The young man looked shocked when he realized what the warrior was getting at. The Union gave out those ranks under very rigorous examination and conditions, so someone who was able to get above rank A had to be incredibly talented.
But even someone with such potential had been turned away from the Silver Linked Towers in the past. That was a very easy comparison that finally made the young man realize his mistake, and he froze for a moment.
「Yes, he’s really famous as an adventurer today, and back then he was also known as a prodigy, but there was no place for him in the Silver Linked Towers. In other words, there’s plenty of people like Thunderclap Battleaxe already there, everyone is at least at his level, so who knows what kind of monstrous beasts a summoner like that would bring forth. I’ll say it again, it’s nothing personal, but I suggest you avoid bad mouthing summoners while you’re in this city.」
The warrior spoke with a slow and easy to understand voice, wrapping up what he had to say.
「Yeah, I get it now. Thank you for the warning.」
「I’m glad you understand. Sorry for taking up your time.」
Finally understanding how difficult it was to get in there, the young man finally gave a positive response, and the warrior nodded satisfied, patting the young man’s shoulder. Then, the warrior turned around, throwing a hesitant glance at Mira, who just nodded with approval, letting him breathe at ease as he returned to his seat.
「It’s kinda crazy that someone so strong didn’t make the cut, huh?」
Sadly for him, there was a different group he had slighted. Namely, females. Shortly after the warrior returned to his table, all of the female staff and guests surrounded the young man, dishing out a well deserved clobbering.
That day, the young man learned the lesson that the spellcasters in the Silver Linked Towers were terrifying, but so too were women.
(Still, that’s quite the extreme impression of them.)
Mira had watched everything unfold, all the way until the women were satisfied with the beating they gave the young man, which made even Mira shudder. But at the same time, she was shocked by the image adventurers had of the spellcasters in the Silver Linked Towers, which prompted that warrior to say all of that.
From Mira’s perspective, they were definitely research nuts who would often forget everything else but their craft. But everyone else saw them as powerful spellcasters on par with rank A adventurers, who were also terrifying.
As she mulled over that reputation they had gained, she also began to wonder who the person from the Tower of Summoning was.
The warrior had mentioned someone like that was also in this city, which would make them Mira’s junior.
Back in her days as Danbulf, the Tower of Summoning had been brimming with researchers just like the other towers. But now there were only three remaining, making the place feel rather empty.
With Danbulf at the top and as the biggest influence, most of the other summoners also shared the trait of being of advanced age. Sometimes, Luminaria would joke that they were the only ones honoring the name of Silver Linked Towers.
But as Creos put it, that was also the reason why the majority of the researchers had already passed away from old age. Then there were no new members joining, which led to the current desolate situation.
Creos had also mentioned that the few remaining researchers were spread out in various places all over the continent.
They were traveling trying to hone their own skills, while also trying to teach any budding summoners they came across. Many of the summoner students at Arkite Academy had also gotten there after being scouted by those researchers, and then sent to study, as Creos had described it.
In other words, the ‘summoner from the tower’ was one of those itinerant researchers. Realizing a kindred spirit in them, Mira felt eager to meet the person behind the legend, so she turned to the individual who appeared most knowledgeable on the subject.
「Hey, hey, do you have a moment?」
She approached that person, the warrior from before, and tried to get his attention. He was just trying to enjoy his drink after admonishing the young man, so he brusquely turned around wondering who was bothering him now.
「Ah…?! Wh-What do you need?」
The moment he recognized Mira, his gaze darted around nervously as he straightened in his seat, bracing himself for their conversation. He—and several onlookers—had already concluded she must be the Spirit Queen, and they feared she’d be angered by the earlier remarks.
Meanwhile, the warrior’s warnings about the Silver Linked Towers’ researchers had sowed dread among them all. Some even wondered if that insolent youth would soon face the wrath of a Rank A adventurer—before his wounds and bruises had time to heal.
But luckily, those assumptions were far from the truth.
「I’m sorry, but I just couldn’t help but overhear you mentioning that there’s a researcher from the Tower of Summoning around here?」
Starting with that, she added that she was interested in meeting that person, and asked if they knew where that person was now. She did not intend any harm, she was just curious.
When the onlookers heard that, all of their worries and misconceptions were cleared, and instead they began to discuss the recent rumors about a summoner that was traveling around.
「Oh, it’s that. I’ll gladly tell you everything I know.」
With his own fears gone, he brightened up quite a lot as he spoke of what he had seen, and the address of the inn that person from the Tower of Summoning was staying in.
When Mira left that place, the people inside naturally began to talk about the Spirit Queen.
One of the onlookers had waited for her to leave before announcing that Mira was definitely the Spirit Queen. That person had actually been in Sentopolly the day Chimera Clauzen was defeated, so he had seen Mira’s projection from the spirit flying ship, as well as the Spirit King.
That prompted some of the other guests to celebrate that they had seen a rank A adventurer in the flesh, while others showed their true colors as they began to discuss how cute she was. Some also began to wonder just how powerful the Spirit Queen really was, and so on. Overall they were all talking about Mira.
But amidst all that, the warrior was left with mixed emotions.
「Somehow she gave me the same vibes as the spellcaster from Tower of Summoning…」
Whether by chance or instinct, the warrior had noticed a presence lingering deep within Mira. But he could not quite put his finger on what it was, and eventually, he stopped worrying about it. All he knew for certain was that he had actually rescued that young man.
