This is a story about a graduate student of ancient Chinese who was repeatedly trampled on the road to employment, and returned to the middle of the Ming Dynasty and entered the body of a young child in a mountain village.

There are many disputes in the farmyard With a dull father, a fierce mother, and a group of extremely bad relatives.

Fortunately, we have thousands of years of historical accumulation, the Four Books and Five Classics, and the Eight-part Essays, and the majors are also suitable.

Who says that it is difficult for a poor family to produce a noble son?

The national strength has risen, and the rule of law has been relaxed; the law and discipline are lax, and the official discipline is lazy; there are a few treacherous ministers, and there are also some Japanese pirates; but overall, it can be said that this is a fertile ground for the free growth of scholars and officials.

A legend of the rise of a poor family also grew from here Collapse

Wait a minute... Published in 2015? 2200+ chapters and still ongoing? Please have mercy, this seems to be needlessly lengthy.

It's going to take so long for all this to be translated, if at all...

I feel like the dark side of MTL is calling to me...

Edit: The MTL here is quite bad. Some chapters are even missing.

So, I've been reading it from here instead:
    https://www.fanmtl.com/novel/6951202.html

I find it much better, although there seem to be issues with numerical values in there on the other hand.

    Or from here,
    https://69shu.com/book/51202.htm
Just use Google translate or something to translate the pages, it's good enough.

Unfortunately, tsundere doesn't work well when the MC is made to be so clueless.

Not to mention that the MC has a stubbornly negative view of her because of those initial interactions, forget about the fact that they've known each for almost a decade at this point.

Their interactions at this point often turn into insult-fests, mostly ending up hurting FML (although she doesn't take it to heart for too long) because he doesn't really know her feelings and thinks that she hates him.

It doesn't help that she always puts up a facade of never putting MC in the eyes just so he doesn't realize her feelings, I'm unsure as to why she goes so far though. I guess she's just taking her Tsundere role too seriously. oru2x

Yeah, obviously it's not pleasent to read at times when it's not being strictly humour. Don't know what the author was thinking tbh.

Idk when this drama between the two will conclude.

This is what I think having read 300 chapters or so.

Don't listen to the whinny ass bitches below me. The novel is good. Better than one would expected to this kind of novel. The progression made it enjoyable and the information made me vividly imagine the ancient china of early 16th century. It's a good novel, read it.

No need to start insulting others because they didn't like something you do. It discredits what you're trying to say.

Could've said it in a different way.

That aside, I'm liking the story so far I think.

Personally, I believe that, whether someone's going to like this or not is going to be a matter of taste. The novel is good enough by itself.

The novel would have been better if MC had more self respect. He is supposedly clever but always falls into traps laid by others and there is a girl with superiority complex who always insults him, but he just takes it. I guess the author could not think of more creative ways to introduce conflicts in this story.

The translation is very bad and im certain it is just an AI translation but a poor one at that as it seems like nobody even bothered to fix massive issues with a prompt. There is alot of nationalism and it even turns into blatant racism at times. It's just very boring and not much is happening as in the mc is just "diligent" and because of that he consistently rises.

Sometimes, you stumble upon a tale not with a bang, but with a quiet pull—like mist curling through old courtyards. If you're burnt out from cultivation power scaling, overdone magic, or another mindless harem, this novel offers an unexpected reprieve.

What caught me wasn’t just the premise of a modern man dropped into ancient China—it was how alive the era felt. You can almost smell the ink and hear the soft rustle of official robes. The author clearly has a historian’s heart (and perhaps credentials), weaving believable, grounded facts into the fabric of the plot.
Some might find the focus on bureaucracy, policies, or old court rituals too dry. Me? I found it deeply immersive. This isn’t a power fantasy; it’s a slow burn about change, idealism, and understanding a world long past.

But let me share something off the page too: A rather bold soul recently took offense at the way I write my reviews—said it must be AI, said it’s too stylized. And it got me thinking... if something I pour heart into resonates with readers, if even one person finds joy, or picks up a book they love because of it—should I really stop? What say you, fellow wanderers?

Because as long as people find value in words, I’ll keep sharing mine. I’ll be reading this novel to the last ink stroke—and maybe, leaving a few of my own along the way.

Forget what that one bold soul said—what you’re doing? It’s thoughtful, and deeply appreciated. Not everything needs to scream to be heard; sometimes, it’s the quiet ink strokes that linger the longest. Your reviews carry heart, depth, and a love for storytelling that resonates.

So yeah—screw the noise. Keep doing exactly what you’re doing. We’re out here, reading, nodding, and feeling a little less alone thanks to your words. It's much better to find even a single review even if it's borrowed or yours truly, it's much helpful. Just give out those reviews cause it's good rather than brain rot

I like the novel (mostly due to my personal bias of novels set in ancient china) but honestly, it’s like the author blue balls us constantly with his horrid use of shock factor making the mc look pathetic, I couldn’t care less most of the time but the author doesn’t know how to tone it down so it ends up being excessive, so fellow daoists proceed with caution as you will get frustrated

Underrated comment of the year. Jesus fliiping burgers, I almost threw my phone out of the window in pure rage. How can an adult keep getting trolled by a girl? She is pure rage bait. Dropped at ch. 47.

Based on some reviews, I was expecting to have to push through some cringe early chapters to get to the good parts of the novel.

However, the complaints I saw about the first couple arcs turned out to really exaggerated. The story is great from the beginning. Although it does get better around chapter 80, since childhood stuff is naturally less interesting than when the MC starts doing more meaningful stuff.

I like the story enough that I was tempted to go to Patreon for advance chapters.

Lol right? Atleast the expections are low by just looking at the group's name.

It can't be worse than MTL though...

Edit: TL seems to be fine, I didn't find it weird
