Chapter 1140: Corpse King (Part 2)
Before the Door Master of the Corpse Sect could successfully escape from the area, his body was suddenly bound by a force, rendering him utterly unable to move.
His body froze in place, and his expression instantly twisted. He knew very well why his body had suddenly been bound; he could have figured it out with his toes—it must have been Wan Wu Yi making his move against him.
A period of time had passed since he had taken the dānyào, so by now, both the power within his body and his injuries had recovered significantly. Faced with this situation, he didn't hesitate for a moment, immediately mobilizing the power within his body, intent on breaking free from the restraints Wan Wu Yi had imposed upon him.
A surge of powerful energy erupted from his body, and he was instantly enveloped by a visible grayish-white light. Yet, the very instant this grayish-white power manifested, a thick blood mist simultaneously emerged.
The blood mist roiled, and hideous human faces flickered in and out of sight within its depths. The Door Master of the Corpse Sect's body trembled as he directed his power to attack the blood mist. The two forces intertwined, but far from gaining the advantage, the Door Master's power was instead firmly suppressed by the blood mist.
"Door Master of the Corpse Sect, your meticulous plan was truly excellent. It's just a pity, you underestimated me, Wan Wu Yi. If I were so easily ensnared by your tricks, then I wouldn't be Wan Wu Yi at all."
Wan Wu Yi's cold sneer drifted from behind him, and anxiety bloomed on the Door Master of the Corpse Sect's face. He sensed an intense killing intent in Wan Wu Yi's words, and if he didn't quickly break free from his current predicament, then only one outcome awaited him: death!
He didn't respond to Wan Wu Yi; in such a situation, he had no spare time to do so. He poured all his effort into controlling his power, intent only on shattering the binds on his body before Wan Wu Yi could strike.
Five fingers splayed open, a crimson beam of light shot forth from Wan Wu Yi's palm, hurtling rapidly towards the Door Master of the Corpse Sect's chest.
The Door Master of the Corpse Sect's face twisted in alarm. In the current situation, let alone his body being bound, even if he weren't restrained, successfully dodging would have been difficult. After all, the distance between Wan Wu Yi and him was simply too close; how could it be so simple to successfully evade this strike?
The outcome was self-evident. Without a single unexpected deviation, Wan Wu Yi's strike successfully landed on the Door Master of the Corpse Sect.
BOOM! ! !
Wan Wu Yi's strike was incredibly powerful; it not only dispersed the blood mist enveloping the Door Master of the Corpse Sect's body but also shattered the grayish-white power he had unleashed. The Door Master of the Corpse Sect was sent hurtling backward by this force, crashing into a stone wall with such immense impact that his entire body became embedded within it.
Urgh!
The Door Master of the Corpse Sect coughed up a large mouthful of fresh blood. His body, which had only just begun to recover, was instantly battered back to its original weakened state after taking that single blow.
Although Wan Wu Yi's strike had dispersed the blood mist that enveloped the Door Master of the Corpse Sect's body, restoring his freedom of movement, the damage inflicted upon him was considerable. His chest had even caved in, leaving the Door Master of the Corpse Sect utterly incapable of rejoicing, despite his newfound liberation.
Without a moment to wipe the blood from the corner of his mouth, the Door Master of the Corpse Sect, having just coughed up blood, immediately struggled to break free from the stone wall, not daring to waste even a single second.
Wan Wu Yi gave a cold smirk. He made a grasping motion in the air towards the Door Master of the Corpse Sect, and a colossal blood-red hand condensed into being, seizing the Door Master's body in one swift motion before forcibly tearing him out of the stone wall.
At the same time, an enraged roar echoed as the furious Corpse Ghoul chased him from behind. Seeing this, Wan Wu Yi's cold smirk deepened.
"What I desire is a true Corpse King, not some half-baked version. Your strength is considerable; if it gnaws on you, its master, do you think it could successfully break through to the Corpse King realm?"
Wan Wu Yi's words made the Door Master of the Corpse Sect's body involuntarily tremble. His face instantly turned ashen white like paper, utterly devoid of color.
"Wan Wu Yi! Let's talk this through! I'm worth more alive!"
A cold smirk still lingered on Wan Wu Yi's face. He had already made his decision, utterly disregarding the Door Master of the Corpse Sect. With a flick of his arm, the blood-red giant hand flung the Door Master of the Corpse Sect towards the rampaging Corpse Ghoul.
The Corpse Ghoul's fury stemmed largely from having been sealed in this place by the Door Master of the Corpse Sect. So, seeing the Door Master hurtling towards its position now, it had no intention of dodging, let alone saving its former master. Instead, filled with seething rage, it directly pounced upon the Door Master of the Corpse Sect, like a hungry beast leaping onto its prey.
The Door Master of the Corpse Sect attempted to dodge, but in this situation, he found himself willing but unable. Though he forcefully tried to evade in mid-air, his attempt failed. His dodge was too hasty, and coupled with the Corpse Ghoul's astonishing speed, he ultimately couldn't escape, plummeting directly to the ground beneath the creature's pounce.
"No! Don't! ! !"
Terrified screams ripped from the Door Master of the Corpse Sect's throat. In that moment, he had no mind to care about his status; he only knew he didn't want to die, that he still wished to live. Thus, confronted by death, he instinctively displayed the profound terror within his heart.
However, his desperate cries had no effect whatsoever. Wan Wu Yi made no move to save him, and the Corpse Ghoul that had tackled him certainly didn't stop. On the contrary, after pinning him down, the Corpse Ghoul immediately opened its large mouth, bristling with sharp fangs, and bit down on his neck.
A piercing shriek echoed as the Door Master of the Corpse Sect desperately struggled. Yet, his resistance seemed utterly futile before this Corpse Ghoul. Though he was the Door Master of the Corpse Sect of Gu Mo City, he was no match for this particular Corpse Ghoul, and with his injuries, how could he possibly break free from its jaws?
The horrifying shriek came to an abrupt, chilling halt. The Door Master of the Corpse Sect's neck had been bitten clean through by the Corpse Ghoul, and it was precisely this that silenced his terrified, agonizing cries so suddenly.
After biting its master, the Door Master of the Corpse Sect, to death in a single snap, the Corpse Ghoul didn't cease. Instead, it ravenously tore into the Door Master's corpse, gnawing with gluttonous ferocity. From time to time, it would let out a guttural roar, yet this roar was not one of anger, but of unbridled satisfaction.
Perhaps it was because this Corpse Ghoul had been sealed here for too long, leaving it ravenously hungry. Or perhaps the flesh and blood of its master, the Door Master of the Corpse Sect, was simply too exquisite for its palate. In just a short while, the Door Master of the Corpse Sect was devoured almost entirely, leaving behind only a pile of white bones streaked with remnants of flesh and sinew.
The Corpse Ghoul rose, still seemingly unsatisfied, then flung the white bones from its grasp away like refuse. Immediately afterward, another roar of pure satisfaction ripped from its throat.
As its roar echoed, the power fluctuations emanating from its body intensified at an astonishing rate. Wan Wu Yi watched this scene, and an expression of pure excitement involuntarily bloomed on his face.
Earlier, when the Corpse Ghoul had been devouring the Door Master of the Corpse Sect's corpse, he hadn't intervened because this was precisely the outcome he desired. He hoped that after the Corpse Ghoul finished its gruesome meal, it would successfully advance to become a Corpse King.
Judging from the current situation, this Corpse Ghoul had clearly succeeded; this was evident from the constantly escalating power fluctuations emanating from its body. The reason Wan Wu Yi showed such an excited expression was that, in his view, he would immediately possess a Corpse King as his enforcer. How could he not be pleased with this?
Although he wasn't a member of the Corpse Sect and understood neither corpse refining nor corpse control, he possessed methods to make this zombie serve him, and he was highly confident in them. If he lacked even this much confidence, he wouldn't have gone to such lengths to seek out this zombie.
The power fluctuations emanating from the Corpse Ghoul's body grew increasingly intense, and its roar became ever more imposing. The entire underground space began to tremble violently beneath its furious bellows.
Beyond these two observations, one more detail about the Corpse Ghoul captured Wan Wu Yi's attention: its shriveled body was gradually plumping up. Even its wrinkled, repulsive skin seemed to have gained a new lease on life, actually beginning to regenerate. . .
