It would be extremely incompetent of these sorcerers to not have any contingencies placed for these occasions!? If someone is behind the updated knowledge for sometime, he would just die after his knowledge becomes up-to-date!?
Author is making a mountain of a molehill, every competent person will have numerous failsafes for these occasions and what's the point of pushing all these huge discoveries if it was a big problem, clearly it's a niche problem for nerdy stubborn sorcerers...
And MC is still very weak and have near zero real world uses for his knowledge, what does he gain by this, just more rss for more experiments and increasing his rank, which he is not doing....

First of all, those who knew about the discontinuity had prepared the others and were confident that they would be able to handle it, since at that point it was only a hypothesis, not a proven fact.

Of course they published it. If they didn't, how could anyone develop new theories based on it? Should they hide the hypothesis? But sooner or later they would have to reveal it anyway when a new theory based on that idea was finally proven. In that case, they would die before anyone could benefit from it.

Should they avoid publishing both the hypothesis and the theory altogether? Then scientific progress would come to a halt. It's not only the legendary scientists who make important discoveries. Even in this case, the formula is also based on Cole's theorem. If other researchers don't know about it, they will either create incorrect theories or the development of thermodynamics will simply stagnate.

Eventually, they would still have to reveal it, and the consequences might be even worse. Imagine that nothing was published. Scientists would spend weeks or even months trying to explain the phenomenon with incorrect assumptions because it's difficult to imagine that energy could be discontinuous. In the end, either people still wouldn't be able to accept it (so there would be no point in delaying the hypothesis), or they would eventually accept it but would have wasted valuable time adapting to the idea. That time is extremely important because war could begin at any moment, and they need to strengthen their capabilities as quickly as possible.

That was the path that every new ruler had to take before reaching his or her throne!

Sighing, Sonya shook her head with a bitter smile, “Working for the review board can be very dangerous. I shall have the board compensate for my loss. I wish I could directly have Lucien Evans pay for this!”

You mean, "I wonder how to thank Lucien Evans".

Without the support of firm and solid evidence, the assumption that rebelled against the orthodoxy and was powerful enough to destroy the existing arcana world system was doomed to be ignored and exiled by the ruler.

Why would it destroy the existing arcana world system?

The arcana world system is based on their previous understanding of the world, if said understanding were to be proved wrong all of a sudden their cognitive world would crumble so causing their heads to explode

Because the foundation of their arcana system is based on a continuous world while Lucien's research implied that the world is in fact not continuous.

Basically, when energy goes from point A to point B, the flow of energy according to:

      - The old system: continuous line without breaks

      - Lucien's formula: a dotted line

This is a completely different concept with some bizarre implications. The world we live in is not continuous but rather a series of very fast snapshots.

To imagine it, for these sorcerers, their cognitive world was built with very clear lines but now Lucien is saying that they should have used dotted lines instead...

          No worries, glad I helped.

Some of the things in this novel can be very vague and confusing. Here we have quantum physics blowing up the heads of ancient scientists (literally).

But as it is mentioned, this is a consequence of the advancement of knowledge (arcana). The closer their cognitive world is to the real world, the more stable it is but that doesn't mean they can't create a cognitive world based off of the wrong information. They can still create truly bizarre cognitive worlds where '1 + 1 = 3' but the moment they are shown proof that '1 + 1 = 2', it triggers their cognitive world to adapt to the answer closer to the truth. If the deviation is too much or they can't accept the truth, their cognitive world collapses and their head explodes.

This is why the Grand Arcanists are so careful about slowly introducing groundbreaking discoveries, it allows the arcanists to slowly adapt their cognitive world, instead of a giant magnitude 12 earthquake hitting all at once, a strong vibration over a couple of years is preferred.

Imagine how many heads were blown up when they first introduced the concept of 'zero'. Numbers used to start from 1 and the concept of 0 doesn't exist because they believe 0 is nothing and can't be expressed as a number. We know better now but as an interesting trivia, the church once banned the use of the number 0 claiming it is the number of the devil. Imagine that happening in the world of this novel lol.
