It's very much in this author's style. A good, well-thought-out cultivation concept. Everything else... not so good. Although I would say this is one of the author's best works, if not the best. At least the love story here isn't completely contrived like in some of his other novels. It's not outstanding, but it's okay. For the most part, it's not even noticeable.
Towards the end, when the story with the demons is wrapped up, there's no tension and the novel becomes rather dull. The main character himself is cautious, and everyone else around him still has avatars, and they themselves are hiding safely, so his life is basically in no danger.
Overall, the story is solid, but just solid. It doesn't inspire excitement, or a desire for a sequel or anything like that. The main character doesn't feel cool—he's just reasonable—there are no young masters or slaps in the face, and, as I said, the love story is a bit lacking.
I'd say this is a novel about cultivation as it might actually be, not in a world where everyone is stupid, but that makes it a bit bland.
Incidentally, the rating on the website is exactly what I would give the book myself.
