    Is it just me or does it feel like the nightmare spell chose people more into their 20s during the first generation awakened and then went to its current 16-18 age range later on? I think it sounds plausible because maybe it considered that the first generation would be pushed into survival conflicts more often as they assimilated to the nightmare creatures and so it didn’t choose the optimal soul age of 16-18 because teenagers are still developing.

      I think its more so that back in the day, 16-18 weren't trained to the degree that current day teenagers were, so 20 year olds who would be more developed, mature, knowledgeable would be more likely to survive compared from teenagers. Now, the 16-18 year olds of the current day SS verse are much more sophiscated and know much more, making it much easier for them to survive.
