    So the poet is another demi God. Probably close to divinity. Or maybe a god who failed ascension. Did not get the authority but got the glimpse of divinity working

      He could be an avatar of some god fooling around for fun. But more likely he is some ancient god, say from the Netheril times, who has lost (or gave away) most of his portfolio/power (or mutated), but is still hanging around... because he can. The sort of thing isn't particularly uncommon in the Forgotten Realms. Now as to why he qualifies as an undead, many possible explanations for that can exist. Maybe he is like Leyla, who got slain, but was reanimated. As such he could have really been anything previously - any possible portfolio and allignment. Possibly something really grand previously. I wouldn't be surprised if he were a Lawful Good like Helm and whatnot.

      And speaking of Leyla... who is to say that the Poet isn't Leyla? (and "Valarun" at the same time). There is a pretty damn strong argument why that may indeed be the case.
