      From my understanding of this kind of novel in general, devil sect are sect that needs to do evil to grow stronger (think of sect where the cultivator needs to torture innocent to harness the resentement and use that as tonic to grow in strenght, ofc thats just an exemple there are many others)

      Generally, when the main technique of the sect make you kill or destroy others, your a devil sect.

      Then the demon sect are those that don't wish to be bound by moral. "You wish to kill ? Then kill ! You wish to rape ? Then rape ! Ofc you don't have to and its not really benefic for you but if you wanna do that im not gonna stop you !" Thats the kind of mentality in this kind of sect.

      So they are neutral, but since human nature is dirty, they tend to become indirectly evil without being a devil sect.
