    Sigh, dropping it. Too monotonous.

    Big part of what seems to bring this down is... The MC. There's too much of a detachment and disconnect between him and the others. He doesn't really seem to care much about anything other than the mundane goal of reaching this ABCD cultivation stage, follow the path of immortality bla bla, which, isn't interesting.

    The cultivation system in the story isn't
    inherently interesting by itself, and so the only thing left outside of it is the MC since he clearly doesn't want to associate with others much and only keep it only it at a transactional stage, largely removing the component of relations as well. So, if you can't sympathize with the MC much or like him, will then, there's not much left to the novel in that case.

    From what I remember, the reincarnation cheat he had was supposed to prevent him from turning him into an uncaring old foggy while still keeping his memories, but I see that it clearly isn't working properly lol.

    Also, it might not be clear due to the overall negative tone of the review but the story is actually good if you don't mind the things I have problem with, like obviously the author has talent, it's just that this work is not going to be something I'm going to enjoy reading, so I'm leaving while I can.

      It's not that he doesn't care it's quite the opposite he cares way too much, to me it seems more like he fears to get attached so he makes tentative bonds and always leaves a room to keep his distance if necessary. In fact the way he does things makes it quite apparent that he's not unfeeling and deeply cherished almost all the long term bonds he did end up forming. Even if most of these people had a lower lifespan than him/died early.

      On the contrary, it is what I like about the book. The author has reasons for keeping the MC detached. One is to avoid the endless detours of stopping whatever the MC was doing to rush in to save a fling or friend from an enemy he offended. His resources and time would be stretched thin the more he entangles himself. That isn't to mean he is uncaring as he does support all his old friends and their offspring. The kindness he receives, he always reciprocates, often two fold.

      Two, like the title says, the MC will be "Everlasting" unless you are prepared to be Genghis Khan. It does not make sense to build relations. MC is 419 years old last I checked. If he had kids say at 50, it would have ballooned into a enormous family very quickly. This would drag the story down with lots of characters and drama we don't care about. It would also limit the MC freedom and actions, meaning he can't escape when he wants to. All his actions would have to consider all his family, friends etc. While this can be enjoyable in other novels, watching the MC build his empire, it isn't the story the author set out to tell I think.

    I highly recommend this one. I would not put it with the very top novels like LOTM or RI, but in terms of generic cultivation novels this is the best one I have ever encountered.

    The moments of common sense and rationality in this novel feel wonderful if you have been annoyed by nonsense in the past.
