That's why I love this novel. Fellow Daoists, maybe we can't be cultivators, but still can comprehend Gread dao.
On the surface, studying and comprehending various Daoist classics had no direct help for his cultivation, nor could it directly enhance his combat power.

However, in reality, studying and comprehending these classics was beneficial for his comprehension of the Great Dao of Heaven and Earth and helpful for solidifying his foundation.

This work is one of those with really good foundation in concept, world, and power system but the author ruins it with inconsistencies and poor mc. I read ahead by mtling myself and it was somewhat better than what's here but I just couldn't go on after chapter 3250. From 700 to around 1800 it very good and entertaining. It had good portrayal of sect management and dealing with politics in a cultivation world. However after chapter 2000, the author seemingly just gave up trying to write a good story. Inconsistencies, retcons, and bs for convenience got out of control. The origin of some characters, races, or items can completely change in future chaps. Events that were very important to the current plot can also change massively later. Sometimes powers, techniques, and/or items get completely forgotten and disappear.

The power system, which was one of the pillars of the story and genuinely good, was completely broken. Where once the mc and his disciples took an appropriate amount of time working hard to get to the next realm that made it a little bit more realistic, now the mc takes a fraction of the time to the point it unrealistic and somehow his less talented and less fortunate disciples keep up and also take a fraction of the time, sometimes even less than mc. Yet, only when it's convenient for the plot and author, do other characters acknowledge this and treat the mc better. He could spend literally 1 year on something that takes tens of thousands and ppl still go out of their way to make enemies with mc.

My major frustration with this is still the mc. The Mc's character is just garbage. He is a hypocrite of the highest order. He would say he is an righteous cultivator with one of the best morals in the whole universe, he would proudly proclaim to be a principled man. He would condemn others for stealing treasures, using others as cannon fodder, betraying ppl, working with non humans, and colluding with devils. Yet, whenever it's convenient he would do, and has done, everything he condemns and insults others for. The author never has him face consequences for his hypocrisy, infact all characters ignore this so his reputation remains spotless. Instead he uses it for convenience so he can make mc do stupid things.

I 100% believe this would be 10x better if morals weren't even talked about in this. If being righteous was simply being orthodox, it would have been better. Still, even after chapter 2000 there are good parts that are interesting if you want to follow the story of a man building and elevating a righteous sect in a cultivation world that is brutal most of the time. U just have to deal with mc's stupidity, inconsistencies, and Author's laziness and incompetence.

Is there any romance in this novel? Or any potential for a love story with the main character? Or is he a loner?

He is a loner up to the point I dropped it. And there was no evidence there would be romance in the future.

Frankly, I've read over 3400 chapters, it's a good novel. I've been reading novels for over 10 years, not a RE, but it's enough

Very low quality MTL edit. You'll notice right away how incompetent the MTL editor is when you see "Zhen Ling (True Spirit)" a thousand times in the first 10 chapters. The story starts out decent, but it's ruined by the shit translation.

Its nice and the translation is fast, but there are still 3500+ chapters and there will probably be more to come. After 3-4 years, if I dont forget, if I live, I will come

    See you in 4 years.

C tier novel (just run it in text to speech, not something i would read page to page)
recommended for binging and experienced fellow daoist only...

    (read 400+chapters)
The tone of this novel more towards a calm(RMJI) style than hype but it still has a few dopamine hits. Within the first few chapters you will understand what kind of novel this is and there are no big changes throughout.

+ has character development of MC
+ sect building is thought out and plot is well paced (no cheats)

    - the internal logic/plot is medium, everything is explained but not really 5D chess and rather:
event 1 ---> event 2 // this is why this novel cannot be B or A tier.

personal cultivation is dealt with at length by the author but there are 0 interesting or innovative aspects about it (quality of sect building > treasure/ cultivation aspects)

The other critiques in the comments about dialogue and writing style are valid.

The MC is not OP but progresses both with the help of himself and others. Although the side characters are mentioned a lot it is not very well written but I don't think you will absolutely hate it,

As someone who read through over a 1000+ chapters on MTL. I can confidently say it's a very good novel. There's no golden finger, but the MC has good talent. There no side tracking in cultivation, every new minor or major realm is a grueling step forward. And the MC isn't a ignorant fool either he gets mistreated by the holy sects(the hegemons of the current cultivation world) but due to the Power diffrence he let's go, rather than getting himself and his whole sect killed by a single step. And he's always afraid of him dying and his sect going down due (for the greater part of the story's time he's the strongest in his sect). It can get kind of boring on the side character POV but it's not unbearable.

My advice is to only read this novel if you don't have anything else to read, translation isn't consistent and has many mistakes.
The plot idea is good but full of holes. monk

I think the story is good with good grammars and consistent story but I feel like the MC is just too overpowered, upcoming spoilers - everyone in this world get a special divine ability at golden core stage and because he has eaten a divine fruit he get 2 divine ability even in the first stage and those are mind reading and clairvoyance, it is clearly overpowered because everyone else divine ability is like little bit smarter, little bit stronger, slightly better memory, able to control their elements slight better, and as is in most novel nobody else is going to get any good divine ability even those million year old people living there.

I understand where you're coming from but he literally can't use it on most people because they all have way to block it or they're the same level or higher. At most he can get a general vibe of good and bad intentions. 👍
