Oh so the garralosh is another past human. That complicates things.

Something else that complicates things... Why is the Legion keeping Garralosh from diving deeper? Shouldn't their objective be to keep monsters from surfacing?

Your misunderstanding. Garralosh would get immensely stronger if she gets lower.

How bad would that be? If she goes deep, she will likely never be able to leave, right? It seems the monsters become more and more dependent on mana to survive, right? As it is the Legion is keeping an extremely powerful monster close to the surface and it is causing her to attack said surface now.

Yeah but you see, if garralosh goes deeper, she could potentially be the 20th ancient. The only reason shes surviving till now os because she had some help. If the number of ancients return back to 20, they think that the ancients will wreak more havoc

Have to say though, the more I read, the less convinced I am that the Legion gives a crap about 'protecting people'. Ahead they seem rather powerful and definitely capable, but they didn't manage to kill a single croc mother that couldn't even shield her mind? Seriously? Instead they built a outpost to 'contain' her, but chose to let her devastate the surface? It seems very shady and it makes Titus go from interesting to a fool for simply going along without ever questioning the Legion.

That is a good point. If the legion can fight against monsters from deeper stratas, why not some first strata monster

I think she's not a first strata monster, I think the story is that she was from deeper, came up with a previous wave, got trapped at a higher level. She wants to go back down but cant break through the bulwarks the legions have in place. The defend these to stop monsters going down (to prevent them gaining access to more mana and power) or up from below to prevent the powerful monsters destroying the surface. Basically the Legion are trying to prevent the deeper tiers rising up.

The way the story goes it depict Titus as the legion champion even though he is just one of many department heads and he was based in liria
According to my understanding I thought there will be more powerful legeionaries

If the number of Ancient like monsters increase, it's dangerous for the surface when they invade.
Also,Garralosh is still invading and killing ,but still less harm than what it can potentially be if she becomes stronger.

I also think that the legion's city may be in the way of her path down, so they just can't let her through.
