    I don't understand why he doesn't stay a while in the shadow. It's relatively safe since people live there and he would Come back so much stronger.

      It’s a thin balance of everything actually. Imagine the outrage if he comes out 2 years later. He’ll be suspected of desertion, siding with wild duke and many more such nonsense. Also he always had a clear plan for the fort, if I understand correctly he wants to be a middleman in brute contraband so he’ll always have access to them anyway.
