Chapter 91: Requesting Troops
"Captain Bai finally got in touch?"
"Yeah, that guy finally remembered to contact us."
"Ye Zi, how about it? Why don't you get Chen Bo and I'll talk to him directly?" Bai Mo asked, a hint of impatience in his voice from the other end of the line.
"I'll call them all over. As for any consequences, you'll have to bear them yourself," Ye Zi said into the phone in an icy tone.
"Thank you."
"Jingya, go notify everyone else to come here, and also inform Council Member Liu," Ye Zi instructed Rong Jingya, who was behind her.
"Does Captain Bai have an important announcement?"
"You could say that."
Twenty minutes later, everyone, including Council Member Liu, had arrived at the hotel's reception lounge.
"Little Mo's name pops up quite often in our circles. What he's found is a major discovery, and he even specifically asked for an old man like me to be present and listen. He must have a great benefit for me to say so," Council Member Liu said slowly, his unspoken meaning clearly being that if there wasn't a great benefit for him, Bai Mo would be in big trouble.
Among those present, only Wen Jian, who knew Bai Mo's identity as a researcher, understood the underlying meaning of Council Member Liu's words. However, he pretended to be unaware, so as not to steal Council Member Liu's thunder.
"Little Mo is now the youngest official member of the Spirit Energy Research Institute, and the Contribution Points plan he put forward kept us old men busy for quite a while," Council Member Liu continued unhurriedly, and the people around them were all startled by this sudden news.
"I never would have thought."
"No wonder he's so erratic. Researchers really aren't like normal people." Yue Yu continued drawing imaginary circles by herself.
"It's really strange. How did Captain Bai, a researcher, end up on the front lines mingling with us?"
"Maybe he's just playing around. After all, the dangers we face don't seem to be anything to him."
"He's indeed clearing his mind," Wen Jian recalled General Zhang's evaluation of Bai Mo.
"Everyone, quiet down. Let's see what major discovery Captain Bai has brought us," Chen Bo made a silencing gesture.
"Good morning, everyone. My apologies for disturbing you all so early," Bai Mo began speaking on the speakerphone.
"No worries, no worries. Everyone's very curious about your discovery."
"Yes, yes, Captain Bai, please continue. You've thoroughly piqued our curiosity."
"Last night, I encountered what seemed to be vampire creatures."
"Captain Bai, please don't joke like that."
"Exactly, exactly. A horror story in broad daylight just doesn't feel right."
"I'm not joking. Last night, I fought two of them. According to the information I obtained, the weaker one claimed to have become a vampire, or as they call themselves, a Blood Clan member, thirty years ago. The stronger one, I preliminarily estimate, has lived for over a hundred years. Lastly, their strongest individuals, it is said, are three monsters who have lived for four hundred years."
"Are you sure they weren't lying to you? Or were they just Ability Users with special powers, fabricating such a lie to bluff you?"
"I'm not sure, but that's not the point."
"What is the point?"
"The point is what they have on them, or rather, their abilities. They possess an ability akin to immortality; physical attacks are almost entirely ineffective against them, and their bodies seem to have no weak points. Even the weaker one, I blew his head off more than ten times consecutively, and he still instantly recovered. The only way to deal with them is through large-scale destruction of their bodies, but even a relatively weak one requires half their body to be blown apart in an instant to cause effective damage."
"Their abilities are strong, but what does that have to do with us fighting them? This seems like a needless act of making enemies."
"Because of profit."
"Profit?"
"Yes, although I couldn't keep either of them, I did manage to obtain some materials from their bodies. Through analysis of these materials, I concluded that the reason they ignore physical attacks is because a large part of their bodies is composed of a liquid substance. When this liquid substance is processed, it also has a powerful restorative effect on other people's bodies, so I suspect it has a strong effect on extending lifespan and treating diseases." Bai Mo deliberately emphasized the words "lifespan" to pique the interest of a certain individual present.
"How certain are you?" Liu Chen, hearing Bai Mo's words, was clearly tempted, but his expression remained unchanged.
"If you're referring to the restorative effect of the liquid substance on the body, then it's almost 100% effective. I personally tried it myself last night. After swallowing a portion of the material, my rather severe internal injuries were almost completely healed by this morning. I also conducted some other tests, but the process is quite lengthy, so I won't go into it here."
"As for how certain we are of obtaining this material again, that's hard to say. Although I managed to acquire the location of the lair of the two individuals I heavily injured through some means, I don't know what kind of arrangements are inside, or if they'll call for reinforcements. So, I'm here to request troops from you."
"Requesting troops?"
"If I go in alone, I'm not too confident I can ensure they don't escape, so I plan to have you all provide reinforcements."
"What are your thoughts, everyone?" Liu Chen symbolically asked for their opinions. As a leader long accustomed to high positions, he had originally intended to decide with a single word, but considering his life had just been saved by them, he still asked.
"We obey the commander's orders!" The military personnel, led by Chen Bo, had received orders to execute their missions.
"It's fine by us," the group from the Dao Academy reacted with relative indifference.
"To ensure everyone's safety, I suggest that only members with a Life Field participate in this operation, as it's highly possible the enemy possesses the ability to directly control blood within others' bodies. Without Life Field protection, it's too dangerous."
"According to the intelligence I've gathered, the lair of the two injured individuals is in a castle halfway up Shao Wo Fu Mountain. I will be waiting for your arrival in a tavern in the small town at the foot of Shao Wo Fu Mountain. I hope you can arrive as quickly as possible, lest complications arise from prolonged waiting."
"Are there any other questions?"
"Those without a Life Field really can't participate?" Even though almost everyone present was young, the word 'longevity' held considerable appeal for people of all ages. Driven by greed, some were still tempted.
"You bear your own risks of life and death. I'm merely pointing out the potential dangers. If you're not afraid to die, you can follow. Everyone, act within your capabilities, but don't forget our original purpose in coming to Rome."
"Purpose?"
