      For any subsequent readers that are confused about what’s going on, Adam is trying to test whether or not The Fool is willing to make enemies with the Twilight Hermit Order.

      Adam knows that Fors and Xio and believers in The Fool. He set up the Viscount Stratford situation so that after Fors and Xio killed Stratford and got the Unshadowed Crucifix, they would then bestow it to The Fool. By doing this, Adam was trying to tell The Fool that he not only has questions regarding his dad, he also wants The Fool to know that the Twilight Hermit Order is backing the Royal Faction. Afterwards, he got Hvin Rambis to hypnotize Audrey into meeting with Fors and Xio so she can hypnotize them and see if their actions are of their own will or if it’s because The Fool ordered them to do it. If their actions following the death of Stratford is because of The Fool’s orders, this would tell Adam that The Fool wants to make an enemy of the Twilight Hermit Order.
