    Feel like on my second read through that Derrick(sun) was slightly ignored this early on, like he needed to be in the tarot club this early to get developed but as a person from the forsaken land of the gods he can't help the main plot for so long. Doesn't hurt my opinion of the novel but I feel like could've had a slightly more noticeable presence early on.

        I think this is to expose him to scheme and not be a naive boy in the real world so when he matures he becomes reliable to the cause. If he is a cunning man, he could already generate a lot of fortune from Audrey and Alger just from his previous revelation about acting and digesting knowledge. It's like old times Arabian people when they didn't aware about the value of oil and trade it with water to ENI.

          but if that is the case he wouldnt just stand mute, and actually ask questions like a naive boy.

          right now hes no more than playing the role of a second hand furniture, hes not even purposely being sidelined. Hes isolating himself, even a kid knows from his situation to gain knowledge of "another world" to accomplish becoming a sun possible.
