Chapter 67: Gained a Pet! White Rose Spider Egg!
What is that?
Bai Xuan’s eyes caught a sudden glimmer of snowy white amid the crimson flames of dragon breath. Instinct told him something was hidden there.
But he didn’t rush. Instead, he waited patiently for all the spider eggs to burn to ash, only then stepping toward that faintly glowing spot.
As he drew closer, Bai Xuan was surprised to find an unusual spider egg.
Unlike the others, this egg was wrapped in two immaculate white petals, shielding whatever lay inside.
“What is this?”
Just as Bai Xuan reached out to pick up the petal-wrapped egg, a system prompt appeared before his eyes:
[White Rose Spider Egg (Purple): A creature from another world. Feeds on rose petals. Currently dormant; can be nurtured by watering with Rose Nectar.]
A flicker of surprise crossed Bai Xuan’s face as he read the description.
Why would something like this appear in the nest of White-Faced Spiders?
Still, if he managed to raise this spider egg, wouldn’t that mean an extra pet for him?
Wait a second!
Bai Xuan quickly shook his head. Of all things, he hated arthropods—especially spiders!
There was no way he’d raise one himself!
“Human! What’s that?”
At that moment, Mare Alera had already shifted into her girl form. She trotted over, her small hands curled into fists, curiosity shining in her eyes.
“A spider egg,” Bai Xuan replied.
“Spider egg?” Mare tilted her head. “Can you eat it?”
“Of course not!”
As he spoke, Bai Xuan slipped the spider egg into the Book of Worlds.
Even if he didn’t like spiders, this was a Purple-quality item—he couldn’t just toss it away.
If it really came to it… he’d just have to find someone else to take care of it!
Though, Rose Nectar sounded like it wouldn’t be easy to come by…
“Let’s head back,” Bai Xuan said to the two of them.
Right now, exhaustion weighed on him. Before entering the cave, he’d been swarmed by White-Faced Spiders; after that, he’d helped Serene slay the broodmother.
This trip had drained him completely.
Compared to E-Rank Missions, D-Rank Missions were on a whole different level!
It wasn’t just the fighting—they were simply much longer and more tedious. Finishing even one D-Rank Mission a day was already quite efficient.
With a flash of pink light, the three of them returned home.
Bai Xuan immediately submitted his mission:
[World Quest: Spider Plague (Completed)]
[Mission Reward: Equipment—White-Faced Spider Claw (Blue)]
[White-Faced Spider Claw (Blue): Four spider claws attach to your back, able to strike enemies within range at your command.]
“Oh?”
Bai Xuan equipped the White-Faced Spider Claw without hesitation.
In the next instant, four white spider claws unfurled behind his back, flexing and moving in sync with his thoughts.
He grinned in satisfaction. “Not bad~”
His Scorpion’s Sting Kagune had been damaged during Serene’s character quest; this White-Faced Spider Claw would make a perfect substitute for now.
Still, the Kagune could be repaired and even upgraded if he found suitable materials.
But for that… he’d probably need help from another Ghoul.
“Human! Hurry! Take me to bathe!”
Before Bai Xuan could even finish sorting through his mission rewards, Mare Alera excitedly grabbed his hand and dragged him toward the bathroom.
“All right, all right~” Bai Xuan relented with a helpless smile, letting her lead the way.
But as soon as they entered, Mare slammed the door with a loud bang and flashed him a mischievous grin.
“Hehe! Human! Let’s perform the sacred ritual too!”
“Huh?” Bai Xuan was caught off guard. “Just what are you plotting in that little head of yours?”
“You know, that! Ah~ Ee~ Hee~”
“Are you an idiot?”
“Human! I’m serious!”
“Stop messing around!” Bai Xuan grabbed Mare’s dragon horns and dragged her under the shower. “Be good and wash up!”
“Human! You’re bullying me!”
“?”
“You’re invincible!”
…
It took Bai Xuan quite a bit of effort to finally get all the scales on Mare Alera’s body sparkling clean.
When he finally sat down to rest, he couldn’t help but think of Su Yue. He wondered if she was ready.
Looking out the window, Bai Xuan saw that dusk had already fallen.
He immediately activated the Teleportation Array and arrived at Su Yue’s villa.
The moment he stepped inside, he saw Su Yue sitting alone in her room, gazing quietly at the setting red sun.
He walked over and softly called, “Miss Su Yue.”
“When did you…”
Su Yue was startled by his sudden appearance, but quickly composed herself. “I’ve prepared everything you asked for,” she said.
She rose and took a box from her bedside drawer.
“These are the Magic Stones you wanted.”
She lifted the lid, revealing several gemstones of various colors nestled inside.
“Thank you.”
Bai Xuan stored the Magic Stones in the Book of Worlds.
The box vanished instantly, and Su Yue’s eyes flashed with a trace of confusion. She couldn’t help but wonder if the man in the Slime Mask possessed some sort of spatial ability—both teleportation and storage were space-related, after all.
“This is the address and entry code for the safehouse.” Su Yue handed him a slip of paper. “It’s a lakeside villa, with only one entrance. You can stay there without worry—no one knows about it except me, not even my father.”
“All right. Thank you.” Bai Xuan nodded and turned to leave.
“Wait!”
Su Yue called out to him, her voice suddenly tense. “May I ask… does what you said before still hold?”
Bai Xuan paused and looked back at her.
Su Yue continued, “If… I manage to break free from my current predicament, would you still let me join you? Does your promise still stand?”
Bai Xuan was silent for a moment.
He wondered why Su Yue cared so much about this.
After a brief pause, he nodded. “Yes.”
“~”
With his answer, a faint smile bloomed on Su Yue’s lips. “Thank you.”
Before she could say more, Bai Xuan had already stepped into the Teleportation Array and vanished.
After he left, Su Yue’s star-like eyes shimmered as she murmured to herself, “I hope you’ll really remember me, Mr. Slime Mask…”
As she spoke, she took out the Starlit Eye of Desire Suppression Device.
Unlike before, there was now a new symbol on the collar—a six-pointed star.
…
When Bai Xuan returned home, he found Mare Alera once again assaulting his pillow, leaving it soaked with her drool.
He sighed and glanced at the time—it was already 8:30 p.m.
The address Su Yue had given him was quite a distance away; he wouldn’t be able to go tonight.
“I’ll head there after school tomorrow.”
…
The next day, Bai Xuan yawned as he walked through the school gates.
He hadn’t slept well last night—maybe because too much had happened lately. His mind still felt foggy.
After several days of emergency repairs, the classroom building had been restored to its former state.
Bai Xuan had just sat down at his desk when Zhao Fan leaned over and whispered, “Bai Xuan, want to play soccer after school? I heard the soccer club just recruited a bunch of really cute new girls!”
“Huh? Weren’t you busy with the Fallen Angel Goddess Club lately? Why are you back with the soccer club again?” Bai Xuan asked, puzzled.
Zhao Fan looked stunned. “Fallen Angel Goddess Club? Is there really a club like that at our school?”
Bai Xuan: “?”
