Chapter 82: Qi Yun: Spending money, I’m afraid I can’t spend more!

In the previous life, starting from the year after the next, the provincial capital initiated extensive urban construction projects.

Every time Qi Yun returned to the provincial capital during that period, he couldn’t help but notice that the city was engulfed in construction, accompanied by smoke and congested traffic everywhere he looked.

Among them, the southeastern suburban area of the provincial capital, where this factory was situated, experienced the most rapid growth. The main reason behind this was the relocation of the provincial government offices to this area, turning it into the new city center. The influx of government employees to this region acted as a catalyst for the surrounding development.

Schools, shopping malls, and new residential areas were built.

Although it looked like a suburban area, he could even see farmland by walking a little further.

But in a few years, any farmer with a piece of land here could easily earn millions.

Buying this place would definitely be a pure profit.

However, for Qi Yun, all of this wasn’t important. After all, who could beat the system when it comes to making money?

The land might be good, but he would have to wait a few years to cash it out.

By that time, with the system, who knows how much money he could earn from it!

What Qi Yun was most satisfied with was the price. While others might find it expensive, he found it just right.

He wouldn’t want it if it was any cheaper!

The 2 million, considered as Lian Qingxue’s 30% share, would give Qi Yun a rebate of 6 million.

For Qi Yun, the price wasn’t a problem. Being too cheap was the problem!

The most important thing was the condition of the factory and whether it could support Lian Qingxue’s dream of a milk tea empire.

Looking at it, both Lian Qingxue and Qi Yun were relatively satisfied.

……

While Qi Yun and the others looked around the factory, the workers outside gradually became restless.

“Old Wu, do you think it will work this time?” Someone asked the middle-aged man who was leading them.

“I think it’s difficult! Those two people who came to buy the factory look like students!”

Before Old Wu could speak, someone interrupted.

Old Wu sighed, “We haven’t received our wages for half a year. What can we do?”

There were only about twenty workers.

The other workers couldn’t wait any longer and gave up on demanding their wages, going out to find other jobs. After all, they had to support their families.

Those who stayed here had some urgent family matters or a stubborn temper and didn’t want to be taken advantage of.

Old Wu certainly wants to go out and work to earn money, but he has a young daughter at home. His wife is no longer around, and his parents are old and can’t care for the child.

How can he leave his daughter at home alone?

But if he doesn’t go out to work, there will be no money to support the family.

Thinking of this, Old Wu’s back bent a little more.

“If I don’t get paid today, I’m planning to go to the south. I’ve already bought my ticket.”

A woman spoke up.

Old Wu didn’t know what to say.

On one hand, if one person leaves, they would lose some manpower and the possibility of getting paid decreases. But on the other hand, the woman’s situation wasn’t easy either.

She had two children to feed and had to go out to earn money.

That was normal.

After the woman spoke, the crowd fell silent.

Some people started sobbing quietly. Old Wu’s mood became even heavier.

Should he give up? Leave his children with his parents and go out to work?

He reached out and felt in his pocket, wanting to find a cigarette to smoke.

But he found nothing.

Old Wu couldn’t help but smile bitterly.

In the current situation, he couldn’t even afford a two-yuan cigarette.

……

When Qi Yun and Lian Qingxue came out, their faces were filled with longing and despair.

Director Zhang followed behind them.

The workers, including Old Wu, stared at Qi Yun, wanting to see what he would say.

“I just looked at the factory, and I think it’s great,” Qi Yun said.

The factory had new equipment and clean and tidy workshops, indicating that the workers had been diligent in their work.

“Director Zhang mentioned a request to me, wanting me to make up the wages for the workers in the factory, at least for three months.”

“To be honest, I don’t think it’s enough!” The glimmer of hope in Old Wu’s eyes shattered.

Still not enough? At this moment, Qi Yun spoke again.

“I think we should make up the wages for at least six months!”

Old Wu looked up at Qi Yun, thinking he had misheard.

“Not only six months, but I also plan to give a 20% raise to all of you who choose to continue working in the factory!”

“For those who have gone out to work and don’t want to come back, please inform them that I will still make up the wages. If they come back, their salary will also be increased!”

When Qi Yun said these words, the entire factory fell silent.

No one spoke.

“Sir… Is what you’re saying really true?”

“Of course, it’s true! After I sign the contract with Director Zhang, I’ll distribute the money on the spot.”

Qi Yun nodded and smiled. He had his own motives for doing this.

On the one hand, the more money he spent on acquiring the factory, the better ir would be for him.

However, the system’s limitations prevented him from spending unreasonable amount of money. But Qi Yun felt that making up the unpaid wages and giving the workers a small raise were reasonable.

Just with the two statements Qi Yun made earlier, he might have to spend an additional 500,000 to 600,000 yuan.

According to Lian Qingxue’s 30% share, he would earn an extra 1 to 2 million yuan.

Great!

On the other hand, it was also because of these workers. This factory had been in operation for over ten years and had always been profitable. The workers were skilled laborers.

Qi Yun chose this factory because of their strong production capacity. Retaining these workers was also important to developing the milk tea shop industry.

How to retain them?

By spending money!

……

When Old Wu heard Qi Yun’s affirmation, his nose felt sour, wanting to say something but finding his throat choked up. He didn’t say anything and just deeply bowed to Qi Yun.

Qi Yun quickly reached out to support him, but he soon found that he couldn’t support everyone.

One after another, adults bowing down, Qi Yun couldn’t help but feel a bit bitter. Although he had little intention of helping them, he was still making money for himself!

You’re making it so emotional, and I feel guilty!

Lian Qingxue, who was watching Qi Yun’s slightly flustered state, couldn’t help but laugh. She knew what Qi Yun was doing was a bit foolish, but she liked it…

...This novel is starting to annoy me, looking at how much control the chinese government has and how this guy keeps spending money haphazardly that he shouldn't even have is irritating, it's like he's setting himself up for failure. I know not to expect realism when reading this, but this literally feels more ridiculous than cultivation.

Well, money is just a side thing in the novel. I think the author wanted to write about a rich young master and his love story, but it wouldn't feel as good if so. He decided to make his family average and add the system as a reason why he's spoiling her, and how is he able to.

That's why you see some plot holes, like the fact that no one cares about how he got the money. So, I gave up caring about it. I'm just here to enjoy the light love story.

And as I said, this novel is light-hearted; it isn't supposed to annoy you. I advise you to stop reading if you're getting annoyed because the novel will lose its point, lol.

yeah I understand that, usually I read more serious webnovels but I was feeling stressed, so decided to read a light-hearted novel but as I am a dumbass I decided to start focusing on parts that I knew weren't the focus of the author. It's hard to turn your brain off when usually I'm trying to gleam the philosophies and thought processes of the characters and author while reading...

lol, you are not brother, I know how you feel and experienced it before. Sometimes, when we're used to diving deep into the nuances of novels, it's tough to switch gears and enjoy a lighter read without overthinking it. I get how focusing on the side elements can throw things off. If you're feeling stressed and looking for a break, maybe it's time to switch back to those more serious novels that align better with your usual style.

I am just here to waste time and rest my brain since I got the hobby of writing lately, I advise you to try it out too if you don't feel like reading the serious ones, even if for a personal read. it might help you clear your brain out. you never know, you might make a novel that is good enough for you to feel comfortable sharing.

thanks for the suggestion, actually this is how I study for philosophy and psychology. It sounds a bit silly, but as an example I was learning about consciousness, so I devised a power system for an MC.

He cultivates the soul dao (manipulation of consciousness) under it are two main groups illusion dao (manipulation of perception in an awake state) and dream dao (manipulation of perception in asleep state). So like you can make a soul ability that manipulates the consciousness to selectively focus on things, and so selectively inattentive towards other things (not selectively focused on) allowing for misdirection (illusion techniques). Or following the information process theory, that dreams help sort and process the day's events, a dream ability can be used to confuse the enemies perception of reality and memory, maybe even brainwashing.

The bold parts are the main terms- the real life psychological ideas, underline are the relevant parts, the rest is just to frame it for myself.

This sort of stuff may may be very unrealistic as there is no indepth explanation on how one can manipulate the consciousness remotely, but it helps me remember better and makes studying more fun since I connect it to my hobbies.

Edited a little to make it more clear which parts are real ideas lmao

It's tough to imagine how difficult it must have been before, lol.
But I do like the idea of using stories to understand and remember subjects. I used to use poetry to help me remember things in school (they weren't great, but they did help a bit), or I would make new words from the first letters of the words I needed to remember, and else.

I actually have a section in the novel I'm writing now talking about this, not about a system or anything like that since there isn't one, but about the "making studying more fun." part, adding it to the background story of the MC.

I'm glad you found a way to make things more interesting. And I'm sorry for the late reply, I didn't get any notifications for some reason. FamilyGuy057

No worries, even if you had replied early I most likely wouldn't have gotten it considering I was studying for my exam. Btw what's the novel you are writing?

I'm actually writing two novels. The first one, a fantasy novel with a philosophical plot, is currently on pause.

However, I assume you're referring to the second one, which is a fan-fiction. I've always been a fan of "ASOIAF" and its show "Game of Thrones", but I noticed a lack of good fan fiction for it (probably because GRRM hates them, lol). So, I've decided to write one as my first novel. It could also be good practice since, as I mentioned, I can't seem to find any good ones.

I can't say a lot, but I can provide an overview of our discussion. It's about the MC creating a small project that earned a significant amount of money in his first life (It is a reincarnation novel, and the plot needed him to have some money, so I included it. I don't like unresolved plot points, so I preferred not to just say "He is rich" and move on). He initiated the project at school, aiming to transform school subjects into games, puzzles, and similar activities. This endeavor was successful and eventually evolved into a full-fledged company with the primary goal of making studying an enjoyable and engaging experience.

Sorry if I wrote too much hehe, ask me if you have any more questions.

Edit: I hope you do well on your exam, brother. Avoid reading novels if you can. I failed many exams because of novels, lol.

I'm not really a fan of Game of Thrones and have never seen it or read a fanfiction, but this premise of turning subjects into games I am a fan of. Studying is quite honestly pretty interesting, but tiring to me and if I had it in a form to amuse me it would probably make my life easier. I can atleast relate to that on a nearly spiritual level...

So this part is quite nice, but I kinda want to know more about the fantasy novel with a philosophical plot. I've recently been trying to find such books, but as I usually read Xianxia the prominent prominent philosophy is "might makes right" which is kinda true for every aspect of justice but I've seen it too many times.

I hope I can encounter a Xianxia novel where instead cultivation is really cultivation of insight about the world around and yourself, exploring consciousness, Identity, universe, etc. That would be so much more interesting... but I wager the market for that wouldn't be too high and would require too much thinking, not to mention people don't necessarily agree on theories.

What aspects are you exploring in that novel? and why'd you pause it?

Understandable since it's not everyone's cup of tea. I'm glad you share my enthusiasm about the subject; it has always been on my mind too. I may not enjoy studying as much as you do, but I know it's necessary. If I find any interest in studying, it will be the things I enjoy learning about, like; languages.

As for the first novel, it's a personal project for me that I've always thought about writing, dealing with my questions in life. I wrote the background of the main character as my real-life background and the experiences I've been through, so you can see how much it means to me lol.

Can't say much, but I will tell you some stuff. It's about swords and magic, and not Xianxia. I plan to do more interesting stuff with the arcs, where everything has to mean something to the plot instead of fillers. For that, I want it to be fully free when I share it, just in case I start making some money and lose my purpose (sorry if I sound arrogant lol, not my intention but can't find a better way to put it).

As for what it is, this will be the major plot that is revealed way later so I can't talk about it lol. But I can tell you it has something to do with suffering in the MC's first life, then adventure/fun in the 2nd, how the 2nd life becomes as it is, and how everything connects later to form the bigger picture (the plot). And no, it is not about "A loser MC gets a second chance and becomes the best" type of novel. As much as I enjoy these novels, I give them the name "Trash fun novels".

I paused because the novel style was a bit serious and might not be "fun", but a good read nonetheless (at least I hope it will be). So I pretty much have one chance; you either love it or hate it. I decided to write a FF first to see if my writing level is acceptable, then go back to finish it with the experience.

Sorry again for the long message, and hope this answers you.
