Chapter 185: You're For Real!

Tonight, a bloody storm was inevitable. That people would die was certain; how many would die, and who would die first, was not.

Yang Haoran didn't want to see Jiang Dashi die here, but his strength was limited after all. Therefore, he could only secretly try to warn Jiang Dashi of the danger, urging him to quickly find a way to escape.

Escaping right under Deng Feng's nose was impossible, but a lack of opportunity now didn't mean there wouldn't be one later. As long as Jiang Dashi trusted his warning, finding a chance to flee wasn't entirely out of the question.

Yang Haoran scurried over to Deng Feng and bowed respectfully. Deng Feng seemed quite pleased with Yang Haoran's demeanor, nodding to him with a smile.

It would have been fine if Deng Feng hadn't done that, but his smiling nod to Yang Haoran only intensified the other Night Watchers' repulsion towards him.

Though their hearts were filled with extreme aversion towards Yang Haoran, in the presence of Deng Feng, the Emissary of Death, the other Night Watchers dared not reveal their many dissatisfactions. One after another, they hurried over to Deng Feng's side, just like Yang Haoran, and bowed respectfully.

Including the few Night Watchers Deng Feng brought out of the spatial rift, all the veteran Night Watchers still alive in Lecheng were now present.

"Haoran, you stay. The rest of you, follow my previous instructions and begin setting up the formation. " Deng Feng ordered all the Night Watchers present.

Yang Haoran was singled out again. Among the Night Watchers present, probably none felt pleased, except for Jiang Dashi. Some, though more cunning and showing no outward signs, felt no less displeasure than those who did.

Since the boss had given such an arrangement, even with boundless displeasure in their hearts, they had to comply, not daring to show even a hint of dissatisfaction.

This was unlike a regular job. If one was unhappy at work, they could simply resign, even loudly proclaiming to their boss, "I quit! " and unleash all their anger and resentment, cursing their boss as an idiot.

Even if the boss was furious, at most, they'd curse you a few times, then have someone throw you out. From then on, you'd go your separate ways, each walking their own path. What else could they do? They couldn't possibly kill you, could they?

Under normal circumstances, certainly not, but Night Watchers were different. If you truly went against Deng Feng, losing all your power was a certainty. As for whether you'd lose your life, that depended on whether you cursed him as an idiot.

Of course, even if you didn't curse him, you might not survive either.

The Night Watchers present were all seasoned veterans; how could they not understand the stakes involved? So, even if they harbored resentment, they had to swallow it, and dared not show it.

At this moment, Yang Haoran wasn't concerned with the other Night Watchers' thoughts. He had no mind to care about such things; what he cared about most was the formation Deng Feng had mentioned.

Under Yang Haoran's gaze, Jiang Dashi and the other Night Watchers began to spread out, centering around the Ghost Building. Each took up a designated position and pulled out a small black flag.

Yang Haoran recognized these flags; they were Formation Flags, used specifically for setting up formations.

Using Formation Flags to set up a formation was also a type of fixed array. Although he hadn't understood these things before, reading so many books now hadn't been in vain. While he couldn't claim extensive knowledge of formations, he knew the basics.

The scene before him caused Yang Haoran to frown slightly. Deng Feng was clearly preparing to set up some formidable formation around the Ghost Building.

Given Deng Feng's status and position, any formation he deemed worthy would certainly not be ordinary. Otherwise, he wouldn't be bringing it out tonight or using it here.

Though he already had some suspicions, Yang Haoran feigned a puzzled expression and looked at Deng Feng.

"Emissary, is this to. . ."

Deng Feng smiled faintly and said, "There's bound to be considerable commotion here tonight. To avoid disturbing ordinary people and attracting unnecessary trouble, I'm setting up a formation in advance to conceal the activity of this place. As long as this formation isn't broken, even if the Ghost Building is turned upside down, it won't affect the outside world at all. What the outside world sees will forever only be a painting – a serene image of the Ghost Building bathed in moonlight."

Yang Haoran naturally didn't believe Deng Feng's explanation, but he still put on an expression of realization.

"The Emissary truly thinks of everything," Yang Haoran chuckled.

"If I couldn't even think of this, my tenure as Emissary of Death would probably have ended long ago," Deng Feng replied.

No sooner had Deng Feng's words fallen than a fierce gust of Yin wind swept through the area. Dust and pebbles on the ground swirled upwards, and the rusty iron gate violently slammed against the wall, issuing a clanging sound.

The Night Watchers, in the midst of setting up the formation, paused their movements. They seemed to have sensed something, and thus dared not continue.

Deng Feng frowned, a displeased expression appearing on his face.

"Why stop? Continue setting up the formation!"

Deng Feng spoke in a low, deep voice. Though not loud, it clearly reached the ears of all the Night Watchers. No matter how the Yin wind howled, it could not obstruct Deng Feng's words.

With Deng Feng's command, the other Night Watchers naturally dared not disobey. Even though they all felt the wrath of the powerful entity within the Ghost Building, their fear of Deng Feng was, by comparison, deeper.

Deng Feng's actions seemed to have thoroughly enraged the entity within the Ghost Building. Not only did the Yin Qi blow even more fiercely, but piercing wails and eerie ghost laughter also echoed from inside the Ghost Building.

At the same time, Jiang Dashi and the others who were setting up the formation froze. Their movements ceased, and their gazes turned dull.

Immediately afterward, the expressions on their faces suddenly varied. Some burst into joyful laughter, as if they had encountered something incredibly happy.

Others were filled with sorrow, their expressions desolate, as if enduring an incomprehensible grief, with tears continuously streaming down their cheeks.

Still others were consumed by terror, their hands wildly flailing at the air in front of them, as if something terrifying was slowly approaching, and their frantic gestures were merely an instinctual attempt to ward it off.

All the Night Watchers suddenly underwent such bizarre changes, making it obvious at a glance that they had almost certainly fallen into an illusion.

To make so many Night Watchers fall victim simultaneously in an instant, and right under the nose of Deng Feng, the Emissary of Death, was no easy feat, yet the opponent had managed it.

Deng Feng's face darkened. For all the Night Watchers, save Yang Haoran, to be collectively ensnared right under his gaze was, for him, quite a loss of face.

"Hmph!"

A cold snort escaped his lips. This snort, like a muffled clap of thunder, suddenly exploded within the minds of all the Night Watchers.

The expressions on Jiang Dashi and the other Night Watchers' faces first froze, then their bodies shivered, and they all snapped back to reality from the illusion.

Recalling their brief experience in the illusion, though only for an instant, filled all their hearts with lingering fear.

"I'll hold him off. You all continue setting up the formation!"

Deng Feng commanded in a low voice. Then, a terrifying aura suddenly burst forth from him. Potent Spirit Power surged within his body like a black dragon, and dense Yin Qi roared out, directly sending Yang Haoran flying away from his side.

Spirit Power erupted from Deng Feng's diminutive body like a breaking dam, instantly engulfing the entire Ghost Building. It was hard to imagine that such a small physique could contain such terrifying power.

Under the shroud of potent Spirit Power, the Ghost Building began to tremble. Whether this trembling was due to the entity within being too enraged, or because Deng Feng's power was simply too immense for the building to withstand, remained unknown.

However, at that very moment, an enraged voice echoed from within the Ghost Building!

"Deng Feng! We agreed this was an act! Why the hell are you going all out? !"

It was a woman's voice, somewhat hoarse. While her age before death couldn't be discerned from her voice alone, the hoarseness conveyed a mix of fury and bloodthirsty madness.

Deng Feng didn't answer the woman. As he continuously released Spirit Power to suppress the Ghost Building, he roared at Jiang Dashi and the others.

"Are you pigs? ! What are you gaping at? Get to setting up the formation!"

Berated furiously by Deng Feng, Jiang Dashi and the other Night Watchers snapped back to attention. Without a hint of hesitation, they swiftly plunged their Formation Flags into their designated positions, as per Deng Feng's earlier instructions.
