      It's not about "just squeezing 3 more people", it's about keeping a shaky order. The moment it is broken (even by one person) is the moment the other desperate ones will feel more justified to turn the whole process into a stampede, trying to claim their spots using stupid excuses. For now, there's at least some semblance of order, otherwise a lot of people would die.

      So you are simply saying they are more valuable because they can save more people if they don't die. But the human brain doesn't always work like that. I am surprised you couldn't comprehend it or think of it as a forced plot after reading this book or many other books online.
