Chapter 482: Eyes

“Bang!”

The very next instant, as Bai Mo felt he was on the verge of grasping a tiny clue regarding this problem, almost without warning, a thunderous explosion ripped through his mental world, instantly and utterly throwing his thoughts into disarray.

He, who had always maintained an exceptionally precise control over his thoughts, reacted almost immediately, realizing he had likely stumbled upon something far beyond his current capabilities.

Only when involving certain higher-tier existences would such a situation occur.

“I can only perceive information related to myself within a certain range, and I can't directly prevent others from communicating. But the very essence of spiritual particles is far too domineering; certain topics cannot even be contemplated.”

He didn't attempt to piece together the memory again, but instead let the tiny spark of inspiration he had so painstakingly gained dissipate with the wind.

Because Bai Mo clearly understood that matters whose very contemplation could be restricted were far beyond what his current self could touch.

The Bai Mo from a parallel world, who casually devoured stars and suns, was also extremely cautious about this issue. It was not the right time for him to research it now.

......

Timekeeping in the void was somewhat chaotic; Bai Mo wasn't quite sure how long he had actually walked. The only thing that could barely be considered a unit of time was his measurement of his own will's degree of Daoization.

Bai Mo walked idly, towards the direction of a barely perceptible speck of light in the extreme distance.

That speck of light was the end of the passage, the exit to another spatial layer on the other side.

After walking for so long in the wormhole passage, Bai Mo had probably guessed that simply crossing over to another spatial layer could not actually escape the curse of Daoization. The world's power to assimilate his will showed no significant change in speed.

However, he hadn't held much hope to begin with; he had long since prepared various backup plans.

As life within Earth underwent modification, more and more "Holy Progenitors" would be connected to the God Body network, to share a portion of the pressure for Bai Mo.

With his emotions gradually fading, he felt neither fear of loneliness nor impatience with repetitive steps. He advanced alone through this fantastical and bizarre passage.

......

“There.”

From a speck of light, it grew into a luminous sphere; from a sphere, it expanded into a gateway of light. At the end of the passage, the entrance to another three-dimensional spatial layer finally appeared within his reach.

Everything on Earth was still being transformed according to his plan, and there was a very long time until its complete overhaul. Returning now held little meaning; it was better to see what the new world held.

Without much hesitation, Bai Mo allowed his body, which resembled a cloud of mist, to pass directly through.

......

“Who exactly am I?

I can't remember.

They all call me Bai, but I always feel that my current self isn't complete, that the real me is still hidden within this body, not yet awakened.”

The young boy, squatting alone by the river, gazed at the reflection of his face on the water's surface, and once again began to ponder this strange question.

Ever since he had memories, he had been able to sense his uniqueness, a feeling of being utterly out of place with everything around him.

You were once a banished immortal; why then have you descended to the mortal dust?

Insight far surpassing ordinary people, enough to see through hearts; an unusually powerful physique; and a nearly photographic memory—everything about him revealed his extraordinary nature.

His gaze wasn't sharp, but it was more terrifying than sharpness, as if it could penetrate the minds of everyone around him. Precisely because of this, no one his age wanted to play with him; they were deeply afraid of such eyes.

Even the adults in the village almost all strenuously avoided meeting Bai's gaze, because they always had the feeling that the instant their eyes met, every single thought in their minds would be seen through.

......

“Little Bai, time to eat!” A middle-aged woman’s voice broke Bai’s reverie.

He casually picked up a small stone from behind him, tossed it into the water with a plop, and then, bored, walked towards the source of the voice.

The ripples spreading across the water became as turbulent as his own heart.

Bai lowered his head and ate his meal, holding his bowl in silence. He knew his adoptive parents were equally afraid to meet his gaze.

Even the most honest and simple-minded person would find it difficult to accept their thoughts being completely exposed before another, no matter how good their relationship with that person was.

Over the past two years, when the couple spoke to Bai, they had consciously or unconsciously avoided eye contact.

“This child, he seems to have grown more solitary these past few years.”

“Little Bai is too smart. I always feel that in front of him, we can't hide any secrets.”

“Old Zhao, Old Li, they’ve also quietly mentioned it to me, saying that this child we adopted is a bit eerie.”

“Back then, I found it a bit strange, that a child only a few years old, who couldn't even remember his own name, would appear in the deep mountains and old forests behind us...”

They had no children of their own, which was why they adopted Bai, whose origins were unknown, as their foster son. But over the years, they had found him to be increasingly amiss.

“Could Little Bai be a monster?!”

“If he were a monster, he would have eaten us long ago.”

“How about we send him to a temple? Looking into his eyes, I genuinely feel a little scared. Now I don't even dare to be alone with Little Bai.” The farmwoman said with a hint of lingering fear.

“Let me think about it.” The farmer said, a little reluctant.

In a world plagued by endless conflict and war, where mortals were as insignificant as blades of grass, having a powerful adopted son would undoubtedly allow the village to survive better. Though the farmer was also somewhat afraid, Bai's strength made him unwilling to let the boy leave.

......

After he left the dinner table, the couple quietly exchanged their thoughts.

Unfortunately, they had underestimated Bai’s hearing. Every word of their conversation reached his ears.

But Bai didn’t take it much to heart. Over the years, he had already perceived many similar thoughts within the village; he had grown accustomed to it.

With his ability to read minds, he saw through the villagers' thoughts with perfect clarity. He had simply been too lazy to expose them. Both he and everyone else knew clearly that he was completely different from everyone else.

Bai didn't go to school, because there was absolutely no need. Less than half a month of self-study had already left the village tutor with nothing left to teach.

His daily task was to wander around, lost in thought, occasionally hunting wild rabbits and pheasants to bring home.

......

One afternoon, Bai, holding a wild rabbit by hand, was walking on his way home.

The rabbit, held by the scruff of its neck, still struggled faintly now and then.

As he grew older, Bai, whose speed and strength gradually far surpassed ordinary people, could now even in the dense forest, alone and bare-handed, capture those wary wild rabbits alive.

They simply didn't have time to react and dart back into their intricate network of burrows before they had already fallen into Bai's clutches.

......

As he neared the village, he abruptly stopped..
