    With the theory of 1 death = 1 gate of the same rank, this is... Terrifying news. Not that we don't already have more than enough gates of that category here, but one more is always bound to bring doom

        Tell me more. In my eyes, it makes perfect sense. Especially with one sovereign dead = one rank 5 gate that opened.
        At first, only sleepers died in their first nightmare, letting out the lowest rank gate monsters from within themselves. Then, gates came. At that point, awakened already existed. And especially if this got a little mixed up: The time-as-a-river theory. The gates appear close to a death, maybe later, maybe earlier.
        As masters came to be, slowly, more higher ranked gates opened. Otherwise humanity would have died right off the bat.

          remember saint is category three,sovereign category 4 and sacred category 5.
          by your logic there had to have been a sacred at some point when there were barely saints on earth and that sacred had to have died.wouldnt make sense to me

            No, no. Mundane human is rank 1. Awakened rank 2. Ascended rank 3. Saints rank 4. Sovereigns rank 5. It fits.

            edit: it's not about their actual ranks, it's about what gate-rank they produce. Sleepers who fail their nightmare produce a rank one gate within themselves.

              Wait what?! I could have sworn this death only produces a gate because of nightmare seeds which occur in Sleeper deaths (Nightmare spell and all that) or unconquered ones in the Dream Realm. Furthermore the actual causation is speculated by Professor Obel to be not the death but ascension of humans causing ripples in space and time.

              i dont know why i never saw this comment but this completely wrong. awakened dont produce ranked gates. if this was the case then there should have been millions of gates across the world already witch has not happened since they would be overrun already. sleeper would be rank 1, rank 2 is ascended rank 3 saint 4 sovereign
