Can't he just explain his powers away as having a unique fate talent?? Thats literally what it is and why he can do what he does. Why lie when it's not needed in this situation? Not to mention excessive lying doesn't help with anything especially when he is trying to gain someone's temporary trust.

He's lying unnecessarily in the face of someone who is much much stronger than you and has a bit of goodwill towards you. If I were her I would have stabbed him a bunch before giving him that potion and telling him to shut the f#ck up.

Lying all the time makes your future truths and lies much harder to land, makes people less likely to trust anything you say, and even if they do they'll still doubt your future comments.

A good liar is someone who knows how to balance the truth and lying. Someone who knows WHEN to lie and WHAT to lie about. That way nobody can even tell you lied in the first place.

Lying about being a record-breaking track runner to explain his unique but still normal-ish talent to a very strong and somewhat reliable teammate is not the time or place to lie. If he doesn't want to explain it to a stranger, just say it's one of his unique talents gifted by fate. Nobody is going to be willing to prod at that especially if they think you have the gaze of a GOD on you.

I think you've missed the point of the MC's motives and actions. He's a trickster of deceit. Don't forget following certain faiths erodes the mind a changes personality. Shi's even stated that his purpose was not only lying and trickery, but to a degree at which he could even fool gods. He considers any lie a tribute to deceit. He actively stirs turmoil and confusion, because it resonates and amuses him. His whole entire existence hinges on him being able to lie and freeload off of people who's stronger than him. The more confused, the easier to use I suppose. bow
