Chapter 1211: A Gift of Friendship
Initially, Yang Haoran had believed that in this world, only Yin Division agents and ghosts could achieve true longevity. But as his power grew and he encountered more and more phenomena, he realized he had been mistaken.
It was true that the physical bodies of Yin Division agents in the mortal realm did not naturally age and die. The reason for this was that the Yin Division controlled the Underworld’s Reincarnation Platform, allowing them to manipulate the rules of Heaven and Earth to alter the constitution of Yin Division agents, thereby preventing their physical bodies from natural death.
As for Ghost Officials, they were essentially ghosts; they had no physical bodies to begin with, so there was naturally no concept of their bodies dying. Only when their power reached the Ghost King realm could they re-condense a physical body. However, their physical bodies were vastly different from those of Yin Division agents, as they could be dispersed and then re-condensed, something Yin Division agents' bodies could not do.
Nevertheless, one point remained the same for both: their physical bodies would not naturally die.
Besides Yin Division agents and ghosts, there were two other circumstances that could prevent a physical body from natural death.
The first was achieving a certain level of power, gaining the recognition of Heaven and Earth, and having one's physical body transformed by the rules of Heaven and Earth, thereby acquiring a body that would not naturally die.
The second was consuming some heaven-defying Dānyào or rare heavenly treasures, which could similarly bestow a body that would not naturally die.
The first situation was extremely difficult to achieve; calling it one in ten thousand would be an understatement.
To date, these were the only methods Yang Haoran knew for preventing a physical body from natural death. As for whether other methods existed, he couldn't say yes, nor could he say no.
However, one thing could be confirmed with absolute certainty: very few people in the entire New Beginning Realm possessed bodies that would not naturally die, while many people required various external items to extend their lives. Therefore, a treasure like the Deep Sea Snow Jade, capable of prolonging life, was indeed an invaluable artifact.
However, as soon as Yun Yao heard that the Deep Sea Snow Jade's greatest effect was merely to extend life, the look of anticipation on her face immediately vanished, replaced by an expression of disappointment.
"I thought it was some amazing treasure, but it turns out to be useless to me. Oh, what a pity."
Yun Yao shook her head and sighed, clearly quite dissatisfied with the Deep Sea Snow Jade.
"Master Yin Division agent, while this Deep Sea Snow Jade may indeed hold little value in your eyes, to those who need it, its value is as great as their own lives. So, even if you don't need it, you can sell it to someone who does, or exchange it for something you desire."
Gu Yi noticed the disappointment on Yun Yao's face and offered a smiling suggestion. Had it not been for Yun Yao being a friend of Yang Haoran, she would never have meddled; she would have simply collected the appraisal fee and sent the guest away, not wasting her precious time on them.
Yun Yao sighed again, then seemed to come to a realization, her smile returning.
"Oh well, it seems that's all there is to it. This trip wasn't a wasted effort after all; at least this item is still a treasure, even if I can't use it."
Yun Yao took the Deep Sea Snow Jade that Gu Yi handed her, then stood up and looked at Yang Haoran.
"Honest fellow, is it really free?"
Yun Yao playfully shook the Deep Sea Snow Jade in her hand and seriously asked Yang Haoran, who nodded affirmingly.
"A gentleman's word, even a dead horse couldn't catch up to it. Since I said it's free, it's definitely free. Besides, aren't we friends?"
Yun Yao, who had been serious a moment ago, burst into a giggle at Yang Haoran's words.
"Haha, even a dead horse couldn't catch up to it—a dead horse truly can't be chased. But you're right, we are indeed friends. I have things to do, so I'll be leaving first. You're surely going to be busy soon, so I won't delay your time."
With those words, Yun Yao prepared to leave, but Yang Haoran stopped her.
"Heh heh, just a moment, Little Miss."
Yun Yao paused, then looked at Yang Haoran with a full smile.
"What? Regretting it already?"
Yang Haoran's smile didn't waver as he gently shook his head.
"Heh heh, I never go back on my word to friends."
Hearing this, Yun Yao's face showed a puzzled expression.
"Then why did you stop me?"
No sooner had the words left her mouth than Yun Yao suddenly remembered something, and an expression of realization immediately appeared on her face.
"Oh! I know, you want my contact information, right? Of course, I have no problem giving you my contact information, but the world is in chaos now, and almost all communication facilities in the entire New Beginning Realm have been destroyed. Mobile phones are practically useless. Even if I give you my contact information, it's no use. Underworld phones can be used, but only if both of us are in the Underworld. Once either of us is in the mortal realm, Underworld phones can't reach the other party either. This. . . that truly is a troublesome matter."
Yun Yao's imagination was truly wild, which made Yang Haoran feel a slight awkwardness, as what he was thinking was completely different from what Yun Yao was saying.
To prevent Yun Yao from continuing her imaginative leaps, Yang Haoran quickly seized the moment her voice paused to speak.
"Heh heh, you've misunderstood me. The reason I stopped you was to ask if the Deep Sea Snow Jade in your hand is for sale?"
Yun Yao was startled, then quickly reacted.
"Huh? You weren't asking for my contact information?"
Yang Haoran didn't dare to engage with Yun Yao's question. If he did, he didn't know where Yun Yao would take the conversation next. He had witnessed her talent in that regard today, and he believed Yun Yao was perfectly capable of it.
"Of course, exchanging it is also an option. Whether it's a Soul Pill, Dānyào, or other items, as long as I have them, they can be used for exchange."
Yang Haoran chose to give an indirect answer, forcefully steering the conversation back from contact methods to the Deep Sea Snow Jade.
Yun Yao gave Yang Haoran a slightly displeased, dismissive look, then asked, puzzled, "We're both Yin Division agents. Isn't this Deep Sea Snow Jade just as useless to you?"
Faced with Yun Yao's confusion, Yang Haoran was about to explain, but Yun Yao didn't give him the chance.
"Forget it, I'm too lazy to ask. Since you need it, just take it. Anyway, this useless stone is of no use to me."
With that, Yun Yao casually tossed the Deep Sea Snow Jade towards Yang Haoran.
This scene startled not only Gu Yi but also gave Yang Haoran a shock.
One had to understand that the Deep Sea Snow Jade was a rare treasure. While it might be useless to them as Yin Division agents, that didn't negate its value. Yet Yun Yao treated it with such disregard, tossing it like an ordinary piece of jade. If he hadn't been careful and it had fallen to the ground, this priceless treasure would have been ruined.
Fortunately, Yang Haoran reacted quickly enough, reaching out to catch the Deep Sea Snow Jade, preventing this priceless treasure from crashing to the ground.
Although he successfully caught the Deep Sea Snow Jade, Yang Haoran's heart still trembled slightly. This Deep Sea Snow Jade was too important to him. If it had truly shattered like that, he had no idea how much time it would take to find another one. Perhaps by the time he did, the grass on the grave of the person he wished to help would already be a meter high.
"No need to buy it, and no need to exchange anything with me. Since we're friends, I'll just give you this useless stone. Consider it a friendship gift for our first meeting."
Yun Yao said, a smile returning to her face.
Yang Haoran truly hadn't expected Yun Yao to be so generous, leaving him momentarily at a loss for what to do.
Seeing Yang Haoran standing there dumbfounded, looking utterly bewildered, Yun Yao's smile deepened a few shades.
"Men, be decisive. If I say it's for you, just take it quickly. Don't be so wishy-washy like a woman; it'll lower my impression of you."
Yang Haoran had originally intended to refuse, but hearing Yun Yao's words, he abandoned that idea.
He didn't refuse, nor did he engage in polite formalities. Instead, he simply smiled and placed the Deep Sea Snow Jade into his spatial storage.
As the Deep Sea Snow Jade vanished, something else immediately appeared above his palm: a porcelain bottle, about the size of an adult's fist.
"Heh heh, since you're so generous, I certainly can't be stingy."
Yang Haoran said with a chuckle, then gently waved his hand. A surge of Yin Qi enveloped the porcelain bottle, stably sending it floating in front of Yun Yao, where it hovered silently in mid-air.
