Chapter 1245: Swarming the Underworld

A few days ago, Yun Yao was in secluded cultivation, practicing a Ghost Art. To avoid external disturbances and affecting her cultivation progress, she even left her Underworld Iron Tome outside her secluded training area.

Because of this, she was initially unaware of the major events happening in the Yin Division recently. It wasn't until today, when she idly perused her Underworld Iron Tome, that she learned of the many recent occurrences within the Yin Division.

Two events particularly caught her attention: one was Luo Yao becoming the newly appointed Great Emperor of Jingling Continent's Yin Division, and the other was the Jingling Continent Yin Division holding a martial arts competition at the end of the month to select two Guardians to fill the two vacant Guardian positions.

Both of these major events surprised Yun Yao, especially Luo Yao becoming the new Jingling Great Emperor. This matter surprised Yun Yao the most because she knew Luo Yao. He had previously been inconspicuous, seemingly unremarkable, but she never expected him to hide his strength so deeply, managing to successfully seize the position of Great Emperor this time.

Although Yun Yao didn't witness the specific process of Luo Yao's struggle for the Great Emperor's position, it was obvious that it couldn't have been simple.

Compared to Luo Yao becoming the new Jingling Great Emperor, the Jingling Continent Yin Division holding a martial arts competition to select Guardians at the end of the month brought her less surprise. After all, this was a competition for the Jingling Continent Yin Division, and she belonged to Qingshan Continent. This matter had nothing to do with her, and selecting Guardians wasn't selecting a Great Emperor, so in her opinion, there was nothing surprising about it.

However, she then remembered that Yang Haoran was also a Soul-Sower from Jingling Continent, so with curiosity in her heart, she murmured to herself while using the Underworld Iron Tome to look up information about Yang Haoran.

But the result left her deeply disappointed, because there was very little information about Yang Haoran available in the Underworld Iron Tome. Apart from some basic personal details, it only stated where Yang Haoran had served as a Soul-Sower and where he was currently stationed. There was no record of Yang Haoran's strength realm or his administrative achievements in the Underworld Iron Tome.

It was precisely for this reason that Yun Yao showed a look of disappointment on her face when she put away the Underworld Iron Tome.

"That honest fellow has only been a Soul-Sower for a few years. Logically, his strength shouldn't be that great. For this martial arts competition held by the Jingling Continent Yin Division, Soul-Sowers must have opened both their Heaven and Earth Souls as a strict condition. It seems he probably won't have a chance to participate."

Yun Yao thought, resting a hand on her chin and furrowing her brows. But then, her large eyes suddenly lit up. She thought of Yang Haoran's Stillness Apothecary in the Underworld.

"I don't think it's impossible for that honest fellow to have opened both his Heaven and Earth Souls. His apothecary business in the Underworld is quite good, and that female shop assistant's appraisal methods are remarkable. She must have created considerable wealth for him, and all that wealth consists of genuine Soul Pills. His strength is definitely not comparable to that of other ordinary Soul-Sowers."

Yun Yao felt that her guess was not entirely unfounded. Thinking this, a smile bloomed on her face.

"Anyway, I have nothing going on. I'll go to the Underworld at the end of the month to take a look, and while I'm there, I'll exchange some souls for Soul Pills and then sell some other things. That should be enough to meet my recent cultivation needs."

Since Bamboo Sea City was very stable, with no demons or ghosts causing trouble and no other cities attacking, the souls Yun Yao collected were almost entirely from people who had died naturally in Bamboo Sea City. Her Night Watchers would occasionally subdue some formidable ghostly entities, but their number was very small. This meant that each time she went to the Underworld to submit souls, the quantity wasn't large, not significantly different from before the world fell into chaos.

Therefore, to obtain the Soul Pills required for her cultivation, she had to think of other methods. Relying solely on submitting souls and the Soul Pills from her salary was certainly enough to satisfy her Night Watchers, but if she wanted to satisfy her own needs, it was far from enough.

If it were other people in Yun Yao's situation, they might be downcast. After all, if an Underworld official wants to grow stronger, Soul Pills are a necessity. Without Soul Pills, how could one improve their own strength, and how could their subordinates improve theirs?

Soul-Sowers in other cities, though their lives were constantly threatened, harvested astonishing numbers of souls, and the amount of Soul Pills they could acquire at that level of power was also astonishing. This certainly made people envious.

Yun Yao, however, wasn't downcast, but she was somewhat tired of such peaceful days.

Standing up, Yun Yao stretched languidly, then walked to the edge of the bamboo building, looking down at Bamboo Sea City, admiring the beautiful scenery that seemed to belong only in a painting.

"This won't do in the long run. Constantly taking things to the Underworld to exchange for New Beginning Coins and Soul Pills will eventually deplete my family's wealth. When that happens, the old man will surely beat me to death. Although Bamboo Sea City is nice, the gains here can't keep up with my consumption. It seems I need to transfer. I'll find a more chaotic city to fully display my abilities, and let that old man see what I'm capable of. As for Bamboo Sea City, I'll come back to retire here when I eventually get tired of it."

Yun Yao spoke with a relaxed smile on her face, showing no trace of pressure. After these words left her lips, she made her decision.

"After submitting the souls at the end of the month, I, this young lady, will move to a different place. As for where, I'll see then. I'll go wherever it's chaotic. The New Beginning Realm is so vast, I don't believe I can't find a city that satisfies me, hehe."

By the end of her speech, Yun Yao seemed to have already envisioned her exciting future life, and couldn't help but let out a laugh.

...

Days passed, but the news of the Jingling Continent Yin Division holding a martial arts competition to select two Guardians did not fade. Instead, as time went by, the matter grew increasingly fervent.

Not only were the Underworld officials of Jingling Continent highly concerned about this, but many Underworld officials from other continents also paid close attention.

The difference was that some of the Jingling Continent's Underworld officials were there to watch the excitement, while others intended to participate in the competition. The Underworld officials from other continents, however, were purely there for the spectacle.

This event not only caused a sensation throughout the entire Yin Division, but other forces also became aware of it and paid close attention. However, since these other forces could not enter the Underworld, their attention could only be manifested through some irregular means.

As the competition date drew nearer, the Underworld became livelier day by day, as large numbers of Underworld officials arrived from all over the world daily. This bustling scene was previously only seen at specific times; although the Underworld was usually lively, it had never reached this level.

The vast majority of these Underworld officials who arrived early were from the Jingling Continent Yin Division. Their reason for coming to the Underworld in advance was naturally to prepare for the competition.

There were also some Underworld officials who, besides wanting to join in the excitement of the month-end competition, also had some errands to run in the Underworld, and thus arrived early.

Due to the large number of Underworld officials from the mortal realm swarming into the Underworld in a short period, the businesses of various shops in the Underworld also thrived. Yang Haoran's Stillness Apothecary in the Underworld was especially overcrowded, its business unbelievably good.

However, sometimes, too much good business can also attract trouble.
