    1954 Realm of Shadows
     
    Sunny found himself standing at the top of a tall mound, with a desolate expanse of dark hills stretching in front of him in all directions. There was no grass, no trees, no moss or flowers. No sign of life at all, just stillness and silence.
     
    It was a stark contrast to the dreadful reaches of Godgrave, where everything was consumed by the sprawling vermilion jungle that teemed with hungry, restless, abominable life.
     
    The ground was covered in a soft layer of fine black dust, but felt more solid than a sand dune would.
     
    What made him gasp was not the desolate landscape, however, but everything else he perceived.
     
    ...There was light.
     
    He had expected the Shadow Realm to be a land of eternal darkness, entirely lightless and covered by a veil of shadows. However, instead, its dark expanse was illuminated by a beautiful silver radiance, as if resting under a starlit sky... it was just that there were no stars.
     
    Looking up, Sunny saw a black sky. At least he assumed that it was a sky — there was no way to tell. There were no stars and no moon, just a seemingly endless expanse of darkness.
     
    However, there were clouds.
     
    Far in the distance, a vast storm front was moving across the dark plain. That was what Sunny wanted to call it, in any case — in truth, the clouds weren't really clouds, and the storm wasn't really a storm.
     
    The clouds weren't formed from water vapor, but from ethereal light particles, instead. Shining with silver radiance, they moved and swirled, as if carried by ghostly winds. The empyrean currents were like beautiful rivers of starlight that illuminated the desolate land, making the immense, ancient shadows populating it flow and dance.
     
    It was a breathtaking sight.
     
    But, more than that... even from a distance, Sunny could feel the terrifying violence of the radiant storm. It was both daunting and chilling, making him want to dive deeper into the embrace of shadows to hide himself.
     
    It was a storm of light.
     
    'No...'
     
    Not light.
     
    Looking closer, Sunny shivered slightly.
     
    Those sparks of silver light... he recognized them for what they were.
     
    It was soul essence.
     
    The storm raging above the dark plain was a storm of essence.
     
    He didn't quite know what to make of it.
     
    At the same time as his eyes were enthralled by the sight of the beautiful, terrible soul storm, Sunny's other senses were flooding his mind with intense sensations, as well.
     
    There was his shadow sense, of course.
     
    As it flowed in all directions, Sunny felt... at home.
     
    He was surrounded by nothing but shadows, all of them indescribably ancient and unfathomably deep. Their dark depths were so vast that he almost felt lost, and so immense that he almost felt cowed by their scale. Their tranquil, slumbering indifference made him feel calm and at peace.
     
    The shadows were his source element, after all.
     
    Here in the Shadow Realm, Sunny felt more spirit essence than ever pour into his soul, soothing and satiating it. It was to a degree that the rate at which he replenished shadow essence had become swift enough for at least one more avatar to be maintained indefinitely, without causing any loss.
     
    '...That's good.'
     
    Sunny strived to maintain a careful balance between expending and replenishing his essence. Maintaining two avatars at all times — the Lord of Shadows and Rain's companion — was what he could do without constantly draining his reserves. So, knowing that he would be able to send one additional incarnation out to explore the Shadow Realm without crossing the line was welcome news.
     
    'Now, then... should I take a look around?'
     
    There did not seem to be immediate danger around him, but Sunny still remained in the form of an incorporeal shadow for now. He could not see any structures or sense any movement nearby, either.
     
    But he felt uneasy, for some reason.
     
    Actually, it was completely reasonable for him to feel ill at ease. The Shadow Realm was supposed to be the land of death, after all. If everything that died ended up here, then...
     
    The shadows of Unholy Titans and horrors beyond description would be here as well, wouldn't they? Sure, those harrowing creatures were supposed to be already dead... but beings of higher Ranks were often above such limitations.
     
    Had Shadow God not blessed him from beyond the grave?
     
    Come to think of it...
     
    Would the shadows of the gods, and the seven daemons, be here as well?
     
    Sunny shivered and carefully glided a few steps forward, nearing the crest of the hill.
     
    'Something... is wrong, I think.'
     
    He was feeling rather strange.
     
    There was no pain and no discomfort, but he definitely felt that something about him was not right.
     
    His unease grew stronger.
     
    'What is it?'
     
    Then, he froze.
     
    If Sunny had eyes at the moment, they would have undoubtedly narrowed.
     
    It was because he saw a tiny mote of silver light slowly rise above his incorporeal form, dancing in the ghostly wind. Then, there was another, and another...
     
    Why was he emanating sparks of soul essence?
     
    That did not make any sense. Not only because he was not supposed to randomly leak essence, but also because Sunny had never possessed soul essence, to begin with — he was rather unique, possessing shadow essence instead.
     
    Following an ominous premonition, Sunny summoned the runes and looked tensely at the counter of his shadow fragments.
     
    A moment later, he felt a hint of terror. His shadow fragments... were dwindling.
     
    The rate was not high, just one or two every moment, but it was unmistakable.
     
    His soul was being drained.
     
    Not, not quite. It was not being drained — instead, it was slowly disintegrating. It was bizarre and beyond reason, but he could not deny the fact. He was not under a soul attack and was not receiving soul damage, he did not even feel any pain, but his soul was slowly falling apart.
     
    It was being broken down and turned into pure soul essence.
     
    If not for the radiant motes of light, Sunny would not have even suspected anything.
     
    Feeling a sense of terror, he looked into the distance, where the immense soul storm was raging above the dark plain.
     
    A storm comprised of an incalculable number of essence sparks.
     
    If Sunny had hair right now, it would have stood on end.
     
    'D—damnation...'
     
    What the hell was this place?
     
    Following an instinct, Sunny assumed his human form and immediately manifested the Onyx Mantle. A shadow was quite vulnerable, after all, leaving the soul without the protection of a physical body.
     
    Finally, the stream of essence sparks rising above him was cut off.
     
    Sunny trembled and let out a relieved sigh.
     
    'That was close...'
     
    Before he could celebrate his salvation, however, his shadow sense caught a subtle movement a short distance away.
     
    ...And then, a black arrow suddenly flashed from the darkness, easily piercing his chest.

    Idk why people think he really going on full exploration now. He'll just go there see how it looks like get attacked by Great Titan or other scary shit and go out.

    I'm not going to believe in the slightest that he going to get Titan core right here right now until I read it in the actual chapter. It's a nice possibility but I doubt he would get it right now. Gate to Shadow Realm is just a preparation for the possible exploration in the future, after war is done.

                  He does nothing with his incarnations and it's not the six or seven cores that makes Sunny or nephis win their fights
                  It's their personnal strenght and their rank
                  Being a titan while being an awakened being is strong, but being one while being a saint is useless, except for the immense reserve of essence that it is supposed to bring
                  But the way I see it, it's a normal power up, that does not augment with the ranks, otherwise both Sunny and nephis would make minced meat of any saint in no time
                  Their strenght would be out of the world, but since it isn't, it's safe to assume that having cores only work in the beginning in term of strenght
                  He has 7 bodies technically and he is too busy "teaching rain" and making breakfast
                  You tell me what vacation means

                  I disagree having another core wouldn't just be a simple power up for sunny
                  For one another shadow could enhance him with another fold of power which automatically make him, his memories, and his shadows stronger which have saved him multiple times and help him beat enemies higher rank than him.

                  And i think the most important one is Serpent with him being a Titan serpent would get the same rank increase that means serpent can imitate some powerful monsters like winter beast.

                  I mean all his incarnation have been hard at work Master Sunless practicing weaving and Rain teacher being in the depths of song domain.

                  He loses that battle and humanity or at least his "humanity" is doomed and so is his future and the prospect to having allies in the future

                  Aspect and special abilities are very limited to begin with, at least his are, so figuring a domain when you have three choices to pick from isn't really that hard
                  It's either death, his control over shadows or his dead army, the rest wouldn't make any sense
                  So no he isn't gonna figure shit in the other world, the best way to go about it is to stay still and experiment, a bit like what he did with the soul serpent on his sister
                  Btw, but not figuring your domain in five years when you only have three topics max to pick from is really cringe, it either means that you're not trying or that you are the most useless person on earth

                  There's literally no downside of him going to there gaining a titan core would be a huge boon and he has alot of essence because there's nothing happening.

          I meant to say that he could have reached titanhood whenever he felt like it with nightmare's help, but he didn't
          So reaching it now is pointless this late in the game when the war is ragging
          Plus it's not like he does anything with his shadows to begin with, so having an additional won't change jack to the equation, that's what I meant
          And as I said before, but being a titan as a saint in term of strenght doesn't mean nearly as much as what it meant back when he was an awakened

                  They are several time stronger than others because of their skills, it's literally explained
                  Don't ask me why these morrons are still using swords against heavy armor or why abilities do not prevail against swordmanship in this world when it should but it just is what is it
                  Apparently being an incredible swordmaster is more important than having a broken ass ability

                  But I will tell you what, if cores were really that important in term of strenght, than the moon girl wouldn't even be able to cross swords with nephis, since she has seven and that the girl has one, and yet, she still does
                  Now I know what your retarded brain is gonna cook up, I can see it coming a mile away, you're gonna say : "No, but you don't understand, it's because she has tools to augment her strenght and her speed, you see"
                  They all do, you f#cking morron and if the number of cores was as important as it was when they were mere sleepers and awakened being, just crossing blade with nephis would send her blade flying due to the difference of strenght, but it doesn't, which proves that the boost is either not there or that it isn't that significant
                  And least I remind you, but the number of boosts equipement can provide is limited, meaning that no amount could ever bring you up to what a titan could reach in term of raw strenght if cores were truly working like they were before and were proportional to your strenght
                  You see, back on the forgotten shore, nephis having 3 to 4 cores while sunny had one was enough to make the fight completely one sided, even with plot helping him and nephis holding back
                  So you can guess, what kind of shitshow it would be if the strenght the core were bringing were proportional to their ranks and that someone was fighting with seven against one, it wouldn't even be a match to begin with
                  Here, you want another exemple of how insignificant they really are ?
                  Back in the second knighmare, sunny with four cores was getting overpowered by an effie with one aspect, now you might argue that her power is broken or that sunny was nerfed to put effie on piedestral, but the truth is that if there were really all that much or that the author was thinking about his consistency, the mc would have owned effie in no time, especially, when he was augmented too at that time
                  So no, power ups linked to cores are trash late in the game, and it's not what determine the strenght of a saint
                  That's what I meant when I said that their power ups were probably a fixed amount of stats or a very marginal amounts of strenght proportional to their rank, not able to tip the balance off, when fighting against someone in their own league

                  Now what were the other stupidities that you were talking about earlier ?
                  A yes, the little amount of fragments that sunny was supposed to gain from slaughtering monsters and the reservoir pools linked to titans
                  well, little brain donor, you see but slaying a great beast do not only give him one shard, but two, and slaying one that is asleep is probably not that hard to pull off in the first place
                  And with nightmare by his side, farming the remaining 5000 fragments isn't even that hard to pull of in the first place
                  I mean sure, if they were awake, it would be kind of hard, but how hard is it to slaughter a bunch of sleeping ennemies, I wonder .... probably not that hard, so no, reaching titanhood is a f#cking walk in the park
                  The only reason why he coudln't is either because he didn't want too, is too retarded for it, or has other things to do, but realistically, which so much time on your hands and so many incarnations doing nothing, it's just not possible
                  I mean who are we kidding, repairing a temple doesn't take one year for someone that is determined, least of all for someone with 6 bodies and superhuman strenght
                  So no, I don't buy it for a second
                  And the whole thing about the reservoir of essence, is straight up retarded, I swear to god
                  If sunny and nephis were having such large pools of essence they would almost never run dry on it and yet they did many times over
                  Now it can only means to things, either that they consomme it like pigs or that their essence isn't that big to begin with, spoiler, it's the second
                  You're here praising how large a titan pool is in comparaison to a normal being, but if it was the case, then people could almost never use their abilities to begin with and sunny's ability that he almost never uses are really not that expensive to begin with
                  So no, having 6 or 7 cores doesn't multiply your essence pool by a billion, it merely gives it 6 to 7 times it's original potential, one pool by cores, which does make a lot of sense, and explain all that happened before and is still happening now
                  So the next time you feel like oppening your mouth and trying to sound like a smartass, don't, because you really suck at it, you and all that little fanclub of yours
                  And if you really need me to poin it out, but before giving anyone else advice, you might be better off, following your own
