    What kind of bright future is there? The only promotion they're getting is becoming an Elder, which is entirely dependent on having a B grade potential. Not to mention the stark difference in ratio of elder positions to the usual rank 2 members.
    And what's the point of getting to work several years less with sufficient achivements? Early retirement? Then what about the income next?

              If destroying you benefits them, they will do it. That’s the point of government and wars for resources and territories.
              They can just don’t care about your wellbeing and do whatever benefits them, disregarding other people, that’s the world we are living in.
              If you continued with reading you would understand what author want to say. He is not revering cruelty and evilness, in the opposite he is showing that so called righteous forces in our world governments, don’t really mean good and justice, they just abide by the rules and regulations they set themselves(which ofc benefit only their agenda and goals)

              And that’s exactly why author has been prohibited from publishing his work, chinas government didn’t like the narrative about systems
              They used violence as the reason for banning, but it’s just a facade (also iirc one of the other authors was jealous of ri author and pushed it to the government )

      It's a relic of the world they live in. Obviously our world, so used to peacetime, isn't nearly as schemes based, but for them they need these schemes to survive. In times of despair only those intelligent or careful may survive. Plus it makes for a great read
