Chapter 770: The Abyss
"Since none of you are willing to come, then so be it." Bai Mo casually waved his sleeve again. The monster, seemingly named "Reaper," then undulated through space and swam into the White Bones Gate, moving with a nimbleness completely unlike a "fat-headed fish" tens of thousands of meters long.
As the giant monster, akin to a swimming fish, passed through the White Bones Gate, the low-level cultivators observing the grand spectacle from the Execution Planet finally realized just how incredibly vast that gate, opened in deep space, truly was.
Even a monster that could swallow half a city in one gulp could pass through it at will.
The monster, whose self-awareness was unknown, along with hundreds of thousands of equally self-aware-less Space Undead, followed the guidance of the White Bones Gate and set off for their own world.
...
"Lifeforms below the Immortal stage face the danger of assimilation every time they enter or exit the Nine Netherworlds," Bahamut secretly transmitted to the other Immortals.
"You've been in?"
"I've been to the Nine Netherworlds a total of eighteen times. The longest exploration lasted two months. If the system hadn't warned me that staying any longer would cause permanent damage to my body, I definitely would have continued deeper."
"..."
"Not really. Those eighteen times were all before I ascended. Unfortunately, after becoming an Immortal, the system revoked my entry and exit permissions."
Back when they were in the Land of White, many Monster Beasts, including the Four Holy Beasts, had entered and exited the Nine Netherworlds multiple times. This was because the Alliance of Ten Thousand Beasts' Subspace Stronghold they had established on Earth back then was also assimilated by the Nine Netherworlds, becoming a part of it.
Most of the Monster Beasts remaining in the Alliance of Ten Thousand Beasts' Subspace Stronghold had left with the Four Holy Beasts, but a very small number chose not to leave, instead being assimilated along with the Nine Netherworlds and becoming lifeforms of this new world.
When Bahamut visited these former subordinates who chose to remain in the Nine Netherworlds again, he was surprised to find that each of them had grown much stronger than before, though their minds occasionally seemed a bit muddled, and they would sometimes become abnormally irritable.
The strongest among them had even occupied territories and proclaimed themselves "Abyss Lords."
It was through interaction with these former subordinates that Bahamut learned that this strange assimilated region, which had merged with the Alliance of Ten Thousand Beasts' Subspace Stronghold, was actually called the Abyss.
Within the Abyss, there were countless strange and mad creatures. They were constantly fighting, with the victors devouring the vanquished.
At first, Bahamut's old subordinates, assimilated by the Abyss, didn't feel anything was wrong. But after witnessing these mad creatures fight, some instinctive knowledge, seemingly newly carved into their DNA, surged forth.
Kill, eat, grow stronger.
Simple and crude.
Following the guidance of instinct, they too began to slaughter. How could these mindless, crazed creatures be a match for rational monster beasts? They were quickly slaughtered utterly.
The monster beasts assimilated by the Abyss began their journey to become stronger.
"Legend has it that there's another group of creatures in the Abyss who can maintain their sanity. They are humans who originally fled into the Abyss and were transformed," Bahamut recounted these memories that had not been sealed.
As an important former member of the Land of White, Bahamut had a very deep understanding of the Nine Netherworlds.
However, after achieving the Monster Immortal stage, it no longer had the opportunity to go there, because its every move would cause immense destruction to the internal environment of the Nine Netherworlds.
Of course, the title of "Monster Immortal" was self-proclaimed; in reality, the path they walked was almost identical to that of a Human Immortal of the Martial Path, they just refused to admit it out of pride.
With the so-called monster race's cultural accumulation, they could spend another thousand years and still not deviate from the Five Immortal Paths: Celestial, Earth, Human, Divine, and Ghost.
Because, strictly speaking, an independent monster civilization simply did not exist.
From the moment they awakened intelligence, they used human script, human tools, read human-written materials, and naturally inherited the civilization created by humans, never having created anything unique to themselves.
Not to mention, they had lived in human society for over a hundred years. Aside from their physiological structure, these so-called monster races were no different from humans in their thinking.
It wasn't that no one in the Federation had raised such a question.
Monster Beasts spoke the same language as ordinary people, read the same books, discussed the same topics, and shared the same culture.
Cultivators spoke the same language as ordinary people, read the same books, discussed the same topics, and shared the same culture.
Monster Beasts had different physical structures from ordinary people, but could all transform into human form.
Cultivators had different physical structures from ordinary people, but looked no different from ordinary people.
Could it then be inferred that, in the eyes of ordinary people, cultivators and Monster Beasts were no different?
However, this dangerous question, which challenged the legitimacy of cultivators' existence, quickly sank like a stone.
...
"Besides him, have others entered the Nine Netherworlds even earlier?" The group continued to transmit messages privately and rapidly through their internal communication network, excluding Bai Mo.
"According to my subordinates, the leader of those who fled into the Abyss seems to be called Ke. They established their own Order Kingdom in another corner of the Abyss. It's a pity I didn't have enough time to see it with my own eyes."
"To be able to establish an Order Kingdom in such a naturally consciousness-confounding environment, their will must be as firm as a rock. I truly wish to witness what kind of person he is."
Bahamut continued to narrate what he had seen and heard in the Nine Netherworlds.
However, those eighteen times he spoke of were actually just superficial explorations of the Abyss's outer layer; he never had the chance to go deeper.
"If I haven't miscalculated, the culprit who created the Spirit Devourer virus back then is also among these pioneers who fled into the Nine Netherworlds!" Reckless Heavenly Secret, the True Immortal most skilled in divination in the Federation, suddenly voiced his thoughts after digesting the information provided by Bahamut.
"The culprit of the Spirit Devourer virus?! He's hiding in the Abyss now?"
"He's still alive," Reckless Heavenly Secret said coldly.
That Spirit Devourer virus storm, which swept across the entire world, cruelly killed countless cultivators on Earth. If it weren't for the subsequent Red World Rebellion that turned Earth upside down, leaving no time to pursue the culprit, they would have long since wanted to investigate further.
"The Abyss, you say. One day, I will find you," two True Immortals who had lost loved ones during the Spirit Devourer virus's rampage said in unison.
"You have enemies in the Nine Netherworlds?" Just then, Bai Mo interjected.
"..."
Originally, Bai Mo's Emotional Vision was already ineffective on normal Immortals, but the deep hatred expressed by the two when they mentioned their enemies was too strong and revealed itself directly, allowing him to guess the reason.
PS1: Recommend "Wizard's Fragment," a very innovative wizard novel.
PS2: Too sleepy, still didn't finish the second update.
