This is gonna be a long one so lets get it out of the way. Despite its many annoyances and my own personally gripes with some decision, I'm absolute(pun intended) in my recommendation to read this novel.

    General(pros):
Story is immensely fun and the progression is wonderful. With incredible worldbuilding that leaves you desiring more.

Many (including me at times) find the mc and his morality annoying but, it actually grants him a lot of nuance and personality which you usually don't get from these system/op mc stories.

Though the world is hardcore and at times almost excessively hostile to our mc, I personally love it as I feel it pushes our mc into terrible situations that require a nimble mind and decisive action.

I've seen some complain about the use of alternate povs but I'm of the opinion that it was generally well used. It mostly glazed the mc or gave us a unique perspective on upcoming events which was appreciated.

    Characters(cons):
Most characters here are perfectly serviceable and remain enjoyable to read the whole way through. The few that fail at this though, really sour the experience for me.

Lets start with our resident mind flayer first. While I see the usefulness of Sophia both as a facilitator of dealings and a terrifying tool to bend the will of anyone who messes with our mc(not a combatant cause Op mc), I like many others believe she should have died. Her power is too terrifying and the fact we know she can be controlled by other mind benders will most certainly create a disgusting plot point later in the story; I can feel it. Whilst I understand perfectly well that this might not happen, the nature of putting mind f#ckery in a story like this her presence automatically creates deadly liability leading to unneeded tension and problems. (Also just hate mind bullshit)

Our absolute Lissandra is also a pos and should have played a smaller role than she ended up doing. I feel like the mc struggling but persevering to use his mana with just Lissandra's initial showing would have been a brilliant move in showing his love, dedication, and overall talent in mana while also giving us a more in depth showcase of its horrific limitations. Which, the novel seems to show a shocking lack of. It just comes of feeling like anyone without a specific talent like Kinetic not investing in mana is an idiot; which, If I'm to guess, was decidedly not the goal.

Overall I think the rating on this website almost perfectly represents this novels score. 3.95/5

Neither of your cons are really valid, and you missed stuff like blatant plot armor, issues with writing style, the silliness of everything about the Earth PoVs, sometimes excessive and unwarranted glazing of the MC, etc.

Not liking mind f#ckery is not a con, and you didn't explain why its existence *is* a negative — you think with so many different abilities, the mind/soul would remain an inviolable sanctuary? That would actually be a con, a hole in the story.
With your "argument" that Sophia isn't a combatant because "OP MC", we can conclude no one is a combatant except the MC, again, because "OP MC". Congrats. This con is just public crying.

And nothing about Lissandra's role is "bad", clearly being the MC's mentor — most stories have one, or multiple. "Our absolute is a pos", OK, and? That's it? Other novels have pos as MCs, that's not an argument in itself.
The novel does not make it seem as though people favoring other stats than Mana are stupid, that's your blindness impeding you from seeing other characters' abilities, especially in Beyond.

Nevermind, it's 3 cons, one being a vague "I don't like some characters". Which ones? Why do you dislike them? Why is it a con? Sigh.

That said, I give it a lower score, 3.75/5 (7.5/10), or lower. I feel like it should be lower, but it's just a feeling — I don't know what criteria to "penalize" further.

I stopped at chapter 68, the MC is unbearable, of course no one wants a nice guy protagonist, but this is clearly a psychopath who has no feelings and doesn't see people as people, the kind of guy you wouldn't get close to in real life

But it's worth reading the first arc, which is quite interesting, due to its low power construction and being somewhat tribal survival.

Will do a proper review after I catch up (currently 390) but I just came here to vent and say I hate Lissandra. She's such bs character and even if I understand her reason to be here, I don't like her or the role shes meant to play. Would have instead liked to see the mc really struggle with his obsession with mana and try to find shoddy work arounds with debilitating side-effects on him. In my opinion, it would sell his love for mana so much more and would also provide an incredible payoff for when he actually stumbles into a good solution or a competent actually caring master/teacher which Lissandra is only one of. She just sucks.

You say you don't like her role, then finish by saying the MC would stumble upon a master later on. Make it make sense, I guess, though seeing your Review above prepared me for such stuff.

Realized that black people beating people up when they call them monkeys or a nonsense word "nigger" directly proves that they are closer to monkeys, unlike white people when they are called cracker and just move on with their day. I also know that some black people aren't like this, but a significant portion is to prove my point. Also it's really funny to see them chimp out.

Wot? Crackers is a slur for white people? I thought it was, uh... nvm, I never knew such a thing existed
Also I know the n word as something that's simply politically incorrect for a non-black to say, and when someone does say it it's considered more a spectacle than an insult, so it's kinda hard for me to emphasize

Yeah, and i see your point, i am using the extreme examples of what happens when people use the n word. Does not make for great overall data, but people are the truest to themselves in extreme circumstances. And yeah, the whole cracker thing is just really silly. The BLM movement came up with it, and then the KKK pointed out it also means someone who cracks a whip. They tried a couple more after that, and then it came out that the leader of BLM had stolen a ton of the donations and bought herself a mansion, and that was the end of that.
In conclusion, i see your point, i just want to err on the irrational to expect extreme.

MC f#cked her up pretty bad soon enough and she willingly chose to ally herself with him. There’s actually no simping here whatsoever.
The only problem with females in the novel is that MC doesn’t want to acknowledge them and is absolutely frigid. How the f#ck a grown up man has no desire in women is above my understanding.
I would’ve understood it if the author chose “only training, no wasting time for anything else” trope, but later on MC understood that he would face constant burnout with such schedule so he had some free time regularly. Why not enjoy yourself a bit if you have already decided to, I don’t know…

Are you an idiot or what? My whole comment was about finding a work-life balance for the MC. Your stupid otaku brain doesn’t understand that it is in human nature to create social connections and crave for belonging. One can’t live a meaningful life by only grinding and not experiencing different aspects of life.

Throughout the novel MC has huge character growth with overcoming social awkwardness and trust issues. But he still refuses to acknowledge women and that is incredibly irritating when he has at least 3 in his group who blatantly show interest in him…

    Story Development: 4
    Writing Quality: 3
    World Background: 4
    Character Design: 3

    As of chapter 179.

Let's start with the plot. A group of people from a bus get transported to the tutorial. It's set at hell difficulty, the highest you can get picked to.

From the very beginning, the main character shines. He has some sort of battle instinct and immediately uses mana, though only subconsciuosly.

Everyone gets 2 skills, one common and the other "fitting" them. Fitting, because there are exceptions to this rule, and author just mentioned it casually after a hundred chapters. So mc gets his Focus, which helped him in battle and Mana Manipulation, or sth.

He is a genius when it comes to mana. Unfortunately, there are other people there. His abilities just suck, compared to what others can do. For example Desintegration skill, which literally disintegrates anything.

Anyway, there is this girl named Sophie,

    Secondly

The author really hates Nathan. He gives him multiple obstacles, in forms of his "comrades". Mc only snaps, after someone hurt the girl (Lily), that has crush on him. He explains that he owes her.
Nathaniel kills 2 guys he just met, and wants to kill Sophie, the bitch who tried killing him, but Lily makes him stop.

It's really frustrating to watch his enemies still live, just because of some nonexisting morals he has. At the beginning he appeared cold and ruthless, but later he's just a big joke.

    System

System is not badly written. There is this cool status window and it looks nice. You can level skill by becoming more familiar with them. Also, there is little to none explenations from the system. Only the necessary things you get from side quest and quest are explained.

Quest are generally about clearing a floor. They vary from surviving to killing. The real power ups are generally side quests. You can get them complete while killing monsters and leveling up your skills. There are a lot more side quests. I think as of now they had better rewards, than the quests.

    Ovr
Overall the story is not bad, but I started hating the few characters. I also was prepared for a loner MC, reading the tags, but he is just socially awkward. The author doesn't know how to write human relationships. He just keeps repeating same thing over and over. Characters are too childlish and Mc being a wuss doesn't help.

I would not recommend it to people wanting to expolre a new world, wanting to impersonate the protagonist, as it would only anger them. You need to keep your distance, to really enjoy this read.

    Mid novel.

      Oh so a normal story?
Also having obstacles to overcome is usual good writing unless you are the type who enjoys watching
"Self insert" Isekai power fantasy anime
Then that's what most of the people in this place is for so i guess you do you.
Also having morals even tho he is social awkward is called good character progression
And man where is his powers shit
[spolier]he is here creating black holes and controlling kinetic energy making nukes from thermal energy and you here hung up on "DiSinTeGratIoN" like okay yeah boo hoo the MC doesn't get all the cool powers[/spoiler]

SI can suck, yeah. But I'm of the opinion that obstacles have to feel like obstacles: drama is not for everyone's tastes. A human MC is not wrong: emotions, mentality, etc — are part of the story. But I would avoid a story where the protagonist is dumb or/and a wimp. Letting an enemy live in a world of free for all bloodshed is a very big red flag for me.

Given my doubts, I have looked into the spoilers and read more comments. Impression: Good pass time, average read, MC goes from dumb to smart intermittently (red flag - shows the author's inability to progress the plot without tuning the knob on the MC's intelligence), enemy becomes friend plot — subpar execution — given the perceived dissatisfaction, bad "teammates"?/betrayal? — MC is forced to endure - until the kettle explodes — this kind of drama is not for me.

        Should I bother to read?
