Chapter 1142: Heavy Casualties (Part 2)

Yang Haoran wasted no time; his figure flickered, and he vanished from his spot.

The two Night Watchers were covered in blood, their auras weak. One glance was enough to tell they had sustained severe injuries, and their internal power was dwindling.

The two were well aware that, in their current state, it was impossible for them to survive this battle, much less defeat the four assailants surrounding them. Thus, they had steeled themselves for a fight to the death.

Naturally, their decision to fight to the death was born of desperation; if they had any other choice, they certainly wouldn't wish to throw their lives away like this. But the problem was, they had no choice. The four assailants would never let them go, so they could only choose to battle them to the bitter end.

Their opponents consisted of two Spirit Mediums and two Exorcists. It was perfectly normal for the Spirit Mediums to pursue them with murderous intent; after all, the two sides were mortal enemies, and a confrontation typically meant one side would perish. This was standard practice, so in this situation, those two Spirit Mediums would naturally show no mercy.

As for why the two Exorcists also attacked the Night Watchers, that too wasn't hard to understand. Perhaps the Tongyou City Underworld Division had a deep-seated grudge against them, or perhaps they had taken money to resolve others' troubles, accepting some benefit from the Spirit Mediums, which led them to side with the Spirit Mediums.

Regardless of the true reason, one point was undeniable: these two Exorcists had chosen to stand with the Spirit Mediums.

“All of us major powers in Tongyou City have been suffocated by your Underworld Division, and we Exorcists are no exception. You probably never dreamed that you 'Yin dogs' would have a day like this! ”

An Exorcist, eyes blazing with fury, spoke through gritted teeth to the two Night Watchers. From his enraged face and his words, it was clear he harbored deep resentment towards the Tongyou City Underworld Division.

The man didn't cease his attacks as he spoke. Simultaneously, a short wooden sword, under his control, ceaselessly assailed one of the Night Watchers. Though small, this wooden sword, encased in a layer of golden light, erupted with a powerful energy fluctuation, clearly indicating it was a potent magic weapon.

The other Exorcist remained silent, but he likewise unleashed a fierce assault with his own magic weapon. His target, unlike the first, was the other Night Watcher.

As for the two Spirit Mediums, neither had made a move yet. Their Guardian Spirits floated suspended behind them, also inactive. In their view, the two Night Watchers were already at the end of their rope, completely exhausted, and there was no need for them to intervene.

Furthermore, they knew the two Exorcists harbored deep resentment towards the Tongyou City Underworld Division. Therefore, no one interfered in this situation, allowing the two Exorcists to vent their anger. Doing so not only conserved their own power but also firmly bound the two Exorcists to their side. The more Night Watchers the Exorcists killed, the more firmly they would be tied to their cause, which was nothing but beneficial to them.

Under the fierce onslaught of the two Exorcists, the two Night Watchers steadily retreated. Although both were gritting their teeth and holding on, the continuous overflow of blood from their lips and their trembling bodies indicated they truly were at their wit's end.

“Heh heh, the Tongyou City Underworld Division used to rely on its strength, suppressing other factions until they couldn’t breathe. We Spirit Mediums were also suppressed by the Underworld Division, daring not to show our faces. Now, seeing the Tongyou City Underworld Division reduced to this state, it truly lifts one’s spirits. ”

Watching the two Night Watchers continuously spew blood under the fierce attacks of the two Exorcists, one Spirit Medium spoke with a smile, the schadenfreude in his tone quite evident.

If one were to ask which faction in all of Tongyou City had been most brutally suppressed by the Underworld Division, it would undoubtedly be the Spirit Mediums. This was because Spirit Mediums were inherently mortal enemies of the Underworld Division, their primary targets for extermination. Thus, the Underworld Division never showed mercy to Spirit Mediums, and the Tongyou City Underworld Division was naturally no exception.

Over the years, a considerable number of Spirit Mediums had died at the hands of the Tongyou City Underworld Division. Those who survived had to live in hiding, never daring to show their faces, leading extremely stifling lives. It wasn't until the world descended into chaos, and they gained the backing of the Spiritualist God, that they gradually dared to emerge from the shadows into the open.

Therefore, the Spirit Medium who had just spoken, beyond his evident schadenfreude, also felt immensely relieved.

“Hmph, if I could personally dispose of these two fellows, my mood would be even more uplifted. ”

The Spirit Medium beside him, upon hearing this, first let out a cold snort, then spoke icily. If it weren't for the need to firmly tie down these two Exorcists, he certainly wouldn't be standing by watching the show right now.

“Why the rush? There are plenty more 'Yin dogs' in Tongyou City. Once we’ve dealt with these two, we’ll just find new targets. You’ll have your chance to vent, and besides, several Night Watchers have already died by our hands during this period. These two are no different. ”

The first Spirit Medium to speak replied, then shouted at the two Exorcists.

“Hurry up! There are still many 'Yin dogs' in Tongyou City, and some reinforcements even arrived today. Finish these two off quickly, and we’ll go look for new targets. ”

Neither Exorcist responded, but both increased the speed and intensity of their attacks. The two Night Watchers, already no match for them, were directly sent flying by the assailants' magic weapons under their fierce assault. When the magic weapons struck again, the two Night Watchers simultaneously lost their ability to resist, forced to watch as the artifacts rapidly shot towards their bodies.

However, at this critical juncture, a figure suddenly materialized before the two. Before the six individuals present could even react, this person slammed a palm onto a bronze mirror, sending it flying. Immediately afterward, he extended two fingers to pinch the incoming wooden sword, and with a flick of his wrist, a powerful force shattered the magic wooden sword on the spot.

This person was none other than Yang Haoran.

All those present were utterly stunned by the scene before them. Yang Haoran’s sudden appearance had already shocked them, but what stunned them even more was his power. In a flash of lightning and flint, he not only sent one magic weapon flying but even effortlessly shattered another. How could they not be astonished?

After the initial shock, it was replaced by intense bewilderment. They hadn't detected any particularly strong energy fluctuations from Yang Haoran. Based solely on the energy fluctuations he was currently emitting, it should have been utterly impossible for him to accomplish such a feat.

To be precise, the energy fluctuations emanating from Yang Haoran at that moment had absolutely no relation to the word "powerful. " They were only slightly stronger than those emitted by the two severely wounded Night Watchers present, and significantly weaker compared to the other four individuals.

However, none of them were fools. Their bewilderment lasted only a moment before they understood what was happening: Yang Haoran must have concealed his true strength, reining in his power, which was why the energy fluctuations he emitted weren't strong.

“Spirit Power! You’re from the Underworld Division! ”

The two Spirit Mediums, who had been chatting and laughing moments before, now had drastically changed expressions, their gazes at Yang Haoran filled with vigilance. Although the energy fluctuations Yang Haoran was currently emitting weren't intense, they both recognized that the power emanating from his body was the Spirit Power unique to the Underworld Division, not the Communication Power of their Spirit Mediums.

That Spirit Mediums and the Underworld Division were in opposition was a fact known throughout the entire New Beginning Realm. Precisely because of this animosity, the expressions of the two Spirit Mediums had changed so drastically; the one who had spoken even adopted a combat stance.

The two Exorcists' expressions were equally grim, especially the one controlling the wooden sword. Not only was his face ashen, but he also coughed up a mouthful of fresh blood. His magic weapon had been destroyed by Yang Haoran, and as he was spiritually linked to it, its destruction naturally implicated him, its master. Furthermore, since the artifact was destroyed while he was actively controlling it, the impact on him was undoubtedly even greater.

Compared to the four assailants, the two Night Watchers' moods were precisely the opposite. Both were immensely excited, for they had believed they were moments away from dying beneath the Exorcists' magic weapons. Yet, against all odds, the artifacts meant to claim their lives had either been sent flying or destroyed. At this crucial moment, their lives were saved—how could they not be thrilled?

Although Yang Haoran had his back to them, preventing them from seeing his face, they had also sensed the Spirit Power emanating from him. Thus, one thing they could confirm was that Yang Haoran was one of their own from the Underworld Division, an ally, not an enemy.

Their excitement at that moment, beyond merely having their lives saved, stemmed more from Yang Haoran’s strength. Even if the energy fluctuations he was currently emitting weren't immense, his ability to effortlessly send one magic weapon flying and destroy another in such a critical, split-second situation was proof enough of his formidable power. With the addition of such a strong expert, their current disadvantage might well be reversed.

As the Spirit Medium spoke in shock, the bronze mirror that had been knocked away suddenly ascended into the air under the Exorcist's control. Empowered by a massive influx of energy, the mirror's size instantly swelled dozens of times over, radiating dazzling golden light. Suspended in the sky, it shone as brilliantly as the sun.

The Spirit Medium controlling the bronze mirror knew that Yang Haoran possessed immense power within him; otherwise, he wouldn't have so easily destroyed his comrade's magic weapon. Therefore, recovering from his shock, he wasted no words and immediately poured his internal power frantically into his artifact, intending to use his full strength against Yang Haoran. Even if he couldn't kill Yang Haoran with one blow, severely wounding him would still be a positive outcome.

A beam of golden light shot forth from the bronze mirror, aimed precisely at Yang Haoran. As this golden ray erupted from the mirror, the previously dazzling artifact immediately became dim and lusterless.
