Chapter 1315: I Have My Bottom Line!
Due to the busy wedding preparations, Yang Haoran didn't linger long at Xu Meijing's place. After they sat down and thoroughly discussed the details, Yang Haoran departed at Xu Meijing's urging.
Upon returning to his Guardian District, Yang Haoran, after much deliberation, began to busy himself. The first task was creating the wedding invitations. Given his and Xu Meijing's status as Underworld Office Guardians, even the invitations had to be impeccably presented, lest they become a laughingstock.
As invitations were sent out one after another, news of Yang Haoran and Xu Meijing's impending marriage spread within a few short days. From the highest-ranking officials to the cleaning staff, everyone in Yang Haoran's Guardian District was aware of it. As for the outside world, no small number of people had also come to know of the matter.
For Yang Haoran and Xu Meijing, marriage was naturally a monumental event, a joyous occasion of immense significance. Yet, while some offered their congratulations, others fretted over it day in and day out, and still others harbored thoughts of sabotage.
Bai Xue's mood had been rather low lately. From the moment she learned of Yang Haoran and Xu Meijing's impending marriage, her emotions immediately shifted. Even though she deliberately concealed it, appearing no different than usual, those familiar with her could still discern the subtle changes in her demeanor. The smile on her face remained, yet it held a touch less allure and a hint more of a loneliness usually absent.
"President, you. . . your mood seems a bit off lately."
Within the Flock of Demons Society, Bai Jiumeng watched Bai Xue, her brows subtly furrowed, her tone betraying a hint of worry.
"Oh? Off? What's off? Why haven't I noticed? My little beauty, is your perception perhaps faulty?"
Even before, Bai Xue had been extraordinarily alluring, with truly few women in the world capable of rivaling her. Now, having successfully cultivated the Charm Art, she had subtly become even more seductive; even her aura had undergone a massive transformation. Even without intentionally deploying her Charm Art, the allure she exuded was incomparable to what it once was.
If Bai Xue's allure before was a five, it was now a ten. With both great fox demon arts united within her, her seductive power multiplied. Though not of the Fox Clan herself, the allure she constantly exuded was even greater than that of the Fox Clan!
Normally, Bai Xue displayed this alluring demeanor to everyone; every frown and smile was filled with extreme temptation. However, Bai Jiumeng herself was a woman and also a stunning beauty, and thus was unaffected by Bai Xue's potent allure. Yet, Bai Xue's current state made her furrow her brows even deeper, and the worry in her beautiful eyes became even more intense than before.
"Because your concealment is too deliberate. Those unfamiliar with you might not see through it, but I've been with you for several years now. I can tell you haven't been happy lately."
Bai Jiumeng spoke plainly, yet Bai Xue remained unfazed, the alluring smile on her face not diminishing in the slightest because of Bai Jiumeng's words.
"Heh heh, you're overthinking it. Perhaps it's because I've recently cultivated your Fox Clan's Charm Art, leading to a change in my aura, which is why you feel I seem a little different than before."
Bai Xue explained with a smile, her expression natural and her attitude casual, as if discussing an insignificant trifle.
"Is it because the Boss is getting married soon?"
Bai Jiumeng seemed not to have heard Bai Xue's explanation. Her expression unchanged, she looked at Bai Xue and asked this question in a flat tone.
At these words, Bai Xue's alluring smile immediately stiffened. It took her several seconds to recover.
"Oh, look at you, talking like that. Brother Emissary of Death is getting married soon. Even if my mood has changed, it's out of happiness. Although I don't have much affection for Xu Meijing personally, especially her cold, arrogant, and disdainful look, which really gets on my nerves, she is, after all, Brother Emissary of Death's choice. I believe Brother Emissary of Death's judgment won't be wrong; he must have his reasons for choosing Xu Meijing."
Bai Xue spoke with an alluring smile. Hearing her words, Bai Jiumeng's brows furrowed even tighter. She was about to say something, but Bai Xue interrupted her with a wave of her hand.
"Alright, stop wasting time here. Go help out. Everyone in the Guardian District is so frazzled from busyness lately; it's only going to get crazier later. And here you are, slacking off with me. If Brother Emissary of Death finds out, I'll be in trouble."
No sooner had these words fallen than Bai Xue immediately urged her again.
"Hurry up, hurry up, don't dawdle! I also need to go patrol outside, lest someone with ill intentions infiltrate Lecheng. " After flinging these words, Bai Xue didn't look at Bai Jiumeng again, nor did she speak to her. She waved her hand, opening a spatial rift, and with a flash of her figure, she stepped into it. As the spatial rift rapidly healed, Bai Xue vanished with it, leaving only Bai Jiumeng standing alone in the entire hall.
Staring at the area where the spatial rift had healed, Bai Jiumeng remained silent for a long time. After an unknown duration, she quietly sighed, shook her head, and walked out of the hall.
Bai Xue was right. Lately, everyone in the Guardian District was utterly frazzled from busyness, all because Yang Haoran and Xu Meijing's wedding was being held in Yang Haoran's Guardian District, not Xu Meijing's.
Although Xu Meijing was quite assertive when facing Yang Haoran, she still considered his feelings regarding the details. Thus, not only did she not forcefully demand the wedding be held in her own Guardian District, but she proactively suggested holding it in Yang Haoran's.
Precisely because of this, everyone in Yang Haoran's Guardian District had been swamped lately, Yang Haoran himself included.
There were countless things to busy themselves with: tidying, cleaning, renovating, decorating the wedding venue, preparing necessary items, and so on—an endless array of tasks, big and small. Although the wedding was for Yang Haoran and Xu Meijing, they weren't the only two attending. This wasn't merely a simple wedding; it also involved the "face" of two Underworld Office Guardians. Therefore, not even the slightest carelessness was allowed; a single overlooked detail could significantly detract from the overall impression of the entire ceremony.
After leaving the hall, Bai Jiumeng also joined the bustling multitude, though somewhat distracted. From time to time, Bai Xue's lonely figure, and the scene of her evasively departing the hall, would surface in her mind.
Meanwhile, Bai Xue, after emerging from the spatial rift, arrived directly outside Lecheng.
Ever since Zhu Rong became Lecheng's Administrative Chief, military patrols had been continuously conducted outside the city to ensure the safety of its inhabitants. Now, with Yang Haoran and Xu Meijing's wedding approaching, the influx of people entering Lecheng was bound to increase and diversify, so the intensity of patrols outside the city naturally rose as well.
Bai Xue did not join the patrolling army. Instead, she descended at the foot of a mountain, walking aimlessly. Her face no longer held the alluring smile she wore when facing Bai Jiumeng; in its place was an expression of sorrow, and a lonely silhouette.
After walking for an unknown duration and distance, Bai Xue suddenly sensed something. Her steps halted abruptly, the sorrow on her face vanished, replaced once more by an alluring, seductive expression.
"Oh, who's been skulking behind me? Couldn't be you're lusting after my body, are you?"
As Bai Xue spoke, she slowly turned around, her gaze drifting towards a certain direction. A large tree, so thick it would take several people to encircle it, came into view. Under her watchful eye, a Black-Robed Person slowly emerged from behind the tree. A hood covered their entire head, obscuring their face, and their body was shrouded in a loose black robe, revealing not the slightest outline of their figure, making it impossible to discern their gender.
"Heh heh, exquisite beauty, an impeccable figure, an irresistible allure. . . I am indeed very greedy for it. But what good is my greed if you aren't willing to give it to me?"
The Black-Robed Person spoke. Their voice was hoarse and unpleasant, with very low recognizability; by voice alone, it was impossible to tell if they were male or female. Clearly, their voice was almost certainly specially treated, as normal people wouldn't possess such a voice.
However, from the implication of their words, they seemed to be a man, but only seemed so, not definitively, as it couldn't be ruled out that they had deliberately spoken that way.
"Heh heh heh heh, if you want it, of course I'd be willing to give it. But with you so secretive and lacking any sincerity, how am I to give it? Are you perhaps also trying to shroud me in that black robe? This black robe might be able to cover you alone, but to cover both of us at once, it might be a bit of a struggle. The space would be too small, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to spread out, and then you wouldn't have fun, would you?"
Bai Xue spoke with an alluring smile, full of captivating charm. With a twist of her boneless, slender waist, her body subtly, little by little, edged closer to the Black-Robed Person.
"You may flaunt your charms and tease me, but do not approach. I am well aware of what you are planning. If you still wish to hear what I have to say, then you had best halt your steps."
The Black-Robed Person remained motionless. From beneath the black robe, the unnatural hoarse voice spoke again, laced with a strong note of warning.
"Oh, you're so fierce! I just love your domineering aura, heh heh heh heh."
Bai Xue covered her mouth with an alluring smile. Though her words sounded like praise on the surface, they were actually mockery. Nevertheless, Bai Xue did indeed stop advancing, halting her steps as the other party intended.
"Alright, speak. Who are you? State your name. And while you're at it, take off your hood and let me see your beautiful face, so I can at least have an idea. Have you ever heard of a blind date where someone doesn't even give their name or wears a mask? What's more, you're lusting after my body; the nature of this is far more complicated than a simple blind date. If I were to foolishly give myself to you without knowing your name or appearance, that would be rather inappropriate, wouldn't it? Besides, I'm not that casual a person. I have my bottom line."
