Chapter 1139: A Plea for Help from Tongyou City

Inside the Guardian District, Yang Haoran summoned Old Master Wu back with a Communication Talisman.

“Boss, are you in such a hurry to find me because there's an important task you need me to do? ”

Old Master Wu stood respectfully before Yang Haoran, a faint smile on his face, and took the initiative to ask.

Hearing this, Yang Haoran took a drag from his cigarette, flicked the ash lightly, and then said with a smile to Old Master Wu.

“Heh heh, calling you back so suddenly, there is indeed a very important matter. ”

Receiving Yang Haoran's affirmative reply, Old Master Wu's expression did not change in the slightest.

“Heh heh, Boss, please say. No matter the task, this subordinate will devote all his effort to completing it, even if it costs this old life of mine. ”

Yang Haoran waved his hand with a smile, then spoke.

“Heh heh, it's not as serious as you make it out to be. While this matter is important, it carries no danger. I believe you already know about the order I issued today within the Underworld Iron Tome. What I need you to do is very simple: manage the merits and demerits of our Ninth District's Emissaries of Death. Every so often, I will reward those with merits. Of course, I will also punish those who have demerits. ”

Yang Haoran didn't want to handle this matter because he found it troublesome; he simply didn't have that much time to devote to it.

The reason he entrusted Old Master Wu with this task was, on one hand, because he trusted Old Master Wu, and on the other hand, because he knew Old Master Wu was an expert in handling such affairs. With him in charge, there would be no mistakes, which is why he decided to hand the responsibility over to Old Master Wu.

“Heh heh, Boss, rest assured. This subordinate will certainly handle this matter flawlessly, ensuring absolutely no problems arise. ”

Although Old Master Wu had not anticipated that Yang Haoran had summoned him today for this particular matter, he immediately accepted the task without the slightest hesitation, and moreover, offered Yang Haoran his assurance.

“I'm at ease with your work. So, this matter will be your responsibility from now on, and I can free up my time for other things. ”

Yang Haoran said with a smile. When he was still merely an Emissary of Death in Lecheng, all the trivial matters, big and small, were entrusted to Old Master Wu, and never once had a single oversight occurred. He believed this time would be no different.

“Boss, just leave it to me. This subordinate will not let you down. ”

Old Master Wu offered his assurance once more, while Yang Haoran nodded with a smile, then inquired about another matter with Old Master Wu.

“Heh heh, how have my friend Guan Hai and his wife been doing lately? ”

In truth, Yang Haoran already had the answer in his heart when he asked this question. Although Guan Hai and his wife were just ordinary people, everyone who had followed him from the earliest days knew that Guan Hai was his close friend. Therefore, there was no doubt that Guan Hai and his wife would live very comfortably in Lecheng. His asking Old Master Wu about this now was purely out of genuine concern, with no worry mixed in.

“Brother Guan has been doing very well. Although he and his wife don't want any special treatment and work under the arrangements of the Administrative Courtyard, the Administrative Courtyard secretly provides them with a lot of care. Furthermore, their safety is still Xiaoyu's responsibility, with twenty-four-hour protection. ”

Old Master Wu answered with a smile. Although this answer didn't come as a surprise to Yang Haoran, he was still very comforted to receive an affirmative reply from Old Master Wu.

“Heh heh, it's good that there are no problems. I'll be leaving the Guardian District in a while, so please keep a close eye on the two of them for me. While I'm away, if anything major happens, you can contact me via Communication Talisman, or you can discuss and handle it with Bai Xue and Zhu Rong. ”

Yang Haoran spoke with a faint smile. As soon as Old Master Wu heard these words, his expression, which had remained unchanged until now, finally showed some alteration.

“Boss is leaving? The Guardian District has only just begun to establish itself. If you leave now. . . ”

Old Master Wu did not continue speaking, but Yang Haoran could guess what Old Master Wu had wanted to say next.

“Heh heh, there's no other way. The situation in our Ninth District is too grim right now. For some cities facing their current predicaments, ordinary support will struggle to turn the tide. So, I have no choice but to go and handle things personally. Doing so will not only solve the problems but also ignite the fighting spirit of my Emissaries of Death. ”

His voice paused. Yang Haoran took a puff from his cigarette, then continued.

“My absence from the Guardian District will indeed have some impact on its development, but that impact won't be too great, because I trust that you all can develop this Guardian District of mine. As for whether anyone will come to cause trouble in the Guardian District, I'm not overly concerned about that either. After all, with Bai Xue and Ye Zhiqiu holding the fort here, taking over this Guardian District of mine won't be an easy task. ”

In truth, Yang Haoran wasn't truly too worried about the Guardian District's safety. Aside from the Demon King Bai Xue and the Three-star Demon Hunter Ye Zhiqiu, he also had Tang Shi, a Ghost King, stationed in Lecheng. Furthermore, Tang Shi's subordinates included a large number of Evil Spirits with extensive combat experience. If someone truly came to cause trouble at his Guardian District and Bai Xue and Ye Zhiqiu were no match for them, then he could still find a way for Tang Shi to intervene.

Of course, unless absolutely necessary, Yang Haoran would certainly not expose Tang Shi and his other ghostly subordinates openly. But if they truly reached a desperate situation, he would undoubtedly, and without hesitation, have Tang Shi support the Guardian District. He would simply change the method of support, ensuring, as much as possible, not to reveal the identities of Tang Shi and the other ghostly beings.

After listening to Yang Haoran's words, Old Master Wu pondered for a moment, then nodded gently.

“Boss is right. With Miss Bai Xue and Master Ye holding the fort in the Guardian District, ordinary people truly wouldn't dare to cause trouble. As for the Guardian District's development, since Boss trusts us so much, we naturally won't let you down. ”

The matter of Yang Haoran's imminent departure from the Guardian District was unknown to anyone other than Old Master Wu, because Yang Haoran had only informed Old Master Wu of this, without mentioning it to anyone else, let alone assembling his trusted subordinates for a meeting.

However, even Old Master Wu was unaware of which city he planned to go to after leaving the Guardian District, because Yang Haoran had not mentioned this to him either.

Before leaving the Guardian District, Yang Haoran had separately obtained a set of information from Shui Ling and Tang Shi. Both sets of data, however, pertained to the same individual. Carrying these two sets of information, he quietly departed from the Guardian District without anyone noticing.

When he stepped out of the spatial rift, no longer tearing through space to travel, he had already arrived at Tongyou City, one of the few large cities within his jurisdiction.

The information he had Tang Shi and Shui Ling collect separately before he left the Guardian District was all about Ding Tianhua, the Emissary of Death for Tongyou City's Underworld Office. After stepping out of the spatial rift, the first thing he did was not to seek out Emissary of Death Ding Tianhua, but rather to retrieve these two sets of information from his independent space. He then began to carefully peruse them while approaching the location of Tongyou City's urban area.

His current location was not within Tongyou City's urban area, but rather in a desolate, remote place within Tongyou City's territory. The reason he chose to arrive here instead of directly appearing in the urban area was, naturally, to avoid startling his target.

As for why he chose Tongyou City as his first stop after leaving the Guardian District, there were many factors involved.

Tongyou City was one of the few large cities in his Ninth District, and this was no secret throughout the entire Ninth District. It was precisely for this reason that Tongyou City had been marked as a target by hostile forces. Once Tongyou City was captured, it would undoubtedly have a tremendous impact on his Ninth District. If all the major cities in his Ninth District were taken, then his Ninth District would exist in name only.

However, the strength of Tongyou City's Emissaries of Death was not to be underestimated. For many years, Tongyou City's Underworld Office had shown no signs of decline; in fact, it had consistently maintained its position as the foremost power in Tongyou City. Much of this was due to the efforts of Ding Tianhua, the Emissary of Death for Tongyou City. Because Ding Tianhua was a seasoned Emissary of Death, and his strength had reached the formidable mid-stage Earth Soul realm, for a long time, neither Spirit Mediums nor any other forces discontent with the Underworld Office dared to cause trouble for Tongyou City, much less directly confront Ding Tianhua. This was why Tongyou City's Underworld Office had always firmly held its position as the top power in Tongyou City, with other factions having to defer to Ding Tianhua's authority.

This time, however, was an exception. The Spirit Mediums not only attacked Tongyou City, but they did so with considerable force. Initially, Ding Tianhua didn't take it seriously, as he was very confident in his own strength. He believed that if the Spirit Mediums dared to come to Tongyou City to cause him trouble, they were simply courting death.

However, reality slapped him hard in the face. Against the Spirit Mediums' fierce assault, he initially managed to hold his ground, but as more and more Spirit Medium experts arrived as reinforcements, combined with other factions in Tongyou City, who had long been suppressed by the Underworld Office, secretly stirring up trouble, he not only failed to eliminate the incoming enemies but ended up severely wounded. As for the Tongyou City Underworld Office he led, its losses were even more devastating.

The harsh reality served as a wake-up call, shaking Ding Tianhua out of his arrogance and conceit. He understood that relying solely on his own strength, Ding Tianhua, he simply could not win this battle, so he thought of seeking assistance.

However, initially, he did not seek assistance from Yang Haoran. Instead, he used Communication Talismans to request support from his friends and the Emissaries of Death in neighboring cities. But the results were far from ideal. While some did provide him with a certain amount of support, it was merely a drop in the bucket, serving little to no purpose.

This category of people was still considered acceptable; after all, they had at least provided him with some resources. However, there was another category of people—those he considered his close friends—who, in this situation, hadn't even sent a single soldier to Tongyou City. They had simply chosen to ignore his pleas for assistance, which made him furious, yet utterly helpless.

Finally, when he truly couldn't hold out any longer, he resorted to sending a plea for help to Yang Haoran through the Underworld Iron Tome. This plea, however, was extremely reluctant. If he had any other choice, he absolutely would not have sought assistance from Yang Haoran.
