Chapter 1254: Siege
Just as the woman in Shi Weihan's arms had guessed, although this place was destroyed, the surrounding area remained intact. Moreover, this was the bustling Corpse Ancestor City, home to a considerable number of both ordinary and extraordinary individuals, so it was inevitable that many nearby had witnessed the events that transpired here.
The elder who was currently reporting to Shi Weihan had, by finding eyewitnesses, successfully pieced together what had just happened, and thus hurried back immediately to inform Shi Weihan. As he reported, others also returned, one after another, to give their accounts to Shi Weihan.
With these reports, Shi Weihan and the young woman in his arms finally gained a relatively detailed understanding of the situation that had just unfolded here.
"So, the sealing barrier wasn't breached by the Ghost King's attack, but rather broken by the trapped individual themselves. Did this Ghost King only follow our people because she merely wanted to watch the show?"
Shi Weihan furrowed his brows, speaking in a deep voice. After uttering his words, he immediately shook his head slightly, dismissing his own conjecture.
"Not necessarily. Perhaps the Ghost King knew another person was trapped here and rushed to their rescue. It's just that the Ghost King hadn't had time to act, or hadn't found the right opportunity to strike, before the sealing barrier was forcibly broken. So, we cannot entirely rule out a connection between the Ghost King and the trapped individual."
The woman in Shi Weihan's arms gave a charming smile upon hearing this, then spoke.
"Heh heh, this Ghost King not only slaughtered many of our Corpse Sect's inner disciples but also reduced this place to ruins. To commit such audacious acts on the Corpse Sect's territory simply shows she holds our Corpse Sect in utter contempt. Since she dares to provoke us so brazenly, then regardless of her connection to the trapped individual, she must die. Otherwise, how will our Corpse Sect ever maintain its standing in Tong Continent?"
"My wife is right. Anyone who dares cause trouble on my Corpse Sect's territory must pay the price. They've already died once, yet they still don't know how to rein themselves in. This time, I will make sure her soul is utterly transformed, and then I'll refine her Ghost King body into a zombie! Hahahahaha!"
Shi Weihan burst into roaring laughter at the end, as if he could already see the scene of successfully slaying his opponent and refining her into a zombie.
"An ordinary Ghost King is nothing to our Corpse Sect, but whether this particular Ghost King unleashed her full power just now, we're still uncertain. So, my dear, it's best not to be careless. Furthermore, the trapped individual was able to break through the sealing barrier and escape under the encirclement of our Corpse Sect's experts, which indicates that their strength is also not to be underestimated. We likely underestimated her before. Therefore, to be safe, I think it's better to send more people over, lest these two escape."
The woman spoke with a captivating smile, and Shi Weihan, hearing her words, nodded gently in agreement.
"Not two people; to be precise, it should be three."
The elder, his face full of wrinkles, added this at that moment, but Shi Weihan remained unfazed.
. . . . 'The other person is too weak; this Door Master doesn't even have him in my sights. There's absolutely no need to count him. '"
The person they spoke of was none other than Yang Haoran, who had only used a fraction of his power.
"Although this person's strength is pitifully weak, based on the information I just gathered, the power they released seems to be Spirit Power. This suggests they are very likely an Underworld Office agent. Furthermore, when they unleashed that power fluctuation just now, it doesn't necessarily mean they used their full strength."
Shi Weihan frowned. He wasn't someone impervious to reason. In his view, the wrinkled elder's words indeed made sense, so he didn't rebuke the elder, nor did he ignore his warning.
"Whether he's an Underworld Office agent, I'll need to confirm to know for sure. If this person truly is from the Underworld Office, this matter becomes a bit troublesome—there are both advantages and disadvantages."
Shi Weihan pondered for a moment before speaking with a furrowed brow. The enchanting woman in his arms immediately chuckled upon hearing his words.
"My dear, you needn't worry. This person might not be from the Underworld Office at all, but rather a Spirit Medium, who are now forced to lie low. After all, a Spirit Medium's Communication Power is extremely similar to an Underworld Office agent's Spirit Power. It's common for those not deeply familiar with both energies to confuse them. Moreover, under normal circumstances, how could an Underworld Official be accompanied by a Ghost King? It's even more impossible for them to coexist harmoniously. Conversely, it's not strange at all for a Spirit Medium to have a ghost by their side. So, I think the possibility of this person being a Spirit Medium is far higher than them being an Underworld Official."
Shi Weihan nodded, not refuting the enchanting woman's conjecture. After all, her analysis was equally reasonable.
"Regardless of whether he's an Underworld Official or a Spirit Medium, causing such a commotion on my territory is a blatant provocation to my Corpse Sect!"
After uttering these words, Shi Weihan's gaze fell upon the youngest and weakest individual present.
"I'll leave the aftermath here to you. The rest of you, follow me to assess the situation. If this matter involves the Underworld Office, I will demand an explanation from them. If it's a Spirit Medium causing trouble, then I will certainly take their life!"
Although Shi Weihan's words were filled with murderous intent, it wasn't hard to discern his deep apprehension towards the Underworld Office.
At Shi Weihan's command, everyone except for the one left behind to manage the aftermath transformed into streaks of grey light and followed him. The direction he headed was precisely where Yang Haoran and Zhong Siyu had just vanished. In the blink of an eye, the group disappeared into the night, leaving no trace.
Under the moonlight, a lone figure struggled immensely against the onslaught of multiple attackers. The besieged individual found it difficult not only to counterattack but even to defend adequately.
This person's strength was not truly weak; it was merely that her assailants were numerous and equally formidable. Thus, she was simply no match for them alone.
The tremendous roars of colliding powers shattered the tranquility of the deep night. Energies of varying colors illuminated the sky like lightning. After only a brief exchange, the individual was defeated, struck by a surge of power, and sent hurtling downwards like a meteor, crashing towards the ground below.
. . . . Boom! ! !
With a deafening crash, the ground trembled. A vast cloud of dust and smoke billowed upwards, while above, whooshing sounds echoed one after another, encircling the dust-shrouded area.
"You damn bitch, if you've got the guts, get up and keep running! Today, I want to see just how capable you really are, goddammit!"
A man, his face contorted with rage, cursed loudly at the swirling dust below. One of his arms was now gone, his clothes soaked with blood. A grotesque wound marred his otherwise handsome face, blood continually gushing from it, making his once comely features appear terrifyingly disfigured.
The reason for this man's fury was that he had twice today nearly lost his life at the opponent's hands. Had he not reacted quickly enough, and had his comrades not come to his rescue, his corpse might well have been cold by now.
Although he had narrowly saved his life both times, he still ended up severely wounded. Not only had he lost an arm, but a hideous wound now scarred his face. Had his comrades not reacted swiftly and pulled him back in time, that last strike wouldn't have just left a gruesome scar on his face; his entire head would have been cleaved in two!
Recalling that perilous moment, he still felt a chill of dread. However, he didn't reveal his inner fear, instead manifesting extreme rage, hoping to use his fury to mask the terror within.
He wasn't the only one gravely wounded. Everyone present from their Corpse Sect bore injuries to varying degrees, with some even more severely hurt than him. Moreover, the zombies they had nurtured were almost entirely destroyed. This clearly showed the immense losses they had suffered in this fierce battle, and simultaneously highlighted the formidable strength of their opponent. Had their numbers not been sufficient, and their individual strengths not considerable, it wouldn't have been this opponent who was defeated right now!
