Chapter 94: Rendezvous

"Dong, dong, dong..." The church bell in the small town chimed to mark the hour.

"It's already three in the afternoon, so soon. I wonder where they are now." Bai Mo continued to stroll aimlessly through the streets, habitually using his divine sense to scan his surroundings.

"One, two, three... There are a total of sixteen people nearby with Spirit Hubs. This ratio is still relatively normal."

Suddenly, Bai Mo seemed to discover something, and hurried towards the church.

"There's actually a nun here who has evolved a Life Field?" he thought to himself as he walked.

"Preaching?" Bai Mo paid no mind to the surprise of those around him regarding his Asian features, and sat in a corner to listen.

Her delicate features and beautiful golden hair attracted many of the town's young people, who stared intently at the nun. Yet, she seemed oblivious, continuing to tell stories from the Bible in a gentle tone.

The joyful time seemed to pass especially quickly. To the reluctance of the crowd, the nun stepped down from the pulpit. After descending, she began to walk towards Bai Mo. As the young men of the town watched their goddess approach a strange outsider, their gazes immediately turned somewhat hostile as they fixed on Bai Mo, who was seated in the corner.

"Sir." The nun said, stopping before Bai Mo.

"What is it?"

"My senses tell me you are a very dangerous person."

"Thank you for the compliment."

"Do you have faith?"

"Probably not."

"You are like a sharp blade, and faith is the most suitable sheath for it. It can protect you, and at the same time, protect everyone else," the nun said in a voice as clear as a silver bell.

"I'm starting to understand why many scientists in the past held devout beliefs. Whenever they encountered problems that stumped them despite arduous contemplation, they could find all the answers simply by invoking the omnipotent Him." Bai Mo's reply was clearly tangential.

The conversation between the two made the surrounding young men, who had initially harbored hostility, feel a sense of bewildered respect.

"Let's not discuss philosophy and faith anymore," Bai Mo said. "I'm just passing through this place. It's you who seems a bit out of place with your surroundings."

"After Rome was attacked, His Holiness the Pope ordered the Holy See to be moved to Milan, inland. Then, at the government's suggestion, our headquarters dispatched us to various places to stabilize the populace. I am responsible for this area."

"Thank you for the information."

"As long as you don't disrupt the stability of the town, that's fine."

"Beautiful nun, you continue your work, and I'll continue my journey. Oh, and one last question: is your ability mental suggestion? They seem too devout." Bai Mo asked, observing the people around them, most of whom had their eyes closed and joyful expressions.

"That's a secret." The nun smiled sweetly.

No sooner had she spoken than she felt a sudden gust of wind pass before her. A momentary warm touch brushed her forehead, and the sweat there was wiped away.

"It seems I guessed correctly, but there's no need to be so nervous. I, presumably, don't eat people." She only had time to hear that sentence before the man who had been before her eyes vanished.

"Why would I encounter a monster like this even in such a small town? According to the blood-scrying divine art newly granted by headquarters, this man's aura of bloodshed is already deep crimson, meaning he has personally killed at least a thousand people." The nun, unaware that these thousands were primarily "zombies" catalyzed by the nuclear radiation within Rome, subconsciously assumed he was a powerful, bloodthirsty madman.

"The pressure of facing such a madman is too immense. And I had to pretend not to know he was a killer, greeting him with a smile." With her back drenched in cold sweat and utterly exhausted, the nun entered the church to rest after Bai Mo left, with no mind whatsoever to entertain the mournful young devotees.

Bai Mo, on the other hand, clearly didn't take it seriously. In his view, that mischievous full-speed flash just now, used to wipe the sweat from the nun's forehead, was merely a joke. Of course, whether the person involved considered it a joke or a threat was not within his scope of consideration.

After leaving the church, he walked into a bar and ordered a glass of local wine. Then, as usual, he sat in a corner, lost in thought. Since it was still afternoon, there were few patrons in the bar. Bai Mo was content with the quiet, and simply lay down on a sofa to rest.

As it approached five o'clock, the small town suddenly grew noisy again. It seemed a large group of people had arrived.

"They've arrived. They actually came in military jeeps, carrying a large amount of heavy weaponry. With Committee Member Liu fully supporting them from behind, it's truly different. They can even bring Italian military equipment. As expected of someone at the pinnacle of Huaxia's power circle, able to directly trade with high-ranking Italian officials." Bai Mo counted the number of weapons within his divine sense.

"Six people from the military side have arrived. The rest should be continuing to take responsibility for Committee Member Liu's security, along with the professional security personnel. And from the Dao Academy side... all nineteen people are here..."

Twenty-five people, distributed among five jeeps, formed a motorcade. They drove grandly into the small town. The uniform Asian faces immediately caused this non-tourist town to erupt in excitement. Many people stopped what they were doing and went to watch.

The motorcade stopped at the entrance of the bar.

After parking the vehicles by the side of the road, the people in the cars disembarked one after another, and entered the bar in single file.

"There's big news to watch."

"Right! Hurry, hurry! Let's go watch the fun!"

Quite a few daring town residents also began to gather outside the bar. None of them had ever seen dozens of fully armed foreigners before.

"You guys are really impressive," Bai Mo said, rising from the sofa and smiling at the arriving team.

"It's all thanks to the leadership's grace," Liang Gong also said with a smile.

"Team Leader Bai, can you tell us the exact location now?" Chen Bo wasn't about to waste time on pleasantries.

"Follow me. Those who need weapons, take them. Jeeps can't go up the path to that castle."

"Did the two who escaped you walk up?"

"No, they can fly."

"Captain Chen, for the time being, I'll follow your command. I know nothing about small-unit combat command. You are the professionally trained soldiers. I'll just do my job as a guide."

Hearing this, Chen Bo also breathed a sigh of relief. He had been worried that Bai Mo would seize command, resulting in an amateur leading professionals, or that he would act alone and disrupt the entire plan. That would have been troublesome.

The others from the Dao Academy side had already been mentally prepared in advance, to uniformly obey the arrangements of the seasoned warriors. As long as it wasn't a suicidal order, they would generally comply.

"Good, then there's no time to lose, we'll depart now!" Chen Bo, as the temporary leader of the entire team, began to issue combat orders.

The fully armed group followed in the footsteps of Bai Mo, who had effectively taken on the role of a scout, and quietly ascended the mountain along his route.
