Chapter 62: Ice Age
"Rumble, rumble..." Everyone felt the tremors originating from the earth. They all guessed that an earthquake must have occurred somewhere, but something felt off, as earthquakes didn't last this long.
After hearing the sound, Bai Mo swept his divine sense across the distance, but unfortunately found nothing. After a loud bang, nothing else happened, yet everyone could feel something approaching.
About a minute later, he suddenly noticed the horizon slowly drawing closer to him. Then, as the ground trembled with increasing intensity, he guessed the reason for the approaching horizon.
"A tsunami!"
Everyone present at the Ability User Conference felt the ground shaking faintly, and the tremors grew more violent. Some ability users, whose Spirit Hubs were their eyes, possessed extraordinary far-sight and could already see overwhelming giant waves surging toward them, threatening to swallow everything in their path!
Panicked, people began to flee desperately in the opposite direction of the tsunami. Amidst the chaotic throngs, the scene became utterly disorganized.
Yet, Bai Mo, standing at the center of the battlefield, leisurely pulled Yamamoto up.
"Thank you," Yamamoto said, getting to his feet and expressing gratitude to Bai Mo.
"Aren't we enemies?" he asked, perplexed.
"Aren't you planning to leave? The tsunami will reach here in less than half a minute. "Yamamoto remained remarkably calm in the face of the tsunami, clearly possessing his own methods of coping. Furthermore, he even intended to use this tsunami to further his own cultivation!
"I want to see the truth," Bai Mo murmured.
Leaving aside the fact that his speed was comparable to the tsunami's advance, and he didn't even need to breathe air, the tsunami might be a deadly crisis for others, but to him, it was no different from a fountain. Under the dual protection of his telekinesis and Life Field, he wouldn't even necessarily get his clothes wet.
In a flash, the first wave of the tsunami had already arrived two hundred meters in front of Bai Mo and Yamamoto.
"Why are you two still here?!" As the two of them were pondering, Ye Zi rushed over, shouting at them.
"Don't mind us."
"Then suit yourselves."
"What are you here for?" Bai Mo asked.
Ye Zi didn't answer, but her serious expression suggested she was preparing an incredibly powerful technique.
For the next few seconds, the other two could feel the air temperature plummeting rapidly. Bai Mo's Life Field was strong enough that the cold sensation wasn't intense, while Yamamoto swung his sword, creating a small flame domain to counteract the increasingly terrifying chill.
"Is this woman planning to freeze this first wave of the tsunami?" Bai Mo suddenly had this thought.
Ye Zi no longer had the energy to care about what others were thinking; she began to unleash her power with all her might.
In the moments that followed, most of the people who hadn't managed to escape witnessed the birth of a miracle. The tsunami, which had been gnashing its teeth at everyone, slowly began to solidify into ice under the terrifying cold.
The ice belt continuously stretched outwards, rapidly assimilating the unfrozen seawater behind it, finally forming a colossal ice wall nearly forty meters high and over three hundred meters wide. And just as it completely froze, Ye Zi collapsed, drained from overusing her ability.
"While I'd rather not discourage you by saying your efforts aren't very useful, the reality is just that. The surging tsunami is coming from the entire west coast of Italy, and you've only frozen a small section of it. Moreover, in five or six minutes, the next wave of the tsunami will wash away all your efforts," Bai Mo analyzed calmly, like an unaffected third-party observer.
"At least, I bought them five minutes," Ye Zi said, lying on the ground.
"Ice Age, truly a spectacular sight." Bai Mo simply grabbed Ye Zi, then found Rong Jingya, who hadn't run far, and handed Ye Zi over to her.
"I'll stay here and watch the scenery; don't worry about me."
"His premonition really came true." Rong Jingya, who had already added Bai Mo to her list of eccentrics, no longer hesitated. Carrying Ye Zi, who was drained from overusing her ability, she quickly left the scene.
"Not yet, this is only the beginning," Bai Mo continued to stand in place.
Rong Jingya, already far away, didn't hear his reply; she simply carried Ye Zi and left as quickly as she could.
Less than four minutes after Rong Jingya left, Bai Mo finally truly felt the arrival of a death threat, but he still couldn't find the source of the threat. Unwilling to give up, he swept his divine sense over every inch of the surrounding land, yet still found no answer.
"So, it's above." After failing to find anything on the ground, he focused his perception on the sky for the first time, finally discovering the truth.
In Bai Mo's perception, two objects resembling nuclear missiles had reached the skies above Rome, preparing to land and detonate. He didn't have time to wonder why two nuclear bombs could bypass defense systems and fall directly on a national capital.
"Who has such immense power to not only create a tsunami but also drop nuclear bombs to silence witnesses? I've been wondering why there would be a tsunami in the Mediterranean; it turns out it was all part of the conspiracy."
After understanding the source of the threat, Bai Mo took half a second to warn Yamamoto, then began to retreat rapidly in the opposite direction of the nuclear impact, carrying his suitcase. At his current stage, he was still too vulnerable to ultimate weapons like nuclear bombs. As for everyone else, he could only say, "May they find their own blessings."
Ten seconds later, boundless light and heat erupted behind Bai Mo. A massive shockwave, accompanied by two mushroom clouds, appeared, almost leveling all buildings in its path. Only some sufficiently sturdy reinforced concrete structures managed to survive.
In the ancient city of Rome, countless historical buildings vanished forever, to be mourned only in photographs.
The colossal ice wall, which Ye Zi had previously frozen, was once again melted in this endless light and heat. The collapsing meltwater absorbed a portion of the heat, turning into seawater that flowed outwards.
In those brief ten seconds, he unleashed his maximum speed, yet only barely managed to escape the one-kilometer lethal radius of the nuclear blast. However, it was enough; as long as he wasn't within one kilometer of the explosion's center, Bai Mo was confident he wouldn't be severely injured.
He stopped when the supersonic shockwave caught up to him. Feeling he had reached a safe area, he simply turned around and directly withstood the shockwave.
After the shockwave passed him, Bai Mo slowly walked toward the nuclear blast center. When he reached about 300 meters from the center, he felt this was his limit; any further, and his energy-absorbing skin would overload, unable to absorb all the high-energy radiation.
