Hump wolf ate that grey rabbit, and by the command of Fang Yuan, started to devour the dead female wolf and her cubs as well.

I like how people can whine about killed girls yet can also completely overlook atrocities like this. Author sneaked in such lines and then watched how many hypocrites there are.

So, Fang Yuan obviously wants immortality and is unscrupulous in pursuing his goals but he still occasionally shows emotions.

And in this chapter we can see that Fang Yuan partly pursues immortality because you cannot keep things if you are weak, the world is cruel etc.

This would imply that Fang Yuan would start living more leisurely and kindly, start to enjoy the worldly things, start to travel for the fun of it if he became an immortal

Every lifeform has free will. That is upon their consiousness to act according to what they believe or desire. The MC wants eternal life and he is willing to discard everything for its sake. What is the problem with it? I do not want eternal life, I want to help other people, be a part of their journey, watch them succeed and peacefully die. What is the problem in this either?

We are humans and our likes and dislikes are all according to the genes and our neural networks, at core. The devil's immenese desire kill god, will be despised. At the same time, an angle's immense desire to kill devil, will be praised.

There is no such thing as absolute. Every path is unique in its own. You hate killing? So do I. But if you were born in an enviroment where killing was natural, you wouldnt mind killing. To sum it up, our judgement is nothing but a mere consequence of our enviroment and genetics. I do not advocate that we should be like FY. Infact, judgement is necessary to maintain order, but you cannot say that their act of conduct is pathetic. But then again, even if you say so, it is nothing but a mere consequence of your surroundings, genes and beliefs.

Since everyone seems to be torn about life philosophies I will drop my humble opinion
I used to think immortality would be boring as heck but now I realise there are so many things to be done in life, so many experiences to be had, so many things to ponder.
fang yuan given the opportunity even if the chance is low wants to pursue immortality aiming for the one true meaning pursuing True and complete Freedom.
Most of us In our constant search for purpose given our short lives most people settle on families and a stable life.
Completely fine by the way .
I don't have the right to dismiss another's way of life that they have chosen.
Neither do you(talking to you joyboy)

I find it interesting how you try to converge fangs goal of immortality with our standard goals on earth.

The problem is that doesn't work when they guy you're talking about is willing to, has, and will kill tens of millions to achieve his goals. I believe that I do have a right to say that your goal of immortality doesn't triumph over my rights of life and liberty.

And that's just on an individual scale. Now look at the big picture, does fang yaun's goal of immortality triumph over millions of people's rights to life and liberty? And we haven't even started talking about their goals either.

I do have the right to judge and dismiss another persons way of life. ESPECIALLY infringes in my way of life.

“Without eternal life, even the most beautiful thing is but the reflection of the moon in the water. The value of their existence is mere for that second of elegance.” The more experiences that Fang Yuan went through, the more he understood the cruelty of this world. Without immortality, even the most valuable of things will become worthless.

“The so-called praised for a hundred years, or leaving a stench for ten thousand years, these are all superficial thinking of those cowards. The so-called immortality in spirit is merely a tool for descendants to make use of. Is it true that the existence of humans can only be affirmed through one another? So be it on Earth. But here in this world, if there is even a slight possibility, I want to pursue it!”

“Even if I die on the road while pursuing my goals, even if I die a million times worse than Ge Yao, I have absolutely no regrets…”

"Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life; think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success."
    - Swami Vivekananda.

I don't care what path you choose, its up to you to decide. The goal never mattered.

What truly matters is the dedication and passion you pour into it.

I know I might get flak for this but if his doing all this to reach his goal of immortality it's very lackluster. This is just my prejudice and view of immortality not being that great.

His true goal in being able to do whatever he wants is also a bit lame but it's really impressive the lengths his going to get it

I think you're underestimating eternal life completely. People simply fail to imagine eternal life as a real life concept. For example if I had eternal life I would like to be a GM in chess (even tho i suck). I'd like to see humanity attempting space travel. I would like to travel through the whole world. Maybe I would start a business, maybe I'd be a politician. Failure wouldn't matter anymore since I wouldn't be "wasting my life" after failing.
Similarly Fang Yuan pursues eternal life to lead an unrestrained life. Maybe he wouldn't spend his years after achieving eternal life like I would, but the essence of wanting to live forever remains the same.
You have to think from the perspective of a man who has seen love, comradery, friendship, betrayal, hatred and so much more. What is the point of living any more when you have seen all there is to see?
Fang Yuan's answer was to pursue a grand and immposible goal to bring so called color back to his life. Achieving his goal is simply the icing on the cake. Sometimes the journey matters more than the destination.
Also if he does achieve eternal life, Fang Yuan would definitely find something even grander to pursue, maybe something outside of the Gu World for all we know. Humans are inherently greedy. Once we accomplish something we will infact move on to do better things. "Eternal life" is merely fang yuan's mean to leading this free and unrestrained life. End of rant.

You bring up great points and immortality working through that perspective is definitely worth it so it makes sense the lengths FY goes to achieve it. If the goal to reach immortality is to explore everything that there is to offer then it's amazing and understandable

However, unfortunately I am biased because of my personal beliefs towards it however I can still recognize the appeal that it has which you greatly presented
