His family knows he is terminally ill and they aren’t waiting for him to have a mental breakdown, they’re waiting for him to die so that they can be with him at his final moments. This is reinforced by the following line “He knew they wanted to help, but there was nothing they could do, he couldn’t be fixed.”

    why does every novel I read where the mc is in the hospital he has to dying from some sort of heart disease or a weak physique from birth why cant they die from something cool like brain cancer

        I mean they could just narrate his life instead of having the mc think it, have a random nurse, doctor or family member mention it in some way or have the mc think about his past life to explain to us how he died, not like we need the internal monologue as he dies for it to work
