      Only viable reason I think is that Kai was manipulated by Asterion and couldn't think of it. If Sunny could be made to think by Asterion that he should gather forces before helping Cassie, then Kai would be a lot easier to manipulate. Else, this could be a plothole

        Sunny was unaware of the manipulation back then, I think that being aware of such attacks makes one if not immune then atleast less vulnerable.
