Chapter 1388: Who Do You Think You Are?

Yang Haoran's Death God uniform, in some respects, truly symbolized Yang Haoran himself, for it bore his personal information. This was true not just for a Guardian's Death God uniform, but even an Emissary of Death's uniform, which similarly contained detailed information.

Under normal circumstances, an Underworld Official would never hand over their Death God uniform to another, as it represented their identity, and doing so carelessly could easily lead to trouble. However, in special situations, the Death God uniform could indeed be given to someone else as a token of trust.

Yang Haoran trusted Old Master Wu's authority in the Ninth District and believed his other trusted subordinates would cooperate with Old Master Wu. Nevertheless, for the sake of security and to prevent any unforeseen incidents, he still took off his Death God uniform and handed it to Old Master Wu. With his uniform, everything would be foolproof. As long as there were no traitors like Xiao Kang, there would certainly be no one disobeying orders, at least not in the short term.

"As you command!"

The situation was urgent, and Old Master Wu understood the stakes involved. Thus, he didn't hesitate for a moment. There was no emotional speech, no melodramatic parting, nor any probing questions. He knew time waited for no one, and the enemy certainly wouldn't grant him time for idle chatter. So, after catching the Death God uniform Yang Haoran tossed to him, he simply responded with two words, and with a flash of his body, he charged towards the staircase.

Though his two-word reply was brief and crisp, it carried an immense weight, like a thousand pounds!

"Think you can leave? I don't think so!"

The slightly corpulent man scoffed, speaking with a cold sneer, while his hands moved with no less speed. With a flick of his wrist, chains condensed into a massive net, completely blocking Old Master Wu's path!

The suddenness of the situation left the slightly corpulent man no time to form hand seals and unleash a Ghost Art. However, he didn't believe Old Master Wu would be his match. In his view, for him, a Guardian, to capture Old Master Wu, a mere ghost, would be an effortless task. Moreover, the power of an Underworld Official inherently possessed a strong suppressive effect on ghosts, making it even easier to subdue Old Master Wu. Why bother with Ghost Arts? A regular attack would be more than enough to stop Old Master Wu.

The space on the second floor wasn't large to begin with, but the suddenly appearing net was considerable, occupying a significant portion of it. Because of this, the net of chains didn't just seal off the staircase; it also cordoned off the entire area around the staircase.

"Heh, does my turf need your permission? Who do you think you are?"

Yang Haoran let out a cold snort. While his words were directed at the slightly corpulent man, he himself charged towards the middle-aged woman who was preparing to strike.

As he spoke, powerful Spirit Power whistled from Yang Haoran's hands, interrupting the middle-aged woman's hand seals. While the slightly corpulent man was condensing his chains, this middle-aged woman hadn't been idle; she was forming hand seals to unleash a Ghost Art. Yang Haoran saw this unfold, and naturally, he wouldn't allow her to successfully cast her Ghost Art.

While Yang Haoran acted to interrupt the middle-aged woman's Ghost Art, he simultaneously multitasked, releasing a massive amount of Spirit Power from his body to forcibly shatter the large net of chains condensed by the slightly corpulent man.

Old Master Wu, who had originally intended to break through the net of chains himself, saw Yang Haoran shatter them in a mere instant. He didn't foolishly stand there in shock; instead, he seized this chance and rushed out of the second floor in one breath. This was an unmissable opportunity. If he didn't seize it to leave immediately, then once these two Guardians from the Tong Continent Yin Division got serious, his escape would undoubtedly become far more troublesome, and he would certainly add a greater burden to Yang Haoran.

All of this happened in an instant. While the slightly corpulent man and the middle-aged woman were still reeling from Yang Haoran's display of power, Old Master Wu had already surged out of the second floor, vanishing without a trace. It was too late for them to intervene and stop him now!

"Damn it! He actually got away! I'll go after him! Yang Haoran is yours to deal with!"

The slightly corpulent man swore loudly, and without waiting for the middle-aged woman's reply, he prepared to rush out of the second floor to pursue Old Master Wu.

"Neither of you are going anywhere!"

Yang Haoran spoke coolly. Just as he finished speaking, the slightly corpulent man had already charged forward.

Bang! !

A light barrier materialized at the staircase entrance, sealing it off. The slightly corpulent man collided squarely with this barrier. Before he charged out, the light barrier had been in a concealed state, only revealing itself as he crashed into it; it was a light barrier formed by a restraint barrier.

This restraint barrier was precisely the one Yang Haoran had activated and then caused to vanish when he first entered the second floor. After successfully reaching the second floor, he hadn't immediately reactivated it because he wanted to ensure Old Master Wu could pass through unhindered, without needing to open the barrier again.

After Old Master Wu rushed out of the second floor, Yang Haoran immediately and silently reactivated the restraint barrier on the second floor. The slightly corpulent man and the middle-aged woman weren't paying attention to it; their focus was entirely on Old Master Wu and Yang Haoran. Furthermore, the restraint barrier had been activated stealthily, so the two hadn't noticed, leading to the current scene.

Given the slightly corpulent man's strength, any ordinary restraint barrier would have surely been torn open by such a collision, failing to obstruct him in the slightest. Yet, the light barrier formed by this particular restraint barrier not only blocked him but even repelled him, demonstrating its extraordinary nature.

The slightly corpulent man stabilized himself, a look of shock on his face. Yang Haoran's displayed power had already taken him by surprise, but the fact that he couldn't break through this restraint barrier, and was even repelled by it, astonished him even further.

The slightly corpulent man wasn't the only one shocked; the middle-aged woman was equally astonished. However, Yang Haoran didn't pause because of their surprise. A torrent of Spirit Power surged from his body, and under his control, launched a fierce assault on both of them, catching them completely off guard!

Inside Yang Haoran's study, the Tongzhou Great Emperor sat in Yang Haoran's chair, his legs crossed and his brows slightly furrowed.

"What are those two up to?"

The Tongzhou Great Emperor muttered to himself. The "two rascals" he spoke of were none other than the slightly corpulent man and the middle-aged woman.

The reason for his furrowed brow was that when Yang Haoran and the two had first left the study, he had been able to sense their presence through the faint power fluctuations emanating from them. Not only them, but he could also sense the faint power fluctuations from Yang Haoran.

However, this situation only lasted for a short while. Before long, he could no longer sense the power fluctuations from the two Guardians, nor from Yang Haoran.

When this first occurred, he hadn't been concerned. This was because not only did the slightly corpulent man and the middle-aged woman have confidence in their own abilities, but he too had confidence in his two subordinates' strength. He didn't believe Yang Haoran would be a match for them. After all, Yang Haoran had become a Guardian too recently; his power couldn't be that formidable. In his estimation, looking at the entire Guardian cohort, Yang Haoran's strength was definitely among the lowest tier.

In contrast, the two Guardians he had brought with him were entirely different from Yang Haoran. Both were veteran Guardians; within the Guardian cohort, if not among the very top, they were certainly upper-middle tier. For them to deal with Yang Haoran, this newcomer, would be an effortless task. Even if this was Yang Haoran's Guardian District, it would be no exception. Thus, when he couldn't sense their power fluctuations, he wasn't worried at all.

But as of now, their power fluctuations had been gone for quite some time. What had initially caused him no concern had now sparked a flicker of doubt in his mind; he couldn't fathom what the two were doing.

After a brief moment of thought, a guess formed in the Tongzhou Great Emperor's mind.

"Could it be that they've set up a restraint barrier to trap Yang Haoran, and now they're taking this opportunity to give him a good lesson?"

The Tongzhou Great Emperor formed this guess because he had a certain understanding of the personalities of his two subordinate Guardians. He felt that his two subordinates might very well do this. After all, the Tong Continent Yin Division and the Jingling Continent Yin Division had considerable grievances between them, and the same was true among their Guardians. Since there was an opportunity to teach a lesson to a Guardian from the opposing side, they naturally wouldn't want to easily miss it.

At this thought, the Tongzhou Great Emperor's slightly furrowed brow relaxed.

"Never mind. If they want to play around, let them play. As long as it doesn't delay things too long, letting off some steam on Yang Haoran, a Guardian from the opposing side, isn't such a bad thing."
