Chapter 764: Undying

"Old man, who are you?"

Hou Lin nearly blurted out that question, but in the end, he swallowed his words. Because he found that this guy in front of him had actually blocked his punch with just two fingers. Although Hou Lin knew he hadn't used much of his strength against that easily-defeated mortal, it wasn't a move that could be so effortlessly nullified by just two fingers. Unless, the other party was also a True Immortal, and what's more, a Human Immortal of the Martial Path whose cultivation was above his own.

"Are you going to interfere in this matter?" Hou Lin was somewhat puzzled. Why would this True Immortal in front of him want to protect this mortal who only knew how to hurl insults and audaciously sought to challenge all cultivators?

"It's him?"

Besides Hou Lin, Ramdo was the first to react. In the past, his cultivation path had been almost completely ruined by Bai Mo. Fueled by this deep-seated hatred, Ramdo naturally recognized the identity of the white shadow first.

"How could it be him..."

Next were the Four Holy Beasts, projected into existence. Their old superior from over a hundred years ago, the "Heavenly Dao" that had hung over their heads – they could recognize that aura even if it turned to ash. Even years after gaining their freedom, seeing that figure again still made their bodies instinctively uneasy.

"Yes." Bai Mo's reply was unusually succinct.

"Why?"

"This person is of some use to me."

"Useful?"

Before Hou Lin could finish his sentence, a high-energy silver-white laser beam suddenly appeared from the void. It landed precisely where Wu Ling had just been resurrected, and the violent heat instantly vaporized his mortal flesh. Now, there was nothing left, not even a wisp of smoke, to indicate where his flesh and blood had been.

...

Following the source of the power, Bai Mo saw the one who had made the sneak attack: it was Ramdo.

"What you want, I will destroy." He revealed a twisted smile.

...

Wu Ling hadn't even recovered from his bewildered state before he was once again obliterated by a light-speed attack. The gap between a mortal and a True Immortal was, after all, simply too vast to compare. For a mortal body to last more than a single round against a not-yet-serious Immortal and not die completely – that was already something he could boast about for ten lifetimes.

Beyond sheer power, a crucial difference between Immortals and mortals lay in their perception of time. For an Immortal who was taking things seriously, a single second was an extremely long concept, enough for them to fly dozens, even hundreds of kilometers, or launch thousands of attacks. But to an ordinary person, one second wasn't even enough to complete a deep breath before battle. The two simply didn't exist on the same temporal dimension.

...

"It's very, very far from the Sun here. No matter how strong you are now, the avatar you project over can only be at my level."

After sneak attacking and killing Wu Ling, Ramdo further mocked him.

"Then I'll just remake him."

Watching the resurrected Wu Ling be desecrated once more, Bai Mo felt little emotion. He merely pointed a finger at the spot where Wu Ling had been vaporized by the laser. The few wisps of smoke remaining on the scene began to intertwine and swirl under that finger, as if creating something from nothing in the void, once again "sculpting" Wu Ling's body.

"Dead people can be revived?"

Ramdo was somewhat bewildered. He was certain that the light he had unleashed in his sneak attack had utterly extinguished all life force from that mortal. Besides pure physical destructive power, that laser also contained over sixty types of curses, essentially sealing off all paths for feigned death or reincarnation. Forget a mere mortal; even a Six-Tier cultivator would have had no chance of survival after taking that attack. To deliberately provoke Bai Mo, he had shamelessly resorted to a sneak attack against a mortal, yet he hadn't expected it to fail.

"What's happening to me?" Wu Ling, resurrected once again, finally had a chance to ponder his situation. Just now, Hou Lin had killed him too quickly; his nerves hadn't even had a chance to transmit pain signals to his brain before his entire body had exploded into a molecular state. The last memory he had was simply a blackout. Then Bai Mo resurrected Wu Ling. He had just opened his eyes, wanting to see what that "blackout" had been about, when Ramdo's sneak attack arrived. Like Hou Lin's attack, Ramdo's laser had burned Wu Ling's brain to ash before the pain signals could reach it, so he could only feel another blackout.

"You can revive the dead?" Hou Lin's gaze towards Bai Mo suddenly grew fervent.

"Your family has been dead for too long." Bai Mo immediately guessed his thoughts. Hou Lin wanted to ask if it was possible to revive his family members who had been killed by the demon race.

...

"Can you teach me? I will offer something that will pique your interest in exchange." A ghost-like female figure quietly appeared behind Bai Mo. It was the Ghost Immortal from the Federation Council Speaker's faction.

"Me too!"

A True Immortal, with the back of a tiger, the waist of a bear, rippling muscles, and a full head of hair and beard, was also drawn by this resurrection art, and voluntarily manifested from the void.

"Heavenly Killer Star?" Ji Er Ke Fu recognized the other party. Heavenly Killer Star Yu Po, a True Immortal who had devoted himself to ascetic cultivation and paid no heed to worldly affairs. In this great Federation war, he hadn't taken any side.

Yu Po was extremely self-centered; he only reacted to things that piqued his own interest, and no matter how others unrelated to him called out, he would virtually turn a deaf ear.

"There's nothing to teach. This isn't a Spirit Art." Bai Mo rejected their overtures.

"If it's not a Spirit Art, then what is it?"

After so many years of war, every human had lost friends and family too soon. The allure of resurrection art to them was unimaginable.

"It's merely the instinct of an eight-stage True Immortal."

"Could it be that reviving others is also an innate ability you activated?" Hou Lin pressed on.

"An eight-stage True Immortal merely existing will passively assimilate and infect all people and things around them. So, rather than saying you killed this young fellow Wu Ling, it's more accurate to say you killed a thought of mine." Bai Mo's explanation sent shivers down everyone's spines.

"He's right. There truly was a power, as pervasive and silent as sunlight, trying to infiltrate us, but it was too weak, so we unconsciously ignored it."

"One thousand four hundred and fifty-three years. If you stood by my side for one thousand four hundred and fifty-three years, you too would be assimilated into a thought of mine, just like him. Or rather, a thought with its own self-awareness."

"Heavenly Demon?"

...

"Are you toying with me?" Ramdo, feeling enraged and losing face after being so thoroughly tricked, found the golden light on his fists nearly impossible to suppress.

"Wu Ling was indeed useful to me, but unfortunately, that was Wu Ling before he died for the first time."

When a person dies, their Qi Luck dissipates. As a tool, when Wu Ling was killed for the first time, the immense Qi Luck attached to him had already dispersed like scattering clouds in the wind, actively seeking out a new host. He was therefore no longer able to mobilize Qi Luck or activate the "End of Dharma Realm". This was something Bai Mo only discovered when he resurrected him for the second time.
