Chapter 824: Purple Wind Chime

Under the power of the Purple Wind Chime, the three women's memories began to play back like a video reel on a magic lantern.

"As expected of an Immortal's treasure, the clarity and detail of the images are beyond words. It's just a shame they pass by too quickly."

While staring fixedly at the three women's memories of their bathing and dressing, Du Nai couldn't help but sigh softly in admiration.

He completely disregarded the presence of his female teammates.

"Focus on the mission." Yu Xinyue slapped his shoulder heavily, saying with a touch of exasperated disappointment, "The Purple Wind Chime's power is limited. If we run out of power before completing the mission, we'll probably be stuck here for the rest of our lives!"

"For the rest of our lives..."

"Stuck..."

"Here?!"

"Didn't you read the agreement we signed before departure?"

"Unless we find the legendary Historical Text and contact headquarters through the Immortal artifact projection of the Purple Wind Chime, there's no way for us to leave."

"Damn it!"

"What kind of black-hearted clause is that?!"

"I didn't even look at it before signing."

"..."

The other three had originally thought this mission would be like their usual ones; successful or not, they'd at least be able to return to civilization via headquarters' spaceship.

"Less chatter, focus on searching the target's memories!"

"Y-yes..."

"Yes, Captain!"

What they held in their hands was, strictly speaking, only a physical projection of the Immortal artifact Purple Wind Chime's power. Given the value of a true Immortal artifact, how could it possibly be handed to a few rookies?

If it were lost in this Cursed Land, wouldn't that be a crippling loss?

The manpower and resources expended to construct the true Immortal artifact Purple Wind Chime, if converted into Imperial currency, would be enough to buy the lives of ten thousand such teams.

"Why are all these memories about killing and plundering treasures..."

"I never would have thought these three young women, who look so gentle and charming, already have double-digit body counts."

"Besides killing and plundering, there's also bathing..."

"Shut up, you lecherous dog."

"..."

"Six full months, either killing or being hunted down. This Gu-raising world truly isn't a place for humans to stay."

After browsing Mo Feng Wu and her companions' recent memories, they couldn't help but feel nostalgic for the peace and stability of the Empire.

Although the Divine Terra Empire was constantly expanding outwards, only a very small portion of the population was directly involved in actual warfare.

Out of over a hundred military commands, only about a dozen were engaged in war; the rest of the soldiers were merely conducting regular training.

As for civilians, war was even more distant for them, so far that they might not even see it in the news.

"Ding-dong~"

"Ding-dong~"

The Purple Wind Chime began to chime without a breeze, emitting a pleasant sound.

"The Purple Wind Chime is reacting! We've found something new!"

"They seem to have only arrived at Xuanwu Pass half a year ago."

"It's highly likely that whatever they saw before coming to Xuanwu Pass is the Historical Text."

"Why do they only bathe once a week... don't they stink?"

"If you interrupt again, I'll make you copy the Cleansing Spell a hundred times."

"..."

"It seems to be a man?"

The memory was about to return to the scene where Mo Feng Wu and her companions met before the tomb.

"How can you assume their gender?"

"I'll punch you dead."

"..."

On the screen was a white-robed figure, their sleeves gently fluttering in the wind, seen from behind.

Next to the white-robed person was a freshly dug grave, with a coffin and several skeletons inside.

Nearby, there was only a half-withered old tree, with two birds of prey – whether vultures, crows, or other demonic fowls – circling above its crown.

The group tried to see the other side of this figure, but unfortunately, this was just a scene from Mo Feng Wu's memory, not a 360-degree, dead-angle-free video recording.

Naturally, anything she didn't see wouldn't appear in her memory.

"Ding-dong~"

"Ding-dong~"

When the white-robed figure appeared in the memory, the Purple Wind Chime's vibrations grew increasingly violent.

The frequency of the vibrations gradually escalated to a terrifying degree, causing the surrounding air to become scorching hot.

"Stop vibrating, old man! If you keep vibrating like this, you'll run out of power soon..."

"If you run out of power, none of us will be able to go back."

"Hey."

"What is it?"

"Did you notice... he seems a little closer to us?"

"Don't joke about supernatural stuff. This is just a memory playback video."

"Really, Captain, I truly feel like he's approaching!"

"No, it's not him approaching! It's us being sucked into the screen!!!"

"Vine Technique, activate!"

The moment they realized something was wrong, the four immediately cast the basic Spirit Art, Vine Technique, making the spirit energy-transformed vines firmly grasp themselves on one end, and seek out any stable points within the cave on the other.

They were like travelers who had fallen into a swamp, desperately holding onto a rope tied to a tree trunk to keep from being swallowed by the mire.

"I've been waiting for you all for a long time," the figure in the image said, his back still to them.

"This must be her memory, and the words are spoken to them. He's also facing away from us, so he's definitely not talking to us. It's an illusion, definitely an illusion!" Du Nai tried to comfort himself, assuring himself that he hadn't fallen into some ghostly, supernatural world.

"The Cursed Land is truly sinister..."

The suction from the world within the image intensified, and the balancing vines snapped one by one. The four's vision went black.

When they awoke again, they found themselves lying beside this tombstone.

The white-robed figure was still facing away from them.

"Where is this?"

"Who are you?"

"Are you... human or ghost?"

"No, I'm a Third-tier Mage after all. What the hell am I afraid of a ghost for?" Du Nai muttered nervously to himself.

"I didn't expect that two hundred years would have passed outside while I slept."

After reading the four people's memories, Bai Mo generally understood the situation in the outside world.

The Divine Terra Empire's fleet, after a hundred years of voyaging, had finally reached the Proxima Centauri system.

When they descended, the natives of this star system had already developed a certain level of civilization.

However, compared to the Divine Terra Empire, there was still a massive gap, both in terms of technological advancement and the number of powerful individuals.

Therefore, the Empire only spent ten years sweeping away most of the resistance forces in the star system and began a massive Star-Devouring Project, preparing to dismantle all planets in the Proxima Centauri system and transform them into wealth for human civilization.

"True Spirit Wizard Ke Mo? A name I haven't heard of. Perhaps he became an Immortal after I fell into slumber?" Bai Mo attempted to use his Skynet ability to reverse-collect information about this Purple Wind Chime, eventually compiling it into this name.

The newly advanced seventh-stage True Spirit Wizard Ke Mo, creator of the true Immortal artifact Purple Wind Chime.

He had once participated in a coup targeting Imperial Speaker Jierkefu, eventually resulting in a mutual destruction, with both disappearing from public view.

During the rebellion, Ke Mo successfully raided Jierkefu's lair and obtained what was said to be a small portion of the legendary Historical Text from a mysterious entity.

He also learned that Jierkefu had been secretly concealing the existence of this item from everyone after obtaining it in the Cursed Land.

While in seclusion healing his injuries, through research on the Historical Text fragment, Ke Mo accidentally acquired an extremely powerful force which he named Black Magic.

And because of this, he personally oversaw the refinement of the Purple Wind Chime, an Immortal artifact specifically designed to search for other parts of the Historical Text. He then privately dispatched hundreds of small teams, carrying projections of the Purple Wind Chime, into the Cursed Land to search for other parts of the Historical Text.
