      You know, that is the thing with this novel. It's not especially amazing, it doesn't reach the incredible heights of others, but it never hits their lows either. It does well at everything, even the ending. It doesn't turn to trash half way through and it doesn't become racist (if I'm remembering correctly). It's just consistently good from beginning to end, and you know, that might be much more difficult than we give these writers credit for. So, in a way, this might be a masterpiece of a different kind.
