    Chapter 380

Su Hao paid little attention to the Foundation Establishment and Golden Core matches that followed.

After collecting the Senior Brother Token, he jumped off the arena and walked over to Feng Ling.

"Master, I have something else to take care of, so I'll be leaving first. By the way, what about the five hundred merit points?"

Feng Ling naturally knew why Su Hao had fought for the Senior Brother Token in the first place.

It was all for those five hundred merit points.

Or more precisely, for the books on Alchemy and Artifact Refinement that those merit points could buy.

Now that he had won, the first thing on his mind was naturally the books.

    She smiled helplessly.

"You can claim the five hundred merit points at the Disciple Registry by presenting your Senior Brother Token."

    "But don't rush."

"The library is closed today because everyone is here watching the tournament. There isn't anyone guarding it, so even if you claim the merit points today, you won't be able to borrow any books."

    "Come back tomorrow."

    Su Hao nodded before asking,

"How are merit points managed? Is there some kind of token or record?"

    Feng Ling shook her head.

    "No."

"They're recorded by the logistics disciples."

"Merit points can only be used within the sect to exchange for designated items."

"Whenever you redeem something, the corresponding points are deducted from your personal record."

"They're bound to your identity and can't be transferred to anyone else."

    Su Hao sighed.

    "That's rather troublesome..."

    Feng Ling smiled.

    "It isn't that inconvenient."

"Being able to exchange them for resources is already very good."

"Five hundred merit points is quite a lot."

"It should be enough to copy about one hundred books."

    Su Hao blinked.

    "Only one hundred?"

    "..."

    Feng Ling fell silent.

    A hundred books?

She probably wouldn't even finish reading that many in three years.

Yet Feng Wei had actually said "only."

    It was strangely irritating.

    Su Hao simply sighed.

    "Alright, Master."

    "I understand."

    "We'll talk about it tomorrow."

    ---

These merit points turned out to be different from what Su Hao had imagined.

They couldn't be spent freely at any time or place.

They could only be used within designated areas of the sect, and every point was permanently tied to its owner's identity.

That completely ruined one of Su Hao's original ideas.

He had briefly considered earning merit points from other disciples.

    Now it was obvious...

    That business was impossible.

Thinking about it, though, it made sense.

Yunzhong Valley only had around two thousand cultivators.

There was no need for a complicated currency system.

As long as the sect provided a place to exchange merit points for resources, that was sufficient.

    Outside the sect...

Cultivators probably traded directly with Spirit Stones.

    "What exactly are Spirit Stones?"

Su Hao found himself becoming increasingly curious.

Still, he wasn't in a hurry.

Step by step, he would eventually uncover every secret of the cultivation world.

    After all...

He was currently only a Qi Induction disciple.

    ---

Returning to his room, Su Hao took out the Senior Brother Token and turned it over in his hand.

He didn't immediately inject Spiritual Power into it.

Instead, he sat down cross-legged and entered meditation.

Using his Mind, he carefully examined the token, trying to discover what made it different.

After quite some time, he slowly opened his eyes.

    "It doesn't seem particularly unusual..."

"Let's try infusing it with Spiritual Power."

Before experimenting, Su Hao transformed into his Lifebearer form.

He activated every defensive measure available.

    Opposing Space Barrier.

    Multiple protective rune arrays.

Only after confirming everything was ready did he slowly channel Spiritual Power into the token.

    Hum—

The token suddenly emitted a brilliant golden light.

A spherical barrier three meters in diameter expanded outward, with the Senior Brother Token floating quietly at its center.

    "So it's a protective barrier?"

Su Hao immediately began testing its durability.

Comparing it with all the data he had previously gathered, he concluded that the barrier could withstand at least one attack from a Golden Core cultivator without breaking.

"Once I've learned Artifact Refinement, I can study the activation principles behind this barrier."

    "I'm sure it'll be worthwhile."

Standing outside the barrier, Su Hao carefully observed the floating token.

    He had a feeling...

Its purpose wasn't limited to this.

Eventually, the Spiritual Power he'd supplied was exhausted.

    The golden barrier disappeared.

Before the token could fall, Su Hao caught it.

"What if I activate it while standing inside?"

    He immediately tried again.

Spiritual Power flowed into the token.

The golden barrier expanded once more, this time enclosing Su Hao within it.

    Almost instantly...

    He noticed something different.

Inside the barrier, the Spiritual Power within his body became unusually active.

It felt like a sleeping dragon slowly awakening.

    It stretched...

    Opened its eyes...

    Then gradually came alive.

    "...This..."

    Su Hao's expression changed.

He immediately closed his eyes and carefully observed the Spiritual Power inside his body using his Mind.

Only after a long while did he slowly reopen his eyes.

Looking at the token in his hand, he couldn't help muttering,

"This Senior Brother Token really is a treasure."

    "No wonder everyone wants one."

    ---

The Senior Brother Token possessed only two abilities.

    Yet each one was astonishing.

The first was its defensive barrier.

It could withstand an attack from a Golden Core cultivator.

For a Qi Induction disciple, that was practically an absolute defense.

Unless another Qi Induction disciple possessed an attack comparable to a Golden Core cultivator...

Breaking the barrier was nearly impossible.

The second ability was even more valuable.

Inside the barrier, Spiritual Power became extraordinarily active.

For low-level cultivators, this dramatically reduced the difficulty of breaking through to the Foundation Establishment Realm.

    In other words...

The Senior Brother Token was essentially a treasure designed to assist cultivation breakthroughs.

    ---

Unlike Blood Qi, Spiritual Power was difficult to control.

Cultivators had to rely on meditation and the Mind to slowly guide it.

Qi Induction cultivators couldn't truly manipulate Spiritual Power yet.

When they used Techniques, they merely guided the naturally circulating Spiritual Power within their bodies.

The essence of Technique casting was guidance, not direct control.

Since the Mind of a Qi Induction cultivator was still weak, controlling Spiritual Power was the greatest obstacle preventing them from reaching the Foundation Establishment Realm.

Within the barrier generated by the Senior Brother Token, however, Spiritual Power became far more active.

The Mind could guide it much more easily.

This greatly reduced the difficulty of constructing the Foundation Establishment.

It was like trying to move an enormous block of ice.

    Normally, that was extremely difficult.

But if the ice melted into flowing water...

    Controlling it became effortless.

From this, Su Hao quickly reached another conclusion.

If the Qi Induction Senior Brother Token assisted breakthroughs into the Foundation Establishment Realm...

Then the Foundation Establishment Senior Brother Token probably helped cultivators break through to the Golden Core Realm.

    Likewise...

The Golden Core Senior Brother Token was likely intended to aid the breakthrough to the Nascent Soul Realm.

    ---

What truly surprised Su Hao wasn't the token itself.

    It was Yunzhong Valley's generosity.

The sect was actually willing to use such an extraordinary treasure as the grand prize of the Senior Brother Tournament.

    Even more importantly...

Once awarded, the Senior Brother Token was never reclaimed.

From the moment Su Hao received it...

    It became his personal property.

This alone demonstrated just how deep Yunzhong Valley's foundations truly were.

"There must be countless treasures hidden within this sect..."

    ---

Now that he understood the token's functions, Su Hao became even more interested.

    "So..."

"How exactly does the barrier work?"

    "What's its construction principle?"

"And why does Spiritual Power become more active inside it?"

One question after another appeared in his mind.

He infused the token with Blood Qi, recording all of its information into the Marble Space.

Then, with a thought, the token vanished from his hand and was stored inside his personal storage space.

"I need to learn Artifact Refinement as quickly as possible."

"Only after mastering its fundamentals can these Artifacts truly reveal their value."

"Trying to study them now is simply forcing the issue."

Artifact Refinement was like possessing the proper tools to dismantle a machine.

Without those tools, understanding its inner workings was far more difficult.

    "As for Alchemy..."

Su Hao was already studying Array Formations and preparing to learn Artifact Refinement.

He simply didn't have enough time to devote himself to Alchemy as well.

    "I'll leave Alchemy to Yashan."

"Once he learns it, I can simply use the data and information he gathers."

"In another year, I'll modify Yashan's Spiritual Roots and bring him to Annan Heng Province."

"When Yunzhong Valley recruits new disciples again..."

"I'll have him join the sect."

    ---

Thinking of Yashan, Su Hao entered the Marble Space to check on his current situation.

    The result startled him.

Yashan had somehow stirred up a hornet's nest.

    At this very moment...

He was being chased by an entire group of Foundation Establishment cultivators.

Su Hao immediately contacted him through the Universal Assistant.

    "Yashan."

    "What's going on?"

    ---

Yashan was flying at full speed when the familiar blue interface suddenly appeared before him.

Seeing that it was Su Hao, he immediately replied while continuing his escape.

    "Boss Wei!"

    "I have no idea!"

"I was just wandering around when I accidentally entered a place covered in thick mist."

"Then a whole group of cultivators rushed out and started chasing me without saying a word!"

    "Good thing I'm fast enough!"

    Fortunately...

Yashan's flying speed far exceeded that of ordinary Foundation Establishment cultivators.

Watching him steadily widen the distance, Su Hao couldn't help smiling.

"...Could it be you accidentally wandered into another sect?"

    Yashan froze.

    "...Huh?"

    Su Hao chuckled.

"Your luck really is something else."

Calling him unlucky wasn't entirely accurate.

Many cultivators searched desperately for hidden sects and never found one.

    Yashan, meanwhile...

Managed to stumble into one just by taking a casual walk.

With a smile, Su Hao ended the communication and withdrew from the Marble Space.

He no longer worried about Yashan.

Yashan often found himself in dangerous situations...

    But somehow...

He always seemed to be extraordinarily lucky.

For a long time I've been waiting for a book centred around an mc that just keeps reincarnating. I love the details of research, playing with multiple power systems, visiting new worlds, and just a little bit of face slapping in the form of a seemingly young man with more life experience than all beings on the planet combined.

Honestly, I've become bored of this. The MC is the same person he was on chapter 5, and everything is just repeating itself. Get to a new world and wow everyone with talent, learn something, change the livelihood of the world, die, then repeat.

The complete lack of challenge and the even greater lack of genuine relationships, has only made things worse.

In one of my favourite books [Greed: All for what], the MC technically doesn't have a genuine relationship with anyone (if you don't consider his others selves
). His relationship with women is even worse than this MC, however, 1300 chapters in it is still enjoyable and I wait every for the 2 chapters that are never enough.

That's because the story is not only unique but also crazy and exciting, but this... Nothing has changed after almost 400 chapters and it's getting boring. The only thing that could have saved it would be the building of great relationships, but there's pretty much none of that. Even Yashan is only a subordinate, not someone that could stand by the MC's side.

I did later on and I didn't announce it. Here, I was merely dissatisfied with how things were going and stated why.

What's so uncomfortable about what I wrote, to you? Too many words?

Ha. Congratulations on making an account here on Ranobes, but what a goofy first comment you made.
