Chapter 1100: The Simple Wise Man

Xiang Chuan's words served as a reminder to Yang Haoran and the others. True to the Demon Cult's usual style, they truly wouldn't act with such extreme caution.

Xiang Chuan took in the expressions of everyone present. He knew his words had indeed had an effect on Yang Haoran and the others, and a smug smile deepened on his face.

Yang Haoran pondered for a moment, then spoke, reorganizing the arrangements for everyone present.

This matter made him sense something unusual, compelling him to revise his plans.

Any endeavor required a plan, but one must also understand flexibility. Being overly rigid was unacceptable; adapting to changing circumstances was crucial. Regardless of how a plan shifted, its sole purpose remained to achieve the desired outcome.

The current situation presented an unforeseen variable. If he didn't adjust his plan, achieving his desired result would prove exceedingly difficult.

It was akin to a game of chess: one had to employ their own strategies, but also know how to counter every move, all while setting the stage for their next play. Only then could victory be secured.

Yang Haoran's gaze fell on Xiang Chuan, and he first made arrangements for this most difficult-to-manage individual.

"For the time being, don't leave the Death God Temple. You'll hold down the fort for me here. Intervene when necessary, otherwise, do as you please, so long as you don't step outside the temple grounds. As for anything you might need, just tell me, and I'll find a way to get it for you."

For the past few days, Xiang Chuan had been running around with Yang Haoran, sometimes even having to tolerate others' expressions. This made him, a venerable Spirit Medicine, feel quite ill at ease. Yet, he dared not defy Yang Haoran's commands, so no matter how uncomfortable he felt, he could only endure it. Only when he truly couldn't stand it anymore would he utter a few complaints to Yang Haoran.

However, his complaints were always reserved for times when he was alone with Yang Haoran. He understood that in such private moments, Yang Haoran wouldn't get angry. Complaining in other, more public settings, was another matter entirely.

Yang Haoran's current arrangement perfectly suited his desires. He genuinely no longer wished to follow Yang Haoran on his errands, acting as a mere subordinate, running tasks, and enduring the disdainful looks of others. How could a dignified Spirit Medicine tolerate such indignity?

Remaining within the Death God Temple, however, was a different story entirely. Here, his status was extraordinary; aside from Yang Haoran, who would dare order him around? Not only would he no longer have to run errands as a servant, but he could even have others run errands for him. What wasn't there to like about that?

Furthermore, he could dedicate his time to researching his own medicines here. As a Spirit Medicine, only various wondrous elixirs held such profound allure for him; it was, after all, his passion.

Thus, upon hearing Yang Haoran's decision to keep him at the temple, he was overjoyed. As for the duty of guarding the temple, he didn't give it a second thought.

He was confident that should anything go awry at the temple, Yang Haoran, the Undertaker, would undoubtedly be more concerned than anyone else. After all, this was Yang Haoran's stronghold in Gu Mo City. Any trouble here would be a direct blow to Yang Haoran's "face. " From what he knew of Yang Haoran, there was no way he would permit such a thing to occur, so Xiang Chuan had no worries on that front whatsoever.

"Heh heh, Big Brother, rest assured," Xiang Chuan chuckled, promising Yang Haoran. "Your little brother will protect this temple perfectly, absolutely not allowing anyone to run wild within its grounds."

Yang Haoran could more or less guess what was on Xiang Chuan's mind, but he didn't expose him or pour cold water on his enthusiasm. He simply smiled and nodded, then shifted his gaze from Xiang Chuan to Yao Guozhi.

"Guozhi, this isn't Lecheng. For safety's sake, I intend to implant the Death God Seal within you. From that moment on, you will no longer be an ordinary person. However, this comes with both benefits and drawbacks. Once you become a Night Watcher, many of your actions will be bound by the laws of the Underworld Office, and you will be tied to me on the same boat for life, with no retreat. Are you willing?"

A look of delight spread across Yao Guozhi's face. Without a moment's hesitation, he immediately nodded vigorously at Yang Haoran.<spanstyle>谷</spanstyle>

"I am willing!"

Yao Guozhi was an intelligent man. He knew that merely possessing intellect was far from enough to survive in the current chaotic world; one also needed formidable strength. Without power to back up his wits, he would find himself in an extremely passive position during specific situations, and he certainly didn't believe his mind alone was capable of resolving every problem.

If he could wield power beyond the grasp of ordinary people, coupled with his keen intellect, he was convinced he could navigate this turbulent era with greater ease.

Before his transfer to Gu Mo City, Zhu Rong had already spoken to him about this: if an ordinary person wished to become extraordinary, joining the Underworld Office as a Night Watcher was undeniably one of the quickest routes. An Undertaker merely needed to implant the Death God Seal into an ordinary person's body, and they would instantly transform, gaining Spirit Power and departing from the ranks of ordinary mortals—it was simple and swift.

Furthermore, advancing one's strength after becoming a Night Watcher was equally straightforward: as long as there was enough Pure Yin Qi available for absorption and refinement, one's power would continuously increase.

Zhu Rong had also informed him that while his journey to Gu Mo City was fraught with peril, it also presented an immense opportunity. If he could seize it, transforming from an ordinary person into an extraordinary one was just one facet. Should he earn Yang Haoran's trust and be given significant responsibilities, then in the future, his status, position, and personal strength would all experience a terrifying surge.

He wholeheartedly believed Zhu Rong's words, trusting her discernment as much as his own. Since Zhu Rong had said it, it had to be true. He was determined to seize this opportunity!

It was precisely for this reason that during their journey to Gu Mo City, the continuous teleportations left his body in extreme discomfort. Yet, he gritted his teeth and persevered, never once asking Huang Sha to pause for a moment of rest. He remained silent even until he finally collapsed, unwilling to leave Yang Haoran with even the slightest negative impression.

After arriving in Gu Mo City, he worked tirelessly, forgetting to eat and sleep. His sole aim was to achieve results that would satisfy Yang Haoran in the shortest possible time.

In truth, his heart had always yearned to become extraordinary, to possess abilities beyond ordinary people. However, he hadn't voiced this request to Yang Haoran, feeling it would be inappropriate to ask his boss for such a favor before he had proven his worth. According to his plan, once he had achieved satisfactory results in Gu Mo City, he would then request Yang Haoran to implant the Death God Seal.

Now, with Yang Haoran proactively offering to implant the Death God Seal, it was an unexpected delight for him. Having always yearned to become extraordinary, how could he possibly refuse Yang Haoran?

As for the two drawbacks Yang Haoran had mentioned about becoming a Night Watcher, Yao Guozhi simply brushed them aside. Would becoming a Night Watcher mean being bound by the laws of the Underworld Office? The answer was undoubtedly yes.

But if he *didn't* become a Night Watcher, would his actions then be free from constraint? The answer was no. His behavior would still be constrained, just not by the laws of the Underworld Office. To him, it was essentially the same.

Furthermore, based on his understanding of Night Watchers, the Underworld Office actually didn't impose many restrictions on them. In the eyes of the Underworld Office, Night Watchers weren't considered true Underworld Agents at all; the Underworld Office regulated its genuine agents, not Night Watchers. Any constraints Night Watchers experienced came entirely from their direct Undertaker.

If he became a Night Watcher, he would be bound by Yang Haoran, his Undertaker. If he didn't, he would still be bound by Yang Haoran, his boss. It was essentially the same thing.

As for the other drawback Yang Haoran had mentioned, he paid it no mind either. For him, whether he became a Night Watcher or not, he was already tied to Yang Haoran on the same ship. He currently had no intention whatsoever of abandoning this great vessel; in fact, he aimed to secure his position upon it. Therefore, this point was, naturally, of no concern to him.

After receiving Yao Guozhi's firm and decisive affirmative, Yang Haoran wasted no words. He simply smiled and nodded, then, in front of everyone present, immediately implanted the Death God Seal into Yao Guozhi.
