Chapter 207: I Won't Give You a Chance

The words Yang Haoran spoke now truly came from the bottom of his heart, without exaggeration, without lies.

After Du Da sacrificed his soul and unleashed the Spiritual Art Hundred Ghosts Devouring Soul, he had indeed stealthily left a seal on Du Da's now lifeless corpse. The main purpose of this seal was to imprison souls.

Du Da was a Spirit Medium, and he clearly understood that after death, souls needed seven days to coalesce into Spirits. During this period, if a soul was forcibly collected and taken away, it meant that its fate would be controlled by others—either becoming someone's puppet, or becoming someone's nourishment, or directly undergoing Soul Transformation.

Given his personality, he would never let such a thing happen to himself. So, he had long before employed a technique to allow his soul to instantly coalesce into a Spirit when his physical body perished, thereby avoiding being controlled by others.

Yang Haoran, too, had experienced Du Da's cunning and treacherous nature firsthand. Though the old geezer wore a benevolent smile and appeared confident of victory, in truth, Yang Haoran's heart was filled with vigilance against him.

Therefore, when Du Da sacrificed his soul to enhance the power of his Spiritual Art Hundred Ghosts Devouring Soul, Yang Haoran truly believed it at first. But then, he recalled Du Da's feigned death trick from before.

At that time, Du Da had faked his death to achieve his goal, even fooling Deng Feng and Zhong Siyu. This showed just how clever his trick was.

Furthermore, Du Da was truly ruthless enough. To achieve his aims, he was not only merciless towards those around him but even more so towards himself. He would rather his Guardian Yin Spirit be devoured by Zhong Siyu, he would rather suffer the torment of the Yin Thunder Formation, yet he still managed to play out his act perfectly, deceiving both Deng Feng and Zhong Siyu.

Thinking of all this, Yang Haoran kept an extra wary eye at that moment, leaving a seal on Du Da's corpse to prevent the scene that had previously occurred in the Ghost Building from repeating, which could cause him to suffer an unexpected defeat.

To his surprise, the old geezer Du Da was indeed playing tricks on him. Not long after he left the seal on Du Da's corpse, he sensed something trying to stealthily slip out of the corpse, but it was precisely blocked by the seal. Realizing something was amiss, that thing instantly vanished from detection, and he could not sense its slightest presence.

Although Yang Haoran didn't show anything at the time, intently watching his Soul Armament Remnant Moon battle Du Da's Spiritual Art Hundred Ghosts Devouring Soul, he actually knew very well in his heart that not only was Du Da's soul still present, but it had also instantly coalesced into a Spirit and was hiding within his physical body. He just didn't know what technique this old geezer had used to evade the senses of him, a Night Watcher.

Though he didn't know what technique Du Da had used, Yang Haoran wasn't flustered in the slightest. As long as he knew Du Da's soul was still within his body, he would find a way to extract him.

As Yang Haoran's words fell, Du Da's corpse remained unresponsive. Yang Haoran gave a faint chuckle, as if something had occurred to him, and a hint of apology appeared in his smile.

"My apologies, I forgot this physical body of yours still carries a seal I left. Even if you wanted to answer me, you couldn't. However, your bag of tricks is endless. Once I remove the seal, you might truly employ some trick and slip away right before my eyes. As a Night Watcher, and out of responsibility for your soul, I think it's better to play it safe."

As his words fell, Yang Haoran tapped Du Da's corpse from afar with his finger. Du Da, whose body had previously ceased emitting Yin Qi, now had a thick layer of Yin Qi reappearing on its surface.

However, once these Yin Qi appeared, they instantly merged into Du Da's body, like tiny snakes searching for food, burrowing into various parts of Du Da's ravaged body.

Moments later, Du Da's ravaged physical body trembled slightly, and a black chain emerged from Du Da's chest. Yang Haoran's smile deepened a few shades. He grabbed the chain with one hand, then yanked it back forcefully—

A clanking sound echoed out as the chain was forcibly pulled out of Du Da's body by Yang Haoran. At the end of the chain, remarkably, a Wánglíng was bound.

This Wánglíng was none other than the Spirit Medium Du Da!

However, Du Da's spirit body was weak at this moment, even weaker than the spirit bodies formed by ordinary people after death. This situation was entirely due to the considerable price he had just paid to perfectly execute his act.

To successfully deceive Yang Haoran, when he unleashed the Spiritual Art Hundred Ghosts Devouring Soul earlier, he decisively separated a portion of his spirit body, then quickly enveloped it with Communication Power and merged it into the black mist above.

The reason for his urgency was his fear that Yang Haoran would spot the flaw. After all, that was not his true soul; it was merely a fragment of power separated from his spirit body. Given a Night Watcher's ability to sense souls, the slightest carelessness would lead to him being discovered.

He dared not be careless, which was why he was so desperate. He even used all the remaining Communication Power in his body as a cover, enveloping this power and sending it into the black mist at his fastest speed at the time.

What he did was flawless, but unfortunately, he still underestimated Yang Haoran. Or rather, he underestimated himself—he underestimated just how ruthless, how cunning and treacherous he was in Yang Haoran's eyes.

He had intended to stealthily slip out of his body while Yang Haoran was dealing with his Spiritual Art Hundred Ghosts Devouring Soul. As long as his soul was not annihilated, he would still have a chance to rise again. At worst, he would cultivate the ghostly path from tonight onwards and still grow stronger and live gloriously.

But what he hadn't expected was that Yang Haoran, this old fox, would stealthily leave a seal on his physical body. The instant his spirit body touched the seal as he prepared to slip out of his body, he knew he had been tricked. Yang Haoran had very likely already sensed his presence.

Although he panicked at that moment, he rationally forced himself to remain calm. No matter what Yang Haoran said, he did not intend to react in any way.

By doing this, he was waiting—waiting for Yang Haoran to remove the seal and extract his spirit body from his physical body.

Once Yang Haoran removed the seal, he would immediately separate another portion of his spirit body to create a diversion, and then seize the opportunity to escape.

But what filled him with despair was that Yang Haoran was too cunning. From the words Yang Haoran spoke, it was clear that Yang Haoran had already guarded against this very trick of his. So, not only did he not remove the seal, but he instead released Spirit Power into his body, forcibly pulling his spirit body out of his physical body!

The moment his spirit body was forcibly dragged out of his physical body by the Spirit Power-formed chains, Du Da knew that the curtain was falling on his life's play. There would be no future, no next life for him.

However, he did not give up because of this. In his view, as long as he hadn't undergone Soul Transformation, he still had a chance.

Just like the benevolent smiling Yang Haoran before him.

Thus, he prepared to sway Yang Haoran with words. Back then, when Yang Haoran was implanted with the Soul Dispersing Needle by him, this was precisely the method Yang Haoran had used.

Since he couldn't match Yang Haoran's strength and had fallen into the other's hands, he would focus his efforts on his words. Perhaps he could still find a sliver of hope for survival.

Back then, wasn't that how Yang Haoran survived?

To survive in his hands, Yang Haoran had been so abject, even discarding his Face entirely.

Now that the same scene was unfolding upon himself, why couldn't he emulate Yang Haoran's past actions?

The world was wondrous, and fate was even more inscrutable. Many times, the evil deeds one committed would unknowingly rebound upon oneself, and one would personally experience them from the other's perspective.

However, back then, to achieve his own goals, Du Da had given Yang Haoran a month's reprieve, not killing him immediately.

Yet, when this scene unfolded upon Du Da, Yang Haoran had no intention of giving him a chance.

Looking at Yang Haoran, whose face was still wreathed in a benevolent smile, Du Da, though firmly bound by the Spirit Power-formed chains, feigned composure and spoke to Yang Haoran in a low voice.

"I want to make a deal with you. Once it's done—"

"Whack!"

Before he could finish his sentence, Yang Haoran slapped Du Da across the face. With the augmentation of Spirit Power, that slap landed squarely. Had he not deliberately controlled his strength, that slap would have caused Du Da to undergo Soul Transformation.

"Don't talk about any deals with me; I'm not interested. Don't worry, I won't give you any chance whatsoever. If I don't personally witness your Soul Transformation tonight, I won't rest."

Yang Haoran shook his hand, dispelling the Spirit Power from it, and spoke to Du Da with a smile that was as benevolent and amiable as ever.

But at this moment, Du Da felt his entire spirit body turn icy cold, as if he had fallen into an ice cavern.
