    Why can’t all the awakened just go to sleep and just abandon their physical body and become lost. Like having 1% chance of becoming a master is better than commiting suicide here

      There’s a gate in the wall, close enough to yoink them in. They’d be separated and trapped in an area filled with horrific monsters, with the only escape being to find a Nightmare Seed, challenging it alone, and hoping to become a Master. I’m sure some people will take that risk. Most of them, however, find it to be the difference between dying to the Winter Beast and dying to unknown horrors. In general, people find the known less scary than the unknown. Additionally, the soldiers, and especially the refugee soldiers, probably feel as though they are duty bound to protect the people who are fleeing.

      It’s suicide vs suicide, but one way of dying is known and the other is not.

      Oh, and, the members of the First Army have first evacuation priority. Any who don’t want to fight the Winter Beast can just leave. So I guess there’s no reason to try to brave the nightmare lmao
