged victorious from this bloody slaughter, but she felt no joy whatsoever. Her statue had been destroyed, her temple razed to the ground in the battle, and her last remaining believer, the old farmer, had also lost his life in that great war. Thus, she felt not the slightest bit of happiness; instead, her heart felt utterly empty."
"The Snake God did not devour the old farmer's corpse, because he had remained her devout believer until his death. Therefore, not only did the Snake God not consume his body, but she instead used demonic arts to repair the old farmer's corpse and summoned a small snake to enter his body, bringing the old farmer back to life."
"However, the old farmer was, after all, already dead. Having come back to life, he was nothing more than a puppet. Yet, the Snake God did not treat him differently because of this; she still regarded him as her sole believer."
"Next, the Snake God unleashed her revenge. Under her command, the old farmer returned to the village. Following her orders, he was to slaughter everyone in the village."
"The reason this task was given to the old farmer was that the Snake God had also been severely wounded in her battle with the Black Talisman Master, and she urgently needed to find a place to heal. Furthermore, she wished for the old farmer to personally exact his revenge, even though he was already dead."
"When the old farmer returned to the village, all the surviving villagers had already fled. Although the Snake God had not descended the mountain, she was able to discern all of this through the demonic arts on the old farmer's person. Thus, the Snake God commanded the old farmer to pursue and kill the fleeing villagers."
"As for the Snake God, she constructed a simple wooden hut on the mountain, where she intended to temporarily recover from her injuries. Once the old farmer returned, she would immediately change her healing location, as she felt it wasn't safe. She worried the Black Talisman Master might bring in other help to deal with her, and so she did not plan to stay there long."
"Under the influence of demonic arts, a simple wooden hut was completed in moments; from gathering materials to construction, it was merely a wave of the Snake God's hand. After the hut was successfully built, the Snake God's original intention was to heal first, but she was truly too enraged. So, she devoured the corpse of the Yellow Talisman Master, leaving only the head, then cast a spell to stew the head in a pot. However, something she never expected occurred."
"As it turned out, the severely wounded Black Talisman Master had not fled. Instead, she had sealed her aura and power fluctuations, hiding in the shadows, constantly searching for the best opportunity to act. When the Snake God began casting the spell to stew the head, the Black Talisman Master seized the chance, unleashing most of the Talisman Spirit Power within her body to forcefully carve several Demon Sealing Talismans onto the wooden door."
"The situation was urgent at the time, and the Snake God naturally did not want to see herself sealed within the wooden hut. She resisted with all her might, but the Black Talisman Master had long since prepared in the shadows, and the Snake God's resistance had no effect."
"However, before the several Demon Sealing Talismans were fully carved, the Snake God planted a demonic curse upon the Black Talisman Master, using a portion of the Yellow Talisman Master's hair as an incantation guide, forcefully injecting it into the Black Talisman Master's body, causing the power of the demonic curse to completely erupt—"
"The Black Talisman Master went mad due to the demonic curse, while the Snake God was trapped within the wooden hut by several Demon Sealing Talismans, unable to leave."
"Trapped within the wooden hut, the Snake God could no longer spare a thought for the old farmer chasing the fleeing villagers. She immediately ordered the old farmer to return. However, the old farmer's return changed nothing. His strength was too weak; not only could he not help her break through the Demon Sealing Talismans, he couldn't even slay the heavily wounded Black Talisman Master, for the Black Talisman Master had retained a small portion of Talisman Spirit Power within her body until the very end, and this small portion of Talisman Spirit Power became her life-saving charm."
"Due to the overwhelming obsession in her heart, the mad Black Talisman Master did not leave the village. Instead, she hid inside an uninhabited farmhouse. As for the Snake God, unable to vent the fury in her heart, she commanded the old farmer to destroy almost all the houses in the nearby villages, leaving only a few dilapidated structures as a memorial – a monument to her past as the guardian deity of this place."
"From then on, one of the villages down the mountain gained a madwoman and an old farmer who monitored her. And on the mountain, there was now a sealed snake demon."
"Seven days after the great battle ended, the souls of the deceased villagers coalesced on the mountaintop. Although their bodies had been devoured by the Snake God, the Snake God could only absorb the Human Spirit within their flesh and blood, but not their souls. Thus, after their bodies were digested by the Snake God, their respective souls floated above the wooden hut, gradually congealing. By the seventh day, they had successively taken form, their souls transforming into Wánglíng.
"However, among these Wánglíng, the old farmer was absent. This was because the old farmer had died at the hands of the Black Talisman Master, and his soul had even been scattered. Therefore, after his death, he did not even possess the qualification for his soul to coalesce into a spirit."
"The Snake God was not surprised by this. She had long anticipated such an outcome, and at the same time, she had prepared in advance. She had no intention of letting these villagers' Wánglíng survive; she intended to make them Soul Transformation—"
