Chapter 1282: Flock of Demons Society, Medicine God Society
Yang Haoran decided to assign positions to his trusted subordinates, or to adjust their previous roles. The main purpose, naturally, was to ensure that future work could be carried out more quickly and effectively.
Yang Haoran made no changes to Zhu Rong's position; she remained the chief of the Gu Mo City Administrative Courtyard, managing all official affairs that Lecheng should handle.
Under an abundance of resources, Zhu Rong had now also opened her Heaven Soul. However, Yang Haoran did not use his authority to appoint Zhu Rong as an Emissary of Death. He actually wanted to, because doing so would have a benefit: it would allow Zhu Rong's physical body to be transformed by the rules of Heaven and Earth, granting her a body that would not naturally die.
His decision not to do so naturally had its reasons. It wasn't that he didn't trust Zhu Rong; rather, Zhu Rong's current public identity was that of Lecheng's Administrative Chief. Precisely because of this status, he had not appointed Zhu Rong as an Emissary of Death, nor had he altered her physical body. According to his current plans, he had other arrangements for Zhu Rong.
Everyone has a love for beauty, and Zhu Rong was no exception. Although she did not become an Emissary of Death, thus gaining a body immune to natural death and aging, Yang Haoran still bestowed upon her a Beauty-Retaining Pill. While the pill couldn't make her revert to youth, it could at least prevent her appearance from aging with the passage of time.
Of course, while taking the Beauty-Retaining Pill meant her appearance wouldn't age, her physical body would still age and eventually die. Yang Haoran had long considered this point, but as long as Zhu Rong's loyalty to him remained unwavering, he would not let her truly reach the point of dying of old age.
After much consideration regarding the Lecheng Underworld Division, Yang Haoran decided to continue entrusting its management to Old Master Wu. After all, for many years, the Lecheng Underworld Division had been looked after by Old Master Wu, and even when Yang Haoran was still Lecheng's Emissary of Death, it was Old Master Wu who handled all the various trivial matters. Old Master Wu managed the Lecheng Underworld Division exceptionally well, so Yang Haoran ultimately decided to let him continue overseeing it.
Bai Xue had been a Spirit Police officer at the Lecheng Administrative Courtyard for a long time, and had held the position of captain for quite some time as well. However, Yang Haoran now made an adjustment to Bai Xue's role. He transferred Bai Xue out of the Spirit Police and established a separate Flock of Demons Society. Bai Xue, as a Demon King, would serve as its president, while the Great Demon Huang Sha would be the vice-president.
Now, the entire Lecheng was under his control, including the Lecheng Administrative Courtyard. The troubles that Bai Xue's identity might bring were now, if not completely eliminated, significantly lessened compared to before. This was because his own status had undergone earth-shattering changes. Furthermore, he had long wished to establish a special organization comprised of demons under his command, so after careful consideration this time, he simply transferred Bai Xue out of the Spirit Police and established a separate special organization named the Flock of Demons Society.
Since its establishment, the Lecheng Administrative Courtyard had never hired demons to serve as Spirit Police officers. In the eyes of most people, demons were always demons, and they also fed on humans. Therefore, the vast majority of people held strong prejudices against demons, even outright hostility. Consequently, the Administrative Courtyard would simply not hire demons to become Spirit Police. It was only with Bai Xue's addition that this phenomenon was broken.
During her tenure as Spirit Police captain, and at Yang Haoran's behest, Bai Xue had recruited many demons to become members of the Spirit Police. Although these demons were generally minor creatures, their considerable numbers still represented a formidable force. Moreover, given enough resources, these minor demons could also become Great Demons, or even Demon Kings like Bai Xue.
With Yang Haoran establishing the Flock of Demons Society, all the minor demons Bai Xue had recruited would be transferred out of the Spirit Police and become members of the Flock of Demons Society. Thus, even though the Flock of Demons Society was newly formed, it wouldn't consist solely of Bai Xue and Huang Sha.
As Bai Xue was a Spirit Police captain being transferred out, a new Spirit Police captain would certainly need to be promoted. Yang Haoran did not intervene in this matter, instead leaving it to Administrative Chief Zhu Rong. After all, the Spirit Police force currently had a considerable number of members; even without Captain Bai Xue and the demons she recruited, there were still many Spirit Police officers. Among them, there were certainly strong individuals, so promoting a new captain wouldn't be a difficult task.
In addition to establishing the Flock of Demons Society, Bai Xue would no longer need to constantly ensure Zhu Rong's safety in the future. On one hand, Lecheng was now quite safe; on the other hand, Zhu Rong's current strength was not bad, and it would be impossible to launch a sneak attack or assassination against her without a certain level of power.
Therefore, after much consideration, Yang Haoran made this decision. If Bai Xue were to continue protecting Zhu Rong twenty-four hours a day, Bai Xue would become very passive, and her own work would be difficult to carry out.
Of course, Bai Xue had no objections to Yang Haoran's arrangements. Whether it was the establishment of the Flock of Demons Society or no longer protecting Zhu Rong, she not only had no complaints but was actually quite happy.
Huang Sha had even fewer objections to Yang Haoran's arrangements. Furthermore, he was keenly aware that Yang Haoran's decision was a sign of his high regard. After all, making him vice-president of the Flock of Demons Society right after its establishment—how could Yang Haoran have made such a decision if he didn't value him?
Huang Sha knew that this matter was an excellent opportunity for him, as well as a larger stage than he had in Gu Mo City previously. As long as he seized this chance and demonstrated his capabilities on this stage, he would undoubtedly gain more trust and appreciation from Yang Haoran. Therefore, just like Bai Xue, he had no objections to Yang Haoran's arrangements; instead, he was exceedingly happy in his heart.
Zhu Rong also had no objections, as they were fundamentally a single collective. No matter how things shifted, they were all on the same side, and if any real trouble arose, they naturally wouldn't stand by idly.
What's more, when Bai Xue was the Spirit Police captain, she, as the Administrative Chief, found her difficult to manage. After all, Bai Xue was Yang Haoran's confidante, and Yang Haoran held her in high esteem. Bai Xue herself always acted on impulse when dealing with Yang Haoran, let alone when facing her, the Administrative Chief.
Therefore, with Bai Xue transferred out of the Spirit Police, she could now fully promote a new captain based on her own ideas and needs. This way, she could better manage the Spirit Police department and facilitate the future development of their work. Thus, she was equally happy about Yang Haoran's decision.
Yang Haoran also made arrangements for Lu Wu and Shui Ling. He brought them from Gu Mo City to Lecheng, along with the Night Watchers under their command. If he didn't have special plans for them, he wouldn't have bothered to do so.
Although Lu Wu wasn't much of a thinker, he was exceptionally valiant. Not only was he brave, but the Night Watchers he led were equally courageous, like fierce beasts. It was precisely his valor that Yang Haoran admired.
The Guardian District was vast, so it naturally required protection. This protection wasn't about absolute security, but rather routine safeguarding—for instance, dealing with petty troublemakers who secretly infiltrated the Guardian District, or handling those who came to cause a disturbance but weren't significant enough to warrant intervention from the Guardian District's top figures.
Yang Haoran felt that assigning this task to Lu Wu and the First Division he led was perfectly fitting. Therefore, Yang Haoran decided that Lu Wu and his First Division would henceforth be responsible for protecting the Guardian District and maintaining its order. This was the primary, and indeed sole, mission for Lu Wu and the First Division. Of course, this excluded special circumstances where extra personnel might be needed for emergencies.
As for Shui Ling and the Second Division she led, their main tasks were intelligence gathering and assassination. The nature of this work was actually not much different from that of the Myriad Ghost Grotto. However, besides Yang Haoran himself, no one knew that he had an organization like the Myriad Ghost Grotto under his command. If he didn't openly establish an intelligence agency, it would certainly arouse suspicion. Therefore, even though the nature of Shui Ling's Second Division's work was very similar to the Myriad Ghost Grotto, he still had to establish such an intelligence agency.
Both Lu Wu's First Division and Shui Ling's Second Division did not belong to the Lecheng Underworld Division. Instead, they belonged to the Guardian District and reported solely to Yang Haoran, their Guardian.
Feng Xiao was still in seclusion, so she did not attend today's meeting, but Yang Haoran had not forgotten her.
Yang Haoran established the Flock of Demons Society for Bai Xue, Huang Sha, and other demons. At the same time, he also founded an organization called the Medicine God Society for his Pharmacists.
The reason for naming it the Medicine God Society was that "Medicine God" represented the highest realm in the profession of a Pharmacist. Although "Medicine God" was merely a realm and didn't signify the actual existence of a deity, within the Pharmacist system, this realm stood at the pinnacle of the pyramid. It was the supreme realm countless Pharmacists yearned for. Yang Haoran used the two characters "Medicine God" in the name, in essence, to subtly motivate his Pharmacists.
Yang Haoran appointed Feng Xiao as the president of the Medicine God Society, and Xiang Chuan as the vice-president. Xiang Chuan was somewhat displeased with Yang Haoran's arrangement, because he was merely a deputy, while Feng Xiao held the principal position.
However, considering that Feng Xiao was now striving to break through to the Medicine Sect realm, and regardless of whether her breakthrough succeeded this time, it was not something he, Xiang Chuan, could currently compare to. Therefore, even though he felt some dissatisfaction about merely being a vice-president, he still chose to accept.
In addition, there was another issue that caused Xiang Chuan some displeasure: their newly established Medicine God Society currently consisted of only two people – Feng Xiao, the president, and himself, Xiang Chuan, the vice-president. As president, Feng Xiao at least had him, a vice-president, under her. But as a vice-president, he didn't even have a single subordinate. How could he possibly be satisfied!
