Lan Chang’an has gone through two lifetimes of reincarnations, and in the third life, he aimed for stability until reaching the Nascent Soul Realm in hopes of unraveling the mysteries of the Nine Seal Stele. Consequently, he cultivated the Ancient Trees Evergreen Technique, which wielded modest power in return for greater lifespan.

His approach is not one of fearlessly engaging in battles, but of navigating with steady precision and forging meaningful bonds with others.

Throughout his long cultivation journey, he encountered individuals at various stages of their cultivation, including a Decent Faction Head, a Prodigious Beauty, a Giant Demon Lord, an Evil Cultivator, a Thousand-Year Old Demon, and a Puppet Master Pulling Strings From Behind The Scene.

Observing the ebb and flow of the world, witnessing its ups and downs, he unknowingly became a living fossil in the realm of cultivation, akin to an evergreen tree spanning through eternity.

In the world of mortals, the flow of life is steady, shrouded in the illusion of longevity, yet decisions are made decisively, with a clear sense of morality. Collapse

Fellow Daoist, if thou findest thyself yearning for another tale of similar essence, might I humbly recommend 'An Alchemist’s Path to Eternity'.

Its rhythm flows with measured grace, and the protagonist walks his path with a cautious heart, much like the one we follow here. The Dao in the scripture, too, is of fine quality, making it a worthy journey for any seeker of the Dao.

I tried reading it but it moved little too slow for me, especially his Cultivation stage. Does it get fast in later chapters?

Just saw this on the most recent mtl chapter on this website
Recently, I've been suffering from insomnia. Even after taking melatonin, it has no effect, and I end up sleeping later and later. To make matters worse, the plot has somewhat stalled, my spirits are low, and my inspiration has run dry. Some authors suggested that this humble author could 'water it down' a bit, but I can't even bring myself to 'water it down'.

Anyways it was stuck at like 479 or 496 for months a while ago on the Chinese source page, so this has been going on for a while. At this point I think something has to be done with writers health in general because most books end either badly or are cut off because of these types of problems, it’s so sad

Well as long as the author eventually pushes out a half assed conclusion I'll be happy, it sad that it has become more and more common for decent story to end up just being abandoned half way, that it's kinda though too

Sad we’re still in the mortal world. I haven’t read this in a long time so it’s a little blurry but I’m pretty sure there’s a mysterious immortal realm or something right? I think we won’t see anything related to that

Well there are other world for sure, and the current world is vast and landmass fragmented/mostly isolated from each other. It was eluded that higher world strata exists but I can easily imagine with the scope as is that the mc might just not get to go there.

              Yeah I’ve seen the mc
, I think it’s in the recent translated chapters as well. I’m pretty sure there was talk about a path to the immortal realm being severed or broken, and that caused some problems? The way I see it the author would at most show the mc finding the path and ascending, while leaving an open ending. Even that would be an ok ending, better than just ending it where it is right now

    At chap-514(reading)
This is one of the most consistent Xianxia novels I’ve read, and I dare say it’s the best Mortal-Path Xianxia novel of 2025. It’s a highly enjoyable read—so much so that the real frustration is the lack of chapters. The raws are only around 514+, and the author really needs to pick up the pace. Truly a binge-worthy experience that many veteran readers will find worthwhile. Yes, there are clichés here and there, but you’ll forget them because the story’s pacing is ruthless and clean, without the usual filler. Honestly, it feels like 1000 chapters of RMJI compressed into 500 chapters of this novel.
    Pros:
-Ruthless pacing—no wasted words, no fillers.
-MC explores multiple paths beyond cultivation: alchemy, arts, and more.
-Unique and effective goldfinger (cheat) that sets it apart.
-Solid translation—definitely above average compared to many others (much better than Mysteries of Immortal Puppet).
-Strong worldbuilding that complements the narrative well.
-A pragmatic MC who balances caution with ruthlessness.
-No brainless face-slapping; villains are intelligent and often push the MC to the edge.

    Cons:
-The start may feel slow-paced, but fellow Daoists, you won’t regret it. Soon enough, you’ll be lamenting the lack of chapters as you get hooked.
-Release speed is an issue: only one chapter a day, and it’s already catching up to the raws.
-Some sexual encounters are present (mentioned, not vividly described) very low emotional attachments to romance.
-Morality is on the bleaker side—the MC is grey, more pragmatic and vengeful than characters like Han Li (RMJI) or Wang Lin (RI).
-Sometimes the MC acts like a real turtle—hesitant and overly cautious—which can be frustrating.

Final Verdict: As a long-time Xianxia fan, I give this a 4.7/5. It’s a rare gem of 2025—consistent, binge-worthy, and a true delight for readers who crave ruthless pacing and sharp storytelling.

    A solid 4.5 stars.

The progression per chapter pace is similar to early RMJI, so you know a story is being recounted and it's not junk food.

As for the plot itself, it's shaping up to be also similar to RMJI, in the way that a supposedly great cheat doesn't make the MC fearless to slap young masters left and right as he doesn't have the power to handle it freely.

Plus, along his cultivation journey, he also gets great opportunities, even if they feel less earned to Han Li, as here the MC doesn't engage in risk knowingly and expecting a great reward, but we readers are here for this kind of character so we can't complain.

I pause my reading here as it seems a great plot is opening up with the
, so I'll let it build up for a bit.

All in all, it's a really solid deliverance of the premise we were promised.

Also also, many many thanks to the translator Zilawere🙏 clap
